I support reform. But not this kind. Government should stay out of providing it. I would suggest that they just pass laws specifying when you can or cant drop coverage, and that you cant check for preexisting conditions, and maybe add in something promoting healthy behavior. The big problem is the unhealthy people get pushed into medicare/aid and up the burden to the gov, which isnt good managing such things.

The 2 problems with health care in the US are access and cost. This bill deals with access. Considering how hard it was to get a 2000 page bill passed...it's logical to assume a larger bill that dealt with both access & cost would have been impossible to pass.
Cost (by necessity) will have to be dealt with in the future (hopefully the near future). But, half of the job is now done.
It will not be pretty overhauling our increasing more dysfunctional health care system...but it is necessary.

Get rid of the insurance companies and medical cost would go down by +50%. It doesn't make sense to shell out 1000 a month for the family when you can put that money in the bank. The cost without the insurance staff that the hospital has to have and other mark ups would dramatically reduce the cost. Plus we don't need all those prescriptions. They make you take them because it's a cash cow. If a doctor tried to give me drugs I would tell him to fuck off unless it was for short term pain.

We have one of the biggest taxe bills in the world if not the biggest. but because we do that we don't need to pay school, health care and so on. the ones that needs one thing pays his share and the ones that needs something else pays his share. by doing so we reduce the amount of money each person would have had to pay because we all pay our own small share. i hope and think that america will one day realise that this is a good thing.

Government underestimates the cost of everything it does. From health care to defense appropriations, it's always more expensive because government officials are spending someone else's money. If it were really their money they're spending, things might not be so dramatically underestimated. Indeed, they'd go out of their way to find cheaper alternatives and get greater value for their dollars, just like any other consumer would.

Hawaii Is a basket case right now. They have furlowed most of the government workers including Teachers. This means that there is no school on Friday. They also are planing on shutting down all the Social services offices in all the Islands but the capital.
Hawaii and Denmark have extremely low populations. Denmark, like the rest Europe, doesn't worry about military defense thanks to America. Hawaii is massively subsidized along with high taxes. Hawaii also has a healthy population in comparison with the rest of the USA.

The 2 problems with health care in the US are access and cost. This bill deals with access. Considering how hard it was to get a 2000 page bill passed...it's logical to assume a larger bill that dealt with both access & cost would have been impossible to pass.
Cost (by necessity) will have to be dealt with in the future (hopefully the near future). But, half of the job is now done.
It will not be pretty overhauling our increasing more dysfunctional health care system...but it is necessary.

Get rid of the insurance companies and medical cost would go down by +50%. It doesn't make sense to shell out 1000 a month for the family when you can put that money in the bank. The cost without the insurance staff that the hospital has to have and other mark ups would dramatically reduce the cost. Plus we don't need all those prescriptions. They make you take them because it's a cash cow. If a doctor tried to give me drugs I would tell him to fuck off unless it was for short term pain.

Medicare ended up costing billions and billions more than they originally said it was going to cost, too. Government underestimates the cost of everything it does. From health care to defense appropriations, it's always more expensive because government officials are spending someone else's money. If it were really their money they're spending, things might not be so dramatically underestimated. Indeed, they'd go out of their way to find cheaper alternatives and get greater value for their dollars, just like any other consumer would.

Hawaii Is a basket case right now. They have furlowed most of the government workers including Teachers. This means that there is no school on Friday. They also are planing on shutting down all the Social services offices in all the Islands but the capital.

Hawaii and Denmark have extremely low populations. Denmark, like the rest Europe, doesn't worry about military defense thanks to America. Hawaii is massively subsidized along with high taxes. Hawaii also has a healthy population in comparison with the rest of the USA.

@Teikiatsu, I agree. I'd like to add that some countries such as Sweden hand illegal immigrants a bill, when they use the medical syatem. They are not allowed to have "free" healthcare like the citizens. Japan doesn't allow immigration. With zero immigrants, they are still having trouble fiscally sustaining their healthcare system.

Massachusetts is a good example of how socialized healthcare doesn't work....funny how Mitt Romney is the governor there, yet he doesn't support the bill that just past- what a tool.
Whenever I debate someone over healthcare they often point to Hawaii and Denmark as example's of good socialized healthcare systems. Does anyone know of a good counter for that? I know nothing about Hawaii, or Denmark.

@driax15m, Here is something to chew on: I think the Government should revisit Food Stamps. Why should the TAXPAYER be forced into buying someone else's junk food and then be forced to pay for the resulting physical ailments? I think Food Stamps should NOT pay for sugary or salty snacks!

Its more that what gov is doing--has been doing for years that may be CONTRIBUTING to the problem. Taking $100s of millions from trial lawyers to prevent tort reform. And install a former trial lawyer in the HHS under obama, I understand? No allowance for insurers to operate over state lines? It should not take 2000+ pages to allow people to take insurance to new job!
And it should not require mandates!
