  • no edge custom shop explorer ??? its about time

  • I work very near U2's studio here in dublin and I have had the honour to have spoken to Dallas a few times over the years. He has always answered my questions about guitar stuff with such grace and kindness. A wonderful gentleman.

  • @MrMalq Couldnt agree more, just met him for the first time a week ago in LA airport. he was very gracious, chatted with me for 10 mins, just a super nice, softly spoken guy from Kentucky. i was very impressed, he and Edge are fortunate to have found each other.

  • I hope they pay him ALOT OF MONEY !!!!

  • @mamothcar1 pay me in gum

  • sorry dude i am a tech as well....................rule one NEVER PLAY THE BANDS TUNES or anybody he's putting on the show to get after pussy trust me.....this guys a tool

  • @fasteddie925 figures, and he's from my town, where everybody is a fuckin tool,......assholes......so basically this guy's showin his ass

  • DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE HOW MANY TECHS ARE RIDING THE STAGE LEG MANUALY HANDLING THE LIGHTS? AWESOME....

  • @MrManosv what dumbasses, if you fall off and break ur neck

  • Comment removed

  • nice one

  • IMO some songs the Edge plays on a Strat sound even better on the Explorer, for example Pride I think sounds really cool 2:25

  • That's simply a U2 introduction medley.

  • iTS A F... SOUNDCHECK.i BET MOST OF YOU DONT EVEN KNOW A GUITAR HAS SIX STRINGS-

  • Ridiculous. There is no way he should be there soundchecking when the audience is there. Looks like a glory hunter to me, especially playing Edge's riffs, you can hear them. And that guitar is iconic, nobody should be seeing that until they are playing.

  • @thrillergriller Did you not even read the author of the videos' comments?

  • @viperdude281 Yes, and you are spot on there. The point I was trying to really say is that I dont think that particular guitar should be seen before they start, irrespective of the sound only being audible to a small number of people. His Explorer is almost as famous as Edge.

  • Kinda takes the "edge" off the Edge's renown as a guitarist. Endless effects-driven repeating riffs, pretty much an auto-pilot sort of thing. Play a note, run it through an overwrought effects board, and voila! you're a famous guitarist! Might as well save a little cash & just let Mr. Schoo play the concert.

  • anyone can sound good with echo and reverb....

  • @grade2sjcsa No... it means when you make one mistake, it sounds like five!

  • @grade2sjcsa oh yeah? then why dont you go on stage and take over edge, see how good you sound. either that or go compose a song with echo and reverb and see how many ppl actually like it

  • anyone hating this video needs to post a video response or stfu.

    easy.

  • This guy rules!!!

  • just busting "dallas'" balls..... hes really very good !!!

  • looks like JEFF SUMMERS from the band WEAPON !! Jeff just plays better....

  • sounds like shit. Just proves how good edge really is. U2 FTW.

  • He is fucken awesome.

  • I wonder if the spot light guys ever have to take a piss in the middle of the show, perched up there, the guy on the bottom says "just go man" ohhh "warm"

  • If edge ever got sick this guy could step right in

  • believe me, ive got a few of these same vintage rack f/x, and when i think of how temperamental they are in my sheltered temperature controlled basement, i can only begin to imagine how they get when being tossed and dragged all over the world in wet, hot, cold, dry conditions. id have a guy make a quick run through the "gig" presets as well. and the hundreds of patch cable, midi, power - just one comes out and nothing works. for this level of show, of course they cross the t's and dot the i's!!

  • I am a guitar technician and Dallas Schoo and Jack White's tech Jim Vincent are my idols. For those of you who talk down on a tech, go play Rock Band and claim you play guitar. Sometimes a tech's job is more difficult than that of the performer's

  • amazing and interesting, very good recording ! thx a lot

  • can someone tell from which song is the siren sound on 1:27 and which effect does edge use to achieve it?

  • @tomiclav Is for "Vertigo" if you want look for "Vertigo" at the Rose Bowl :)

  • @tomiclav youtube-> vertigo siren tutorial

  • What song is at 1.53 minutes?

  • That guitar is so awesome

  • You're crazy for writing negative comments about this guy. The Edge has a different sound, amp, and guitar for just about every song. All he's doing is going through them, to make sure the delay, echo, reverb and the like are all preset perfectly. You know, it is his job. It's not like he's a tech for Green Day or something. He earns every penny he makes. Hardest working guitar tech out there.

