Hi, I worked for a project at the University of Arizona for over a decade. The lab was founded by Dr Tom Gherels. We had the bench check out equipment for the scanning photopolarimeter. Dr Gherels kept the flight spare in a cabinet in his office. I always wanted to recondition the bench checkout equipment and hook up the flight spare. Is your father still alive? I'd love to ask some questions about the technical aspects of Pioneers 10 and 11.
That Pioneer model line was amazing. Culminating into 2 platforms exiting the Solar System. I wish there was something like the movie 'Contact' to make a story out of those achievements? I remember 3 great space stories I was old enough to appreciate... skylab. the viking landing and the pioneers. Its hopeful one day we'll have true artificial intelligence and exotic propulsion and machines will be exploring the entire galaxy? Your dad is a really cool engineer to be part of that job.
ooh - sorry - just seen the bit where it did - but thought it might have been quicker than that.. how fast DID they spin?

excellent video to a truly trailblazing probe. - Just one small thing - didn't both the Pioneer probes spin to maintain position?

Thanks for making and posting it
I was a Mission Controller at NASA Ames on this project (as well as Pioneers 11 and 12)
As a technician myself, I appreciate your father's work. The modification to the Imaging Photopolarimeter was key!
