Aron did nt we have this discussion on the mentor line at assurant lol I believe in God cuz I died kinda hard to dis believe when you have seen the other side .....Aron I thought you were better than this God excists and religion sucks but I love Jesus not religion
The old testament is not done away with. Those laws still stand. There just n/a in todays culture. I dont have a farm, we dont have slaves, we arent living in Theocratic Israel. So these laws dont really apply to us. In soccer it is forbidden to carry the ball in your hands, but if im not playing soccer that rule dose not apply to me. Dose that mean the laws of soccer are done away with? No. Its not n/a to people not playing soccer.
@ScholarVisual But if you want you can still play soccer, then the rules would apply and nobody would have anything to complain about. Do you actually listen to yourself when you say slavery is like "playing soccer"?
@sorawadokokara But that Theocratic state of Isreal is gone. The laws still stand but that lifestyle is gone. Like I said previously, how can I follow the law pertaining to agriculture when i dont have a farm. Its like if the sport of soccer ceased to exist. The laws still stand if somebody revitalized the sport. If somebody revitalized the theocratic state of Israel then these laws would be followed. But that hasnt happened
@ScholarVisual Do you mean it? If the theocratic state of Israel was revitalized you'd be fine with them having slaves because their laws allow that? Please don't answer nobody is going to do that because you'd be missing the point.
@sorawadokokara If we lived in a culture that had slaves they should follow these rules. But there is nothing that commands you to get slaves. These laws were provided to help regulate these people's lifestyle. God often times provides rules for things he dosnt necessarily agree with. Like divorce. He hates divorce, but he provides laws on how to handle it. God wants a man to be with one woman, but he has laws regulating polygamy.
@ScholarVisual First of all, no they shouldn't. They should revolt and get their freedom. Second, I'd love to know why you think you speak for god. Did he/she/it/they come down and tell you what is liked and disliked by this (these) beings? Let's be honest here. Your just asserting that these thinks are true but without evidence to support your assertions you might as well just say that your actually a plant instead of an animal for all the information it gives us.
@ADADEL1 Well im not asserting anything. Even if you want to look at the God of the bible as a mythical character the mythical character said "For I hate divorce!" says the LORD, the God of Israel" and he also said "An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife". This character dose not agree with polygamy or divorce but he has made laws regulating them. Because these were apart of the culture of that time.
@ScholarVisual Well the divorce part is easy. You must be using a King James version. The NIV says "The man who hates and divorces his wife,” says the LORD, the God of Israel, “does violence to the one he should protect,”[a] says the LORD Almighty." Malachi 2:16. The bible is not written well and differences between two multiple translations shows this. Also, you are asserting that the bible accurately shows what god agrees with.
@ADADEL1 i would say to find the oldest version of the bible, possibly the king james or even an older version if you can. i don't really trust the NIV, they try to make it so a 4th grader can understand it, and don't use the right words that they should...(i don't believe in the bible, i'm just saying
This video made me wonder : If Christians believe that the sole reason for not stoning gays, owning slave, killing people who don't believe like you etc is Jesus and the new testament, will it me morally understandable for them if the Jews enforced those laws ? What if the "Gentile slaves"were the Christians ?
Eternal punishment for finite crimes was a common theme in Jewish religious dialogue of the day (and before), largely because of Zoroastrian influence; it turns up in the Talmud, and they HATE the "warlock" Jesus.
My christian friends argues when it comes to the old testament, that everything in it is true and counts, except for the things Jesus came and told was otherwise in the new testament.
I'm curious to know what the community here think I should answer in response to that. I really want to despute the argument but turns out... I'm not very good at arguing, mostly due to my lag of knowlegde about the bible as whole.
@BalleBaest Having been a member of a sect of Messianic Judahism, I think I can help. One argument you can make is- Why would a god who says over and over in the OT that his laws are forever and go so far as to kill people for disobeying them and then turn around and forget them 2000 years later? The best advice I can give you is to read the Bible, I know, I know, but it really is the only way. Do it front to back not jumpy like the Christians tell you. You get a better understanding that way.
@atheistphilosopher Cheers, thank you for taking the time to answer my question :)
And I guess you're right, but I just find the bible, both testaments, to be too much bullshit to take. That's why I've found it so hard to just sit down and read it.
@BalleBaest I'll second his remark. I encouraged any atheist to read the bible and study it. The only way you can achieve debating is to use their own words against them. With of course logic and reason, and of course scientific facts. If you start debating without this knowledge you'll end up sounding ignorant and most importantly they'll think you "just hate god and that's why you're an atheist".