  • 6 feet = 1.82 meters so no wondering it sound so loud. btw nice video like it

  • it is funny that this was in 2009 and i just went to the 360* show on thursday in philly...AWESOME

  • clearly dallas is good but its about who writes the song/parts originality...edge is a very good song writer..

  • @mixmastermonte dude do you relise how much precise the fx that the edge uses are precise for every single song he plays and sometimes more than one per song and that the guitar tech need to chek them all and also it's this guy who creates these fx you here so fuck he gots tallent

  • @godkilla995 I would'nt fancy that sort of responsibilty, Imagine a huge mishap in front of that sort of crowd and waiting for the band to come off stage, i reckon Bono would really tear into you.

  • are those lighting guys on the pillars at the back?

  • people: don't forget that the edge uses multiple amps with multiple effects in multiple loops. How are you gonna know if everything is working without trying. its not as if he is switching presets on a g-major or something. did you know that the edge uses the exact same guitar/effects/amp combination live as was used in the studio? fucked...

  • check out it might get loud edg gets confused in a scene and dallas comes in and sets him up so edge can show some riffs

  • Comment removed

  • I suppose if the edge ever fell ill, Dallas could fill in for him... Awesome guitarists.

  • @mixmastermonte it may be buried away in my comment somewhere, but only the first few rows under the claw can hear him, as the sound is not coming out the main sound system but the monitor speakers in front of him... anyway, he did play the whole set and very very badly like you expertly gathered... i just didn't have time to film it... you see, i have very little time for idiots. i can only stand about 5 minutes of them then i just give up and walk aw.....

  • @speed294 not to mention Dallas probably know Edge's rig bettter than he does haha, he's got a great job

  • @speed294 the whole fuckin 'claw' tour is a joke, wtf is this band going to do next, shit, they've run outta shit to do, (long past) if you cant see the fuckin stage, what's the point, im gonna go to some fuckin event, pay some ridiculous fuckin price, only to sit where i have to break my fuckin neck to look up at some stupid screen, what a fuckin joke..........

  • @speed294 idiots i can tell right away - cause its most people, usually cool people say something nice or intelligent, but idiots act and spout off at the mouth, shit, what does a dictionary say an idiot is - a human being in form, but destitute of reason, or the ordinary intellectual powers of man.

  • @mixmastermonte Schoo is definitely not an egomaniac.

With that said, while the entire audience can't hear it here, I've seen arena shows where you can hear it from outside the pit. Keep in mind, however, that just cause he plays a riff doesn't mean the song will be played.

  • @mixmastermonte

This is Dallas Schoo. He and Edge are good friends, he has worked for him for many years, and he knows more about Edge's presets than Edge does. I'm pretty sure he's not just showing off. Edge is extremely appreciative of what Schooo does for him. Schoo is his life line. There is only one Edge, a creative genius. But Schoo is the man behind the magic. He's also a very accomplished guitarist; he's just going through the presets here; he's also a very nice person.

  • @moselyliver FINALY someone who's not an idiot.

  • @mixmastermonte It's a quick sound check right before the show. He doesn't need to play the whole thing. Obviously they've done a whole dress rehearsal and stuff before the day of the show, but it's still good to make sure things are working properly. He's making it quick too, so yes it would be kind of crappy. And speed294 already said that only the people near the stage can hear him!

  • @mixmastermonte CUNT

  • @mixmastermonte Dallas Schoo is a fine tech, the audience wont have heard it this loud.

  • @mixmastermonte

clearly not - he's been the edge's tech for almost the whole of the edge's career - if the edge didnt want him im sure he would fire him who cares if he cant play - hes there to check the gear

  • @mixmastermonte why dont you have his job then??

  • @mixmastermonte He doesn't SUCK as you say hes the guitar tech for one of the worlds most popular and widely respected guitarists. I build guitars im 17 and Im not the best at all , Just because you fix and build and help with guitars doesn't mean you can play amazingly.

  • @mixmastermonte oeh, someone is jealous. bet you can't play this.

  • @mixmastermonte The funny thing is, I bet he's 10x better than you are at guitar. And I'm pretty sure if he was a "bad" guitar tech, The Edge wouldn't have kept him around for 20+ years. Just Saying.

