the maps (environment) is the main thing about rage, thats what the megatexture thing was all about, and it delivers, displacement mapping is now useless because of what rage has done.

The man is shit, sure he did wonders with doom and quake, even doom 3 but rage? its shit, not even carmack can pull wonders out of dated consoles, i blame idiotic noobs not being able to see how blurry the fucking game is.
He reminds me of Lester Chaykin from 'Out of This World'. Rage seems to combine gameplay elements from STALKER, the more recent Fallout games, and Borderlands. No longer confined to corridors. Wide open spaces. Just the right amount of RPG elements (without detracting from the FPS experience as RPS games tend to do). Open-world free-range exporation. And vehicles. This game is going to rock hard.
@Xerxes1688 I'm sure ID isn't going to go as low as other companies in the years. Hell they're working intel to get 60 FPS in Rage on Sandy Bridge IGPs. John Carmack said that for Doom 4 they're going all out on PC and showing ID tech 5 at its max.
@Xenoforge78 Yeah John said that for Doom 4 they won't let consoles hold back the PC they are going to sacrifice the 60 FPS on consoles they achieved for better visuals and more AIs. Since they want to have like 30 AIs on screen. They will focus a lot more on the perks of PC since John said that todays PC are 10x more powerful then consoles and wants to show ID tech 5 to its full potential. Ayway I'm looking forward to both. @Xerxes1688 ID Tech games have always been well optimized and not crazy demanding. Sandy Bridge IGP won't be like being able to play at 1080p with 4xMSAA and other stuff mean't for high end gpus but for just being able to get near max settings. He also said that he's working with Nvidia to optimize it for the most high end GPUs. I'm not sure about AMD but I'm sure they haven't forgotten them.
@Daxter609 Well, DooM 3 back then was quite demanding, and characters, for example, didn't look that good, sure, great textures and shader effects, but there were quite rough around the edge, as if they were hastily carved from stone, no round shapes at all, even the maps looked faceted. And physics weren't that great either. Earlier games like Max Payne 2 showcased better physics and ragdoll effects than DooM 3, and even with partially destructible envirments.

Why is it that no matter how advanced graphics become getting hit by bullets still looks like an explosion of red paint? Essentially this technique has been used since the 90's. The player model is not physically affected by bullets merely becomes spattered with red.
Picture perfect graphics are fine and dandy but getting immersed into the game
relies on the little details. When these small things do not match the quality of the rest of the game your left feeling disappointed.
@Nervejunction I agree, several things that would immerse me more than better graphics in games such as Half-Life (hopefully this will be in ep3?) would be something along the line of reaching out a hand and opening the door knob, or when you lift stuff seeing your hands on it.

@Nervejunction the major limitation currently with video games is the power of processors due to the bottleneck theory. it would take A LOT of mathematical calculations to determine the place of impact on a person's body and how the wound would look according to the angle, how close the person was to the gun shot, what sort of gun was used. theoretically they could do this, but i don't think the technology is there, or if it is, its not available at a commercial price point.

It definitely felt like when I was playing doom or quake there was a balance...everything worked.

Rage looks incredible and is incredible according to most people who has tested it at E3 2010, and it is a incredible consept. Im glad they are not rushing it to make sequels.

My only gripe are that is a multiplatform title, although we can be sure that the PC version it won't be a port made hastily and with poor dedication.

Rage looks incredible and is incredible according to most people who has tested it at E3 2010, and it is a incredible consept. Im glad they are not rushing it to make sequels.
RelaX Quake, and ( IMO more importanlty) Doom will return when they are done with Rage. I think he said that Doom is first on his list of projects after Rage.
Like "Id tech 5 and megatextures would make an awesome Doom experience".

when i first heard of rage a while back (probly e3) i wasnt interested, but ive found out more about it and now i think it has alot of potential to be a great game.
ill be keeping an eye on this and hope they dont do anything stupid like borderlands art style.
