he didnt backpedal b/c he has the new "reverse" freecoaster, which..is a geisha with a solid cromoly axel, the freecoaster uses a clutch and a tapered shell to engage instead of pawls and teeth.

His back hubs a freecoaster. mainly used by flatlanders for backwards rolling trickery.they allow you to pedal 4wards as normal but rolling in reverse the gubbins inside the hub "coast" allowing the wheel 2 roll without moving the pedals. excellent pieces of kit but a good hub can cost upwards of 100 squids!! Although consider 1 thing.... BACKWARDS MANUALS!!! PEACE