Hi guys, I'm Emiliano from Argentina (atheist). I have look almost every youtube video of the show, keep it going... I think in some cases religious callers actually come to see the absurd of their belief.
Here in my country most of the population is catholic, although they don't really practice it nor bother to look deep into their own set of beliefs... but like most of them, they are really stubborn and put on a pretty good fight in words against atheism with no real good argument..
Respond to this video... Penn Jillette once said "The fastest way to become Atheist is to actually read the bible" This may not be ver batum, but it is very close.
@TheBiAtheist They don't read it because they know their little dream would come to an end. The best way to become an athiest is to read the bible. I have never come across a christian who has actually read the bible.
George Carlin put it best when he said regarding the American Dream: "The owners of this country know the truth, its called the American Dream cause you have to be asleep to believe it"
Most christians would rather stay asleep than read the bible.
@TheBiAtheist it's true, i told one of my friends(who believes in the bible) to go to (evil bible dot com) and i was telling him about stuff that's in the bible, and he wouldn't believe me,even when i told him some of the passages that actually say this, he just kept denying it.
There's an anonymous one-question poll going on right now about whether the words "under God" should be in the Pledge of Allegiance. If you want to put in your two cents, you can click the link, then scroll down. It's on the right-hand side of the page. There are only about 300 responses so far, so your vote counts. The link is in the comments section of my channel page.
39 ¶ And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be waxen poor, and be sold unto thee; thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant:
40 but as a hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with thee, and shall serve thee unto the year of jubilee:
41 and then shall he depart from thee, both he and his children with him, and shall return unto his own family, and unto the possession of his fathers shall he return.
fine. now, how do you think the bible defined/conceived of "thy brother that dwelleth by thee?" it means your social peer or even your actual relative, no? because you can see the quote yourself allowing BUYING at least some fellow Israelites for 6 years and foreigners for life, and the chattel/property not Matt cites.
thats Levi you are looking for. However, the part you did not catch is these are only heathens who are bondmen or bond maids. If you actually took a moment to read further back it states the following..
So, are you saying that it is A-O-K to have heathens, ie non-Israelites as bondmen/women? 1. God chose Abraham/Israel totally arbitrarily and made a hereditary "I love you more" deal. if you believe that youre as dumb as everyone 3000 years ago 2. God did not give the heathens the equal benefit of revelation 3. heathens dont have human rights? 4. how bout Africans who believed in animism or Islam whe the Portuguese showed up? Your argument is totally immoral
45 Moreover, of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession.
46 And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigor
44 Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.
you foul people! You just twisted the bible to suit your needs! I wish you all the luck in the world you will need it. You don't understand the bible and don't care to. I will pray for you all and hope someday you get it! God Bless
@2ravenf0x2 Of course. This is the typical response when the Bible gets exposed for the immoral crap that it is. If your God cant write a book that is perfectly clear to everyone so that no one "misinterprets" his message, then he is a piss poor communicator and impotent.
good thing i now know i'm prohibited from boiling a baby goat in its mother's milk. i was totally gonna do that tonight. glad we got that straightened out.
Premise, I'm an atheists but I think AronRa is wrong though. Christians don't break the first commandment by following Jesus... Christians believe that Jesus is god in flesh form. Jesus of the trinity which Jesus, God and the holy spirit.
@lestliness That's common belief, but god and jesus talk to each other in the bible, and jesus keeps talking about god in third person throughout his sermons.
@lejzer1 Ad Hominem's aside, his youtube name is AronRa. He is a Ph.D student in Austin. (Yeah, oops for you.) Now as for your statement about how you "cant believe this morons"; I believe you and I am not surprised at all.
I AM AN ATHEIST. With that said, couldn’t aron’s point that was made at about 5:04, about how Jesus violates the first commandment be countered with the trinity doctrine?
ill have to correct you guys about the concepts of hell and final judgement, it actually appears pre new testement, at least in the book of ezra where god describes the judgement he will inflict, when ezrah asks, why the jews must suffer and why their enemiies i.e the romans, persians greeks and babylonians have done so wellto which god replies essentially 'theyre having fun NOW, but theyll pay later when my judgement comes.
still sounds abit of a copout, but there ya go jesus didnt start it
I love, almost at the end, how Matt pick the 'book' while AronRa like he's thinking 'here we go'. The best way to debat with theist is to use their own 'book'.
