sorry, character limit. So I used to use the COMP after the OD to control the tone more on my guitar's knob and leave the OD on all the time (mostly), but now I HAVE to use the ROSS in front of the FD2 to get about the same tone going.
I like the tone I dialed in after fiddling with the amp and entire set-up of the OD + comp + amp settings but I could never figure out if the COMP-CUT was turning off a compressor in the FD2? Or turning one on?
Hey Ben, I'm using the same amp and FD-2 as you are, so I wanted to talk some tone with you. You said the FD is a compressed TS9 style, and I had trouble fiddling with it and my ROSS comp when I switched to the FD2 from the Visual Sound Double Trouble (Good OD tone, horrible volume control and noise though).
I currently use the FM mode and standard boosts, with barely any overdrive any the boost quite high for solos. My problem was I had to turn the sustain up a ton on my ROSS, any ideas?
Yeh, i realised that after i watched the clip. Theres more a different when you are in front of the amp... but I don't think the pedal was supposed to fully change your clean. It adds a bit of fullness and bass to a clean. Such as to imitate those old fender bassmans.
@benjaminlovesthepeda question does the mudhoney play well with a fuzz pedal cause Im in the market for a fuzz type pedal that can actually work well with a wah pedal.
Thanks for the demo on the Sole Pressure (including other video), bought one based on the video. You should try some of the Lovepedal stuff, based on your choice of pedals, I think you'd like them, as well as the Indy Guitarist stuff (wampler pedals).
Regards
p.s
put up another video of your girlfriend!! She did a great job in the other video (what is the accent?).
wow..you have too many pedals. i see you have a voodoo and a fulltone ocd as well as a ts-808 reissue and TWO DIFFERENT premium wahs. you really need all those flavors of overdrive? they essentially do the same thing. pick a flavor bro. wanna sell me your fulltone wah? lol
everyone is free to do and to buy what he wants even if is the worst guitarist of the world....you are you are not anybody to decide whether to be correct or wrong and thing needs to do
Hey benjaminlovesthepeda, questions real quickly, I am interesting the the Full-Drive and the Sparkle Drive. I want a really clean compressed, almost pop guitar overdrive and I can't really decided between the two. What would you suggest?
Umm, I can't really speak for the sparkle drive as i only had it for a short while but the fulldrive was my main drive for a very long time. It was a compressed, ts9-middy style drive and worked well for me. I know many people use the comp-cut function and that may be what your looking for, but when you say-clean- i immediately think of the sparkle drive cause of the blend function. Best bet i reckon, give both a try with ur guit and amp cause that'll make a big diff! hope that helped
may i ask what drew you to buy the ibanez ts 808 rather than the MAXON OD-808? maxon makes the chips for the TS 808, except the maxon has true bypass. not criticizing, im just curious, i have a maxon od-9, and i need to buy an 808, TS or OD, im drawn towards the OD seeing as it's the identical pedal with added true bypass. id like your opinion on knowing what you think the ts808 has that tops the OD808.. ?
Uh... i got the 808 just cause it was cheap.. I believe the maxon pedals cost a little more and for a 'tube-screamer' type pedal.. i wouldn't pay that much for it. That said.. I've ditched all "tube-screamer" pedals and settled with my fulldrive.. That hits the sweet spot for me everytime
that's cool, everyone's sweet spot is different, mine keeps changing because im consumed by the need for tone. i havent tried the fulldrive, heard good things, maybe ill look in to it
That's very true. It really depends on amp choice, guitar and pickup choice. I've really settled on overdrives now and I'm working on modulation and m actualy playing of the guitar. Heh
hahaha yea at some point i was spending so much reading up on equipment i wasnt even picking up my guitar, that kinda screwed me a bit cuz it feels weird to play after.
I've just got a few drives which are just sitting there on my shelf. The hotcake is one of em. For what i was using the hotcake for previously (to slightly just make the cleans shine a tiny bit), the RC booster does it better. I may put the hotcake back on the board in the future, but my current board doesn't allow for anymore space.
yeh thats right, the hotcake does the clean breakup pretty well as well as hi gain. it's a very transparent pedal.... the RC can really only do a clean boost and a slight bit of gain
hi thanks for the demos man!! really helps a lot...i wanna get the fulltone fulldrive 2 and get rid of my sansamp triac...too much coloring...and i think its just the same size as the triac...fits right in the hole in my pedalboard :)
They'd both be 'dirty'... it really depends what kinda dirty. The fulltone is more .... tube screamer like to me. the OCD, although i haven't tried, is more like a cranked marshall amp
well, i feel the video comparison shows this, in my opinion. i personally own a fulldrive and played a ts808, never played a sparkle drive tho. i have a fulldrive 2 (not mosfet), emma reezafratzitz, and aspiring to get an rc booster/ac booster/bb preamp or xotics to ac plus, which looks real interesting. possibly also a mudhoney or keeley fuzzhead for more down to earth fuzz, i have a fuzzfactory now for out there stuff. good sounds, cheers
I've currently got a few of those pedals in hand right now and when i have time i can do some demos if u want?
I've got an RC booster and a BB Preamp available to demo with. Also i have a Fuzz Head and i just recently got a Fuzz Factory... All great pedals. I also just got an MI Audio Tube Zone which is also an amazing pedal i must say.
thatd be awesome, i also suggest checking out the emma reeza, it has an interesting tonal range with this bias knob it has, it can go from tweed to old marshal to vox esque tones, more of a distorsion tho. yeah a demo of the fuzz factory (out there pedal), fuzz head, ect, would be great, anyways thanks again, great sounds, cheers
No worries, if you have any requests on drives, or pedals in general, let me know, i can always demo it if i have the pedal or if i know someone who has one. A bit busy cause of uni nowadays, but i'll find time. :)

Christ You got a ton and a half of equpiment.
Try fiddlein' around between the Ibanez screamer, the T-rex delay, and the Wah Pedal all mixed. Those can produce a pretty cool sound.

You are not a good enough guitar player to own all those pedals. Work on your playing before your next video.

I don't see how you can dictate who's good enough to own what...
I've seen beginners start out with Gibson's and Tubed amplifiers as their first so I don't see any problem in buying whatever pedals i choose to :)

So you don't have the Hotcake in your current set up? Any reason for that?
WeezerFan666 4 years ago
I've just got a few drives which are just sitting there on my shelf. The hotcake is one of em. For what i was using the hotcake for previously (to slightly just make the cleans shine a tiny bit), the RC booster does it better. I may put the hotcake back on the board in the future, but my current board doesn't allow for anymore space.
benjaminlovesthepeda 4 years ago
It's just that I'm considering getting one. I kind of need an all rounder though, as I think I'll only be able to afford 1 or 2 OD pedals.
Is it still good at that clean-breakup thing, just not quite as good as the RC?
WeezerFan666 4 years ago
yeh thats right, the hotcake does the clean breakup pretty well as well as hi gain. it's a very transparent pedal.... the RC can really only do a clean boost and a slight bit of gain
benjaminlovesthepeda 4 years ago
So you'd recommend the Hotcake as an all round OD pedal, if I'm only wanting one?
And do you still use the Sole Pressure, as I thought that was mainly for clean boosts?
WeezerFan666 4 years ago
Yeh, the hotcake is a good pedal... I believe it responds best with vox-y style amps, because of the accentuated mids of the amp...
I'm not using the sole pressure ne more.. haha
benjaminlovesthepeda 4 years ago
RC booster taken its place? Just that I was considering both of hese to complement the Hotcake.
Long time in the future though :(