  • @mixmastermonte haha, whoa buddy! so much anger. i kind of have to agree with your sentiment, though not your execution. meaning - yeah, i pretty much agree that he's doing the edge's riffs cos he knows people will cheer for it, thus diminishing even just a little bit of the excitement when U2 plays the actual song. that IS what you meant ... right??

  • @mixmastermonte figures, and he's from the asshole town i live, 'exist' in..........

  • @mixmastermonte Um, you DO realize that the sound in the stadium is different with thousands of people than it would be empty...right? I mean, come on. This man is a professional.

  • U2 plays by them selves right? They don't have anyone opening up for them? This sort of a line check would be pointless.. do it before doors, but I love seeing soundchecks :)

  • @snapascrew They do have opening acts and this sound check was done between the final opening act (Glas Vegas) and U2 coming on stage :)

  • @speed294 Wow i never thought they would still have bands opening for them i thought they just do what rush does and play by them selves!

  • i think that's a very fun job... :-D

  • Occasionally saw Dallas work throughout an entire concert @ Rice Eccles Stadium just a few days ago. Not only is he running sound checks and making sure all the effects are exactly on. He's constantly switching guitars and running them up to Edge on stage. Then racing back to the side of the stage and making sure everything's good to go for the next guitar. Edge uses a lot of different guitars! Dallas has his work cut out for him! Best/Hardest working guitar tech. I've ever seen!

  • @rcflybry at times he also works the peddles for Edge. On the Springsteen's Rising tour he was Steve Van Zandt's tech.

  • Everybody started going crazy when he started playing Streets.

  • @SiameseChemise Spammer!

  • @EaglesStir lol

  • Dallas Schoo has an AWESOME job

  • @ADROTDG If you look closely, there is one cable coming from the guitar, but there are 2 tips (1 plugged in, 1 dangling). The first one, which is plugged in, goes down the cord to his floor effects. The second cord leads to the little box attached to the back of his strap. This transmits a wireless signal, so if he needs to go farther than the cord will allow, he just pops out the cable, drops it, pops in the wireless, and goes wherever he pleases.

  • It's a guitarist thing that's why his cabel was hanging duh

  • Can sum1 explain why his cable was hanging??

  • does dallas have the best job in the world or what, beats being a chippie

  • u know where your standing, that's where i stood in the sydney one check out my vid from the show :)

  • well atleast if something happens to Edge they dont need to go far to find a replacement...haha

  • Check 02:28 if you want to see a Stuart&Dallas collision hahaha

  • when I went to 360 in Brisbane Dec 2010 and the backstage crew were testing everything the crowd went nuts because they were playing so damn well.

Dallas was handing out free guitar picks too :D

  • What is he paying 1:52 till 1:57 ?

  • best guitar tech in the biz

  • anyone know what he uses/does at 1:28 ?

  • i think is a very sustain with octave and short delay, the bend sounds like a LFO automatic parameters perhaps a whammy pedal, i´ll try this.

  • Almost the same effect of the intro on Lemon ZooTV

  • Attention: Dallas Shoo...your 4 minutes and 33 seconds of pseudo-fame are over; return to your job as glorified servant to Edge.

  • @ClitDoris dont hate. you wish that was you.

  • @torres619 Contrary to your IDIOTIC comment, I don't "hate" anyone. Rather, as regards my comments concerning Dallas Schoo, I've merely observed the obvious fact that he is but a glorified servant; a fact that should be obvious to anyone who isn't a SYCOPHANTIC DOPE like you!

  • @ClitDoris you can rather these nuts.

  • @torres619 Your persistent IDIOTIC comments strongly suggest that, rather than the using "torres619" as your user ID, you should instead use an ID that more accurately reflects your level of intelligence. Therefore, from this point onward, you shall be known as TorreARSEHOLE!

  • @ClitDoris all this coming from someone that calls themselves clitoris. Your either a woman or gay, especially with that comment. wow.. lol

  • @torres619 Nothing that is entirely obvious escapes your notice, does is TorreARSEHOLE? Yes, it is quite obvious that my user ID is ClitDoris and, yes, it's also quite obvious that I am a woman. However, it is also quite obvious that you are a FAG who has entirely too much time on his hands and whole-lotta-NOTHING in between his ears!

  • @ClitDoris lol. your a woman. your opinions don't matter.

