  • Very cool!! Gotta check out the new You Tube Video: THE WORLD'S GREATEST VIBRAPHONE PLAYER - VICTOR FELDMAN. and SEVEN STEPS TO HEAVEN - VICTOR FELDMAN LIVE. Amazing!!! Vibe solos. LOVE IT!!!

  • There aren't enough O's in smooooooooooooth to describe these guys.

  • Conservative ? Are you kidding ? and Beethoven is conservative too? You want ONLY new music ? and which one ?

  • Gran Turismo! ^^

  • Absolutely amazing.

  • Pity about the sound quality. This is probably the preferred version for the "jazz purists". I would like to hear the "purists" comments on the version by Viktoria Mullova with the Matthew Barley Ensemble and Julian Joseph.

  • i love vibraphone!

    best jazz instrument ever!

  • Amazing!

  • I liked the vibraphonist a lot, but most of this tune feels pretty conservative. They're not doing anything that I find particularly rude or exciting. Is that the point? Is this supposed to be inoffensive?

  • @FakeSidewalks MJQ is mostly known for playing cooler jazz, even when they venture into harder-swinging bebop. The exciting part about them is how unique the transitions in their music are, and how varied the style is in a single piece - check out starting from 4:00 , very interesting stuff, not conservative jazz at all.

  • @guitarbumx Perhaps I was not listening in the right places. I'll give it another shot with a more open ear.

  • @FakeSidewalks In the big jazz picture, you're right - it is pretty conservative. But I think how they move in and around the 'head' (the melody/theme, how they begin and end the song) is really cool. And the theme/melody itself has that gypsy/classical feel to it (being a tribute to Django, after all) which is pretty unique. But I agree with you to an extent for sure.

  • LOL STEREOTYPICAL JAZZ PRESENTER

  • really beautiful music! the jazz age was grand but is coming back. so pour yourself another cocktail and ck. out this awesome L.A. octet.

    search cinnamon doll jazz

    you will dig it.

  • o.O how can anybody vote "dislike"? Is there an association that was created to dislike all good there is on the internet? I constantly see some dislikes of videos/clips/songs that are beyond great - this is one of them - and that is why I am asking, is it a joke or do these individuals just want to express their hate/pesimism/differences ...?

  • Wow, this is absolutely amazing, it's great to see these guys, all in their sixties, playing better than they did in their thirties. John Lewis absolutely kicks it, with supreme understatement. The tension between the form of the composition and the swing of the players is perfect. The song is somehow sad and exciting at the same time. Genius.

  • Saw them about 40 years ago at the Village Vanguard and they performed perfectly.

We got there early to get good seating and Percy Heath walked in early and stopped to chat with us. He was reciting some poetry as he entered. A happy person. He was so welcoming. A flawless jazz team with one of the great writers / arrangers in John Lewis. All 4 , top flight jazz artists.

  • Tickle em Milt tickle em!

  • Hair WIN

  • That piano player is hella clean. It's like he's only allowed a certain amount of notes, so he makes em count. Not overplayin n shit.

  • @BlikeNave That's John Lewis, and it's his arrangement. This was one hell of a group. Sadly, they have all passed away. Nothing like them anymore.

  • Awesome!!! :-D

  • !!! EXCELLENT !!!

  • I'm a jazz trombonist and jazz vibe/xylo player. I plan on going professional when i'm older, but this video helped with my inspiration for vibe/xylo professionalism. Although i'm 16, almost 17, I feel that I can make it. This was an awesome song.

    Floris Jansen The Netherlands

  • b.e.s.t. beautiful, esoteric, ssuperlative,testamentation...

  • I believe this is from that David Sanborn - Jools Holland music show that aired from maybe 1:00 to 2:00 in the morning, and couldn't make even the minimal ratings required for that hour. Damned shame it didn't last. It had great music that wasn't on network TV before and hasn't been since.

Somebody should put the shows out on DVD, like they did with "Jazz Casual."

  • @LEONCODAJJ pianista gitano? o guitarrista?

    saludos

  • @ThunderThighs23814 Where is Bullet real music...? They are gay, not even real Metal, and without this kind of music, there would be nothing like Metal or anything. Youre an Ignorant.

  • i love how cool and laid back jazz musicians are its a big change from watching metal hahaha although they are both awesome

  • Jazz.....Nice!!!!

  • It was a great moment when I listen live in Montréal in 1967 in a small bar/lounge "La tête de lard" with a full capacity of 100 peoples.

Well, I miss the type of very personal jazz they were playing.

    Thanks to Posted memories.

  • PUUUTTANAA EVA!!!

  • This track, which I listened to over and over as a college freshman, turned me into a vibes fan.

  • Now I like this kind of jazz! I don't like the one that sounds as if they are tuning their instruments. Is this really an improvisation?

  • justin beiber is so much better then this.-sarcastic-

  • GREAT ENVIROMENT(: !!

  • just fantastic.great stuff more of that please

  • Their music is like a beautiful sunrise, or sunset. Joyous, makes you a little sad to watch it end.

  • dude at the begin should shut up!

  • What does Third Stream mean? When people talk about the MJQ you can hear things like third stream and jazz combined with classical music and I don't get it, becouse this band really sounds different becouse of the unusual combination of instruments but I don't thing they play that much differt from other jazz musicians don't get me wrong I like them but this is something i don't understand

  • @Kemenesfalvi

Third Stream is difficult to categorize. It's not jazz mixed with classical, it's more of a classical APPROACH to jazz music. This tune is a pretty good example; it's got a lot classical theory in the chord changes, very logical, very contrapuntal, like Bach. Also check out Gil Evans and Maria Schneider. Once you hear it, you'll understand better.

  • yeah this is good but i got a song on my profile from Charlie Mingus called a foggy day that would blow your mind! more to come pleas sub and i will do the same back thx! peace love and Jazz!

  • ...apparently 50 people are deaf

  • this guys are amazing

  • Jazz played at the very highest level. Simply beautiful, simple amazing.

  • ROFL!!! the face of the pianist is very funny

  • The Modern Jazz Quartet in all of its magnificent glory playing the famous composition "Django" written by pianist/musical director John Lewis, featuring legendary vibraharpist Milt Jackson, Percy Heath on bass, & Connie Kay on drums from the wonderfully eclectic TV show "Night Music". The MJQ was a very cohesive group that featured great individual musicians, bending to the music and soloing with abandon.

  • @RaiderEleven Nice blurb. I'm going to steal it for the description of this clip.

  • @scmm42 Make sure you reference in Harvard or MHRC.

  • @RaiderEleven its not a vibraharp its called a vibraphone

  • @sgtdrumsolo It's called by either name, although 'vibraphone' is more common...I would know; I play it.

  • really fantastic this is so the king of the music world :-)

  • I'm gonna pour myself a martini and slip into something more comfortable.

  • @septip123 make it a dirty martini with 2 green olives...

  • @kerimmimar no, no olives...but maybe a Gibson (with an onion)

  • @septip123 You, sir, just said everything that is so cool yet collected and "groovy", if you may, in jazz music.