@LetJimiT8keOver Well, I have my own opinion on what the bible is and what it actually refers to and so on, but I have no desire to attract haters at this point so I won't post about it here. All I can say is to each his/her own.
@JoeMC7 I don't think you realize the slippery slope this opens by suggesting there is any truth in the bible but it's left to being up to "to each his own".
The bible says that under slavery if you have _Jewish_ slaves, you have to treat them right but if they're not Jewish, well if you kill them or beat them and treat them abhorrently, there's nothing wrong with that.
@Freethinker12341 While I don't know you, I would say that without an objective standard of morality, it is unsurprising that such a distasteful joke would come from an atheist...but, I did walk into that one...
Putting this guy against William Lane Craig would be like asking Chong to discuss the theory of relativity with Einstein.
@mwininge an objective standard of morality is a barbaric, bigoted philosophical positon. not only are you assuming that a god exists. you're saying it doesn't matter if i chose to not believe i'm still wrong because i'm not taking it on faith. objective/absolute morality discourages independant thought, and it assumes that i should abide your standards for no apparent reason at all. how could you be so sure that there is a god to the extent that you're imposing your belief system on me...
@mwininge basicaly if i dont believe in your god then i get eternal punishment, it doesn't matter how good i behave, it doesnt matter if i THINK that jesus is god, i have to believe it wether i like it or not. sounds like dictatorship to me. i say extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, so before you judge me for not abiding by your criteria for respect and your standard of morality you better be absolutely sure that theres a god, you also have to show thats your god is the rite one
I don't understand how theists overcome the cognitive dissonance.
1. God is perfect, good, just et cetera
2. The bible is the true word of god
3. The bible contains evil acts and instructions
How can they hold those beliefs simultaneously? I believe if a theist is honest, they'll admit that they DON'T and that they justify changing or ignoring one of the three beliefs in some way.
@captain150 Furthermore - ""god" is supposedly perfect. A perfect being could not make something imperfect except by intention. "god" made man "perfect in his image". Man later turned out to be imperfect. So either god is imperfect or deliberately made us imperfect then punished us for being imperfect.
@captain150 I don't understand how Atheists pretend to argue the existence of ANY god but they always end up arguing against the Judeo-Christian god Yaweh and against the Bible. hahaha.
@mwininge Because theists most often try to claim that yaweh is the god that exists. I've personally never had anyone claim that zeus exists, so why would I argue about it?
@mwininge Probably because we live in a predominently christian nation so those beliefs tend to affect us more and we will run into more christians than muslims, hindu or what have you.
How could we possibly have true morality and ethics without following to the letter a book written 2000 years ago by a bunch of desert dwelling nomads? To boot its a book that has been reinterpreted and translated hundreds of times by different groups of biased scribes. Matt must be insane to not realize that this is the most important book in the world!
Most religions are just sick... Christianity has its incest, child killing, and slavery and so on... the Quran has Allah the pedophile, kill everyone if they don't worship Allah, and so on.
Why can't people realise these books are just ancient scribblings by primitive people who had the intellect of a 5 year old of today?
@superduperjew I guess it's easier to live with the mentality of orderly error than that of complex truth. Religion after all is just a sedative for the irrational mind!
@zh1412 Ok. Will you help me distribute Bibles? Maybe The Atheist Experience will offer free Bibles on their website. What do you think? Should we ask them?
Christopher hitchens is turning to Islam after his throat cancer!Allah is slowly punishing him for not following Islamic religion! you see Allah is so powerful!
It's interesting that you're using proof from the bible to prove that religion is irrelevant. That's like talking about Lord of the Rings characters to show how they couldn't be real. You guys are the most religious atheists I have ever met. This is more like a book review.
@ptchjamie One way to show fallacy in any claim is by providing a counter-example or showing a self-contradiction. That's why they use the bible to show how wrong the bible is; the bible is a self-contradiction if it is to be taken as a book by which to live one's life. You are 100% correct; it is a book review to show that, like JRR Tolkien's works, the bible is a piece of fiction with some moral goods, but a lot of moral bad too.
@ptchjamie Are you serious? You honestly think people should debate about something without investigating it or using references from it? "Ok you can debate against my religion but you can't use my bible until you convert" What a poor fucking argument.
@TekLok I'm sorry that my comment confused you so badly. I was admonishing the hosts for arguing down at the level of the religious. Pointing out inconsistencies in an opponent's argument is a valid tactic, but in this discussion, they refer to the bible as if it were a sacred text, which is contradictory.