  • @torres619 Just wondering, TorreARSEHOLE... were you perhaps dropped on your head when you were an infant? Or are you just a natural-born MORON?

  • @ClitDoris your underwear probably looks like hot wing paper.

  • @torres619 I haven't a clue what you wrote in your most recent comment, as I didn't bother to read it. But don't worry, you've my permission to continue to waste your time writing and posting even more of your MINDLESS, HIDEOUSLY IDIOTIC comments that I will never bother to read!

  • @ClitDoris Moron, The Edge couldn't function without him. He built the damned rig and knows it better than the Edge does...

  • @BrianMorrison71Dallas Schoo is a guitar-tech whose job merely consist of the following: 1) tuning the various guitars used by Edge, 2) installing guitar effects (that have either been purchased by Edge or have been given to him by various effects manufacturers), and 3) humping (pushing) the equipment used by Edge. Apart from that, and very contrary to your IDIOTIC, IGNORANT FANTASIES, Dallas is NOT- and will not ever become - a designer of guitar effects or anything else. Got that, IMBECILE?

  • @ClitDoris purely part of the job, when one has that much on the line, there is no way a simple dun-dum daaaaaaa cohrd thing would assure that all the delays are set right and so forth. Edge probably INSISTS that this happen before every show so that he knows he is going to sound EXACTLY right and that nothing is going to fuck up in front of 80000 people.

  • @smackythefrog23 Exactly. I agree that Edge insists on it, but I think he probably doesn't have to even ask Dallas b/c Dallas is so on top of every last detail.

  • @smackythefrog23 Since you assume that Dallas Schoo's hideous attempts to draw attention to himself (whilst he fantasizes that he's a "rock star'") may actually be "purely part of [his] job," you'd do well to learn that those, like yourself, who are in the habit of making assumptions succeed only in making a total ASS of themselves!

  • @ClitDoris i wont even dignify that with a response.

  • @ClitDoris Everyone's entitled to their own opinion... but you are seriously overreacting.

  • @ClitDoris dallas is a real humble guy from what ive seen on youtube, interview wise, must be a buzz playing on stage like that but ultimately its his job and if he doesnt check the rig theyll find some one else who will! any musician is a bit of a "show off" to variying degrees , but i dont think dallas isa bad example of this , i however freely admit that if i was up , id be there MILKING it!!

  • @ClitDoris Do you crucify everyone who is doing there job, or are you selective? If there is one thing I don't get about Youtube nutters, they look at something they don't like, then instead of just moving on, they turn the comments page into a pointless killing field. I don't get it, do you do this because your life is so pathetic? Here's a tip, although its probably wasted on someone who already admits to being a c**t, when browsing U-tube, if after 5 seconds, you don't like it- keep going.

  • @TheFlipper181160 The only sensible observation that one can make about your comments is that what you lack in intelligence you more than make up with ASStounding STUPIDITY!

  • @ClitDoris DICK!

  • @ClitDoris he has an amazing job though, im sure he gets paid very well, he gets to travel the world with U2, and play guitar and set up gear all the time. i wouldnt mind being a glorified servant haha

  • @cachetband as long as i got to fuck groupie chicks............although U2 groupie chicks are probably a joke lol

  • @ClitDoris Wow, how clueless are you?

  • dude thanx for posting..

i am glad someone else knows who dallas is..

    right ion bro

  • @PRIESTWORLD whats funny is that dallas was going through the entire set list. since the sounds and guitars are different for every song he was going though all the sounds for the show. spoiler alert! hahahaha

  • Wait a minute. We didn't hear any of this in the inner circle. Im sure Dallas had it all in ear. So why has he got the speakers on here?

  • The Edge's Gibson Explorer is just the most awesome guitar on the planet.

  • edge and dallas watch this video: dallas: "look see, just one guitar, same sounds, do i really have to string 22 guitars a day? edge: er. ah. intervention. no! must have all! play! string! ahh!" dallas: hmm. my job is still the best one there is... oh well...

  • i guess all those fans are like ''thanks dallas! see ya!'', and the edge came out to an empty venue...

  • i got the black version of his guitar! nice one!

  • dallas is king too...

  • hummm....so god forbid if anything ever happened to The Edge......this guy would be a Shoo-in?

  • i love this guy cant believe ive only just discovered him!

