  • I remember watching this when it originally aired.....= )

  • and now they play this song at breakfast time at outdoor lab!

  • Makes me wish I was still in High School, no worries & DEVO on the turn table.

  • This is awesome. Unfortunately, back in 1981 they didn't get as much airplay as they deserved.

  • THANX 4 THIS...WE ARE DEVO!!

  • I can't get the Corvette space drop scene from "Heavy Metal" out of my head when I see this.

  • wasn't that radar rider?

south park showing us culture. awsomeness

  • Radar Rider by Riggs was indeed the song used during the Corvette scene at the beginning of Heavy Metal. Working In The Coalmine was played over the start of the closing credits.

  • "Loooord! I am soooo tired! How long can this go on?"

I love the little ad lib Mark and Gerry do at the end of the song!

Hehe, I remember playing this song on some of the more drudging jobs I've had in my life, helped me keep it going till the end of the work day : )

  • I was 10 when I saw this.. love these guys - just flew to SF to see them play 'Are we not men?" and 'Freedom of Choice' both nights awesome.

  • @devmonkey01 Flew out to Chicago to see them in 2004. Well worth the trip.

  • That was awsome!!! Thank you for posting this, spud.

  • That's part of what I love about Devo, how theatric they are.

  • Awesome threatric's indeed.

  • I remember seeing this show! Thanks for posting this, I have a flood of really great memories going through my mind right now. Long live DEVO

  • Great stuff, now we have ipods and the music industry to going to pot! noone wants slicks anymore or cd's it seems!

  • Elder1 - oh, I'll take CDs every time. Downloadable music (MP3, ipod, et al) is compressed and lacks the audible range of uncompressed music on a CD.

  • I couldn't agree more, i want to be able to see my music collection ;)

  • i still want cds..abd vinyl..and cassettes..and even 8 tracks..

  • I'm as old school (and old) as any DEVO fan but digital music is great. convenient and delicious.

  • The two things that stand out in my memory of the TV show Fridays was 1) Melanie Chartoff wearing a bikini in that one sketch, and 2) the reoccurring character Dick, played by Michael Richards.

  • @DancingSpiderman michael richards was the best part of late night tv

  • @rmherbert1957 Oh yeah I forgot Michael Richards as Battle Boy --- damn that was ME playin in the dirt with my green plastic army men and tonkas and earthworms

  • @DancingSpiderman brilliant absolute genius! stifled by tv and the fcc.

    michael richards battle boy

  • Thanks for taking the time to put these up. I remember seeing Devo in high school, and just got to see them live for the 1st time a few eeks ago. Cheers to you!!!

  • I think the vocals are live, but the backing track is recorded. Just an opinion.

  • THEY ARENT PANTOMIMING! like retro said...

    ITS A FREAKIN SEQUENCER!

  • A homage to hardworking miners before, a homage to all of us corporate redneck hardworkers of today (I'm at the office, it's Friday and I'm too tired for having fun!!). Thank you Spuds!

  • Great footage! Keep it coming. Hearing this reminds me of when I first saw the Heavy Metal cartoon movie!

  • The entire soundtrack for the animated "Heavy Metal" was groovy. It was the first tape I bought for my spiffy pseudo-Walkman circa 1981-1982...

    THANKS FOR POSTING THIS! :-)

  • This is the first song in the end credits of "Heavy Metal". Catchy little thing.

  • 1st time i ever saw fridays and devo were on the same night . i thoght it was dreadful music for the future but i later liked them

  • They did this routine in australia and were bood at its not live and thats what you pay for still one of my alltime favorite bands though

  • identical to the studio track, they're not even playing instruments, if you hadnt noticed... unless thats a fender shovel bobs riffing on

  • That is not identical to the studio track at all. It is a sequencing sampler keyboard, possibly a Korg Mirage.

  • Um..... There were no suitable samplers in 1981 to do this track. Oh and the Mirage was made by Ensoniq in 1985. This is a backing tape.

  • Indeed.

  • Thats not live, it's canned, they're pantomiming... ugh!

  • Wrong quiz kid. There is nothing of this performance that is identical to the studio track. The instrumental part is done on sequencing keyboards.
