  • i've got something like this- was it expensive to sort out- please tell me its not the turbo about to die

  • @reachjimbo

nah mate, as i said it was a gasket leak manifold->turbo, and whilst it was a simple problem to fix, taking off and putting back the turbo to replace the gasket is a lot of labour, about $4-500 worth

  • @willskijza80 mine cost me a weekend

  • That would be what they call, turbo purge. When you wind up your turbo, you will hear a high whistle, then a blow-off, where the sound dies down till you wind it up again. When you push in the clutch, like when you're coming to a stop, you might sometimes hear a crackling noise, similar to a dull backfire, that is the blow-off valve. So that sound you heard when you went to shift, is the trubo fan slowing down at a rapid pace. Its normal and necessary to function. :)

  • yeah, was a gasket leak

  • cant hear though possibly just your turbo - manifold gasket - under boost will create this "scream" type of sound. no power loss etc.