  • I would give my left nut to be able to play through The Edge's rig.

  • what's he playing from 1:25 til 1:31

  • @MichaelD8393

It's an intro to the 360 version of Vertigo...

Do a search on the U2 360 DVD version of Vertigo, I can't seem to post links :(

  • @speed294 alright thanks.

  • @speed294 do you know if hes using a pedal?

  • @MichaelD8393 mysterious ways start still havnt found @ 21sec unknown caller @ 36sec unknown caller solo 49sec unfor fire 55sec city of blinding lights 1:08sec vertigo 1:29sec crazy tonight 1:53sec sunday b sunday 2:08sec pride 2:25sec walk on 2:43sec streets 2:53sec one 3:09sec ultraviolet 3:37sec with or without u 3:55sec moment of surrender 4:12sec hope that helps BB ;-)
  • @bbbruce5 it does thanks.

  • I think Bill Bailey was right ;-)

  • i was there, top concert and dallas does him proud every gig , top man

  • No one dislikes this video!!

  • @coolkid2446 "No one dislikes this video!!"

They do now. A 4th rate guitarist checking the rig of a 5th rate guitarist. There's 4 wasted minutes of my life... and yours, only I'm smart enough to know it.

  • @gmdinformation just passing through, but wanted to leave this behind -- no one gives a rat's ass about your opinion, and you should be smart enough to know it.

  • @mfmazurek just passing through, but wanted to leave this behind -- no one gives a rat's ass about your opinion, and you should be smart enough to know it.

  • Your'e all wrong! The dream job is not Schoo's. My dream job is actually Edge's job! haha

  • @miguelunch3 Hahahaha you'll never get it you f'ing idiot

  • I'm not saying I will. I'm just saying it's a better job

  • I am so jealous of Dallas right now

  • OH MY GOD, the preset for Pride sounds like the studio version with the Explorer!

  • I saw you in Hannover. When the Edge is ill you can take it over from hem

    You'r the best

  • This man has my dream job!

  • I'm just going to say this, my point to all of you is the same as what i said to K10006, using copious amounts of effects and delays doesn't make you a guitarist OR a musician! It makes you a SOUND ENGINEER! If i went out and bought a new delay/effects unit does that make me a better "musician"?

Watch BILL BAILEY, U2 TECHNICAL FAILURE and you'll understand what i mean, COMPRENDÉ!?

I look forward to all your bitching, not that i'll read it :oD

  • What a catalogue! Good grief, song after song of recognizable riffs & vastly distinctive guitar sounds. Wonderful. Not sure how some comments could say anything otherwise. This guy is intentionally NOT a stunt guitarist. He's a soundsmith, innovator and his sound is extremely recognizable.

  • @musicfunkydude ...so, to clarify, the sound he is making is coming out from the monitors on the stage, not the stadium speakers... so only those in the inner circle can hear him... secondly, he has to play those licks, becaus ehe has to get the effects right... no point playing "Oh My Darling Clementine"... it's what Edge pays him to do and Dallas does it very well... Edge isn't gonna do it all himself when he can pay someone else to do it for him.

  • @speed294 Good on you Speed294, that shut him up :)

  • @speed294 plus it kinds ruins it for the crowd if the edge actually came out before the concert started and played his licks

  • @speed294 exactly. However, there are some guitarists, who would fire a technician for DARING to play a single lick of the "artists" music. (cough EVH). Some guitarists insist on the roadie simply playing 3 or four chords as they run through the presets, but nothing that would resemble a some.

  • @musicfunkydude lol :) dont comment things you know nothing about ;) he MUST check all the presets for show if they are correct for each part of song.. thats the reason he play these licks.. he play it different and in speed.. just for check if it sounds right way.. so how did you say that? SHUT The fuck up and stop murdering his great work ;)))

  • @musicfunkydude..... What would happen is Dallas Schoo did edges sound check playing something that he makes up on the spot...Then Lights come edge gets his guitar and play the song and rilizes that it donsent sound how its suposed to... Well, seince he was playing something totaly diffrent he couldent here if it sounded right....... Commen seince

  • @musicfunkydude The Edge couldn't survive with out this guy.

  • What an interesting thing he does at 1:28, the intro for Vertigo

  • What an interesting thing he does at 1:28 : the intro for Vertigo
