Its definitely Not steel. I own 2 of these bikes. These bikes were ahead of their time. Look at other bikes around the same year as this.. 97-2001. These bikes had GREAT handling, and still ride better than a lot of XC bikes out there today

i was under the impression that specialized rockhoppers was hardtail only by design,unless theres some mods to this bike im un sure to beleive its the latter,still V NICE peice of kit dude
