If the person survives an explosion from an IED similar to the ones used in Iraq and Afghanistan, he wouldn't have much time to live because he/she would be suffering from internal bleeding. The person inside the bombsuit would also be bleeding out of his/her eyes, eres nose, genitals, anus and would suffer from permanent hearing loss if they live. That's why they get paid so much and get $500 each call out.

The bad side of a bomb-suit is this: If you are within 10 meters of a blast larger than about 10-15lbs of HE (High Explosive) the blast will drive the chest plate into your chest hard enough to cause mortal damage to your lungs (they will later fill with fluid and you will drown to death) or severely bruise or even crush your heart.

We like to say that the bomb-suit has a 10-15% chance of saving your life and a 99% chance of making sure they have something to bury intact.

the thing about the eod suit is if you get caught in the blast and its big enough the shock will kill you,so it comes down to this the only thing wearing that suit does is give you the choise of an open or close casket funeral.the men that put these suit on know if one thing goes wrong it could be there life and to find out first hand that they dont get the proper respect is almost sick

It deflects or stops projectiles that may come from an exploded device. The second way it protects is by stopping the blast wave from being transmitted and damaging the soldier inside of the suit. Usually, Kevlar, foam, and plastic are layered and covered with fire retardant materials to accomplish this.