@TheBiAtheist it's probably because people who actually read the bible become atheists.
Pirate44444 3 months ago
@Pirate44444 Unless they're too afraid of hell to question it like I was for most of my life.
TheBiAtheist 3 months ago
@TheBiAtheist They don't read it because they know their little dream would come to an end. The best way to become an athiest is to read the bible. I have never come across a christian who has actually read the bible.
George Carlin put it best when he said regarding the American Dream: "The owners of this country know the truth, its called the American Dream cause you have to be asleep to believe it"
Most christians would rather stay asleep than read the bible.

2ravenf0x2 7 months ago
@2ravenf0x2
fine. now, how do you think the bible defined/conceived of "thy brother that dwelleth by thee?" it means your social peer or even your actual relative, no? because you can see the quote yourself allowing BUYING at least some fellow Israelites for 6 years and foreigners for life, and the chattel/property not Matt cites.
Daniel0112358 7 months ago
thats Levi you are looking for. However, the part you did not catch is these are only heathens who are bondmen or bond maids. If you actually took a moment to read further back it states the following..
2ravenf0x2 7 months ago
@2ravenf0x2
Daniel0112358 7 months ago
45 Moreover, of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession.
46 And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigor
2ravenf0x2 7 months ago
44 Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.

you foul people! You just twisted the bible to suit your needs! I wish you all the luck in the world you will need it. You don't understand the bible and don't care to. I will pray for you all and hope someday you get it! God Bless
2ravenf0x2 7 months ago
@2ravenf0x2 Of course. This is the typical response when the Bible gets exposed for the immoral crap that it is. If your God cant write a book that is perfectly clear to everyone so that no one "misinterprets" his message, then he is a piss poor communicator and impotent.

Premise, I'm an atheists but I think AronRa is wrong though. Christians don't break the first commandment by following Jesus... Christians believe that Jesus is god in flesh form. Jesus of the trinity which Jesus, God and the holy spirit.

@lestliness That's common belief, but god and jesus talk to each other in the bible, and jesus keeps talking about god in third person throughout his sermons.

ill have to correct you guys about the concepts of hell and final judgement, it actually appears pre new testement, at least in the book of ezra where god describes the judgement he will inflict, when ezrah asks, why the jews must suffer and why their enemiies i.e the romans, persians greeks and babylonians have done so wellto which god replies essentially 'theyre having fun NOW, but theyll pay later when my judgement comes.
still sounds abit of a copout, but there ya go jesus didnt start it

Freethinker12341 1 year ago
@mwininge an objective standard of morality is a barbaric, bigoted philosophical positon. not only are you assuming that a god exists. you're saying it doesn't matter if i chose to not believe i'm still wrong because i'm not taking it on faith. objective/absolute morality discourages independant thought, and it assumes that i should abide your standards for no apparent reason at all. how could you be so sure that there is a god to the extent that you're imposing your belief system on me...
Freethinker12341 1 year ago
@mwininge basicaly if i dont believe in your god then i get eternal punishment, it doesn't matter how good i behave, it doesnt matter if i THINK that jesus is god, i have to believe it wether i like it or not. sounds like dictatorship to me. i say extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, so before you judge me for not abiding by your criteria for respect and your standard of morality you better be absolutely sure that theres a god, you also have to show thats your god is the rite one
Freethinker12341 1 year ago
I don't understand how theists overcome the cognitive dissonance.
1. God is perfect, good, just et cetera
2. The bible is the true word of god
3. The bible contains evil acts and instructions
How can they hold those beliefs simultaneously? I believe if a theist is honest, they'll admit that they DON'T and that they justify changing or ignoring one of the three beliefs in some way.
captain150 1 year ago
@captain150 Furthermore - ""god" is supposedly perfect. A perfect being could not make something imperfect except by intention. "god" made man "perfect in his image". Man later turned out to be imperfect. So either god is imperfect or deliberately made us imperfect then punished us for being imperfect.
lewisner 1 year ago 2
@captain150 I don't understand how Atheists pretend to argue the existence of ANY god but they always end up arguing against the Judeo-Christian god Yaweh and against the Bible. hahaha.
mwininge 1 year ago
@mwininge Because theists most often try to claim that yaweh is the god that exists. I've personally never had anyone claim that zeus exists, so why would I argue about it?
captain150 1 year ago
@mwininge Probably because we live in a predominently christian nation so those beliefs tend to affect us more and we will run into more christians than muslims, hindu or what have you.

It's interesting that you're using proof from the bible to prove that religion is irrelevant. That's like talking about Lord of the Rings characters to show how they couldn't be real. You guys are the most religious atheists I have ever met. This is more like a book review.
I really appreciate your sentiment, though.
ptchjamie 1 year ago
@ptchjamie One way to show fallacy in any claim is by providing a counter-example or showing a self-contradiction. That's why they use the bible to show how wrong the bible is; the bible is a self-contradiction if it is to be taken as a book by which to live one's life. You are 100% correct; it is a book review to show that, like JRR Tolkien's works, the bible is a piece of fiction with some moral goods, but a lot of moral bad too.
lhvinny 1 year ago 3
@ptchjamie Are you serious? You honestly think people should debate about something without investigating it or using references from it? "Ok you can debate against my religion but you can't use my bible until you convert" What a poor fucking argument.
TekLok 1 year ago
@TekLok I'm sorry that my comment confused you so badly. I was admonishing the hosts for arguing down at the level of the religious. Pointing out inconsistencies in an opponent's argument is a valid tactic, but in this discussion, they refer to the bible as if it were a sacred text, which is contradictory.
