@TheLiberalKnight. Britains economy went downhill after 1945 simply because the amount of money owed by the country due to the War. They talk about the debt now, it was collossal back then. And so where we may now no longer be the "sick man of Europe", who has benefited from this countires GDP of 2.2 trillion? In 1979s, under Keynesian plans, Britain's economy was about to be overtaken by Italy, inflation was in the double digits, unemployment was high. By 1990, Britain was the largest economy in Europe, and today our financial sector is the greatest on planet earth, 1/3 of all financial transactions are done through London. We are, once again, a great power.
