  • The year was 1973 and I used to play this for my little girl and she would put her head on shoulder at age 3 and when he would say daddy what if I stopped loving you she would look at me and say "no way". She passed away a few years back but this song kindles a memory that brings a smile to my face and solidifies a daughter and father love that never ends.

  • what the hell happened--he was a cute little kid and now he looks like some kind of freak with hair all twisted and out of place--what the crap!!!!!!!!!!!! And singing songs with stupid no-talent lyrics unlike Bobby Bare Senior

  • Omg I used to sing with my dad this song when I was a kid

  • love it

  • Verry nice.

  • John, I met Bobby and his son (Bobby Jr.) 2 yrs ago in Nashville. I got his autograph, a nice bear hug, and a picture with him. That is a great song.

It has remained in my heart for about 35 years now! NEVER knew there was any kind of Video to go along with the song! Thanks again for posting

  • amen

  • very swell what year was this in?

  • @largest85 The song was popular in 1971 or 72 so this was made about then. Little Bobby would be older now than his dad probably was then

  • @Fedproman -Sad to say Bobby Junior died of an Asthma attack not long after he did this song with his dad. I had a son who has Asthma who now is a young man, but hearing this I still feel sad for Bobby bare on his loss.

  • @weaver791 I did not know that, thanks for the info. The song sure takes on a different meaning now.

  • @Fedproman Bobby Jr is alive and well. Search this title here at YouTube: "Bobby Bare Jr. & Isabella Bare - Daddy, What If" You will see him perform this song with his own young daughter.

  • @KicknAssnPlacinBlame Thanks I will.

  • @KicknAssnPlacinBlame Thank you for your info correcting me. I posted this, but over 30 years ago I met Bobby singing at Peterborough UK ,I was hooked on his voice, at that time I also subscribed to " Country Music People" It was in this magazine they printed that Bobby Bare's son had died of a respiritory disease not long after his album " Singing in the kitchen was released over here in the UK. On You Tube I see it was his daughter Shannon that died. so sorry for adding the wrong info.Sorry.

  • 2 people stopped loving their daddies.

  • @GJNCA Either this or "A Boy Named Sue"

  • I made a recording of myself and my kindergarten aged son singing this song years ago. I played it for his teacher at that time after school. During the song, another teacher walked into the room, heard the song, and told me that her brother in law was a country singer, who also sang the song. His name? Bobby Bare.

  • Heard this for the first time this past Father's Day while Mom and I were going home from church. My dad passed away just two months before then. Thing is, the grass did stop growing, the sun stopped shining, and the wind stopped blowing that day.

  • i think i like the shel silverstein version better, where the author himself sings. :))

  • I've loved this song ever since the '70s when it was released but have never seen the video. Seeing this video adds a whole new dimension to this song. It's so genuine. I also have a new appreciation for Shel Silverstein as I've just discovered this is the same author of the children's literature. I never realized he wrote this and some other great songs as well.

  • I had the opportunity to meet Bobby bear and now seeing this video of him and his son touched my heart.

  • Lovely song...I love their performance

  • Thanks for this great post!

  • love this song

  • This is great. The other one I'm looking for is the duet Bobby Jr. did with his mommy on the album Singin in the Kitchen; Mam, Where'd I Come From? Another sweet song. Anyone have a copy to post?

  • this is cute

  • this is a really good song i hope every one likes it

  • Played this just before they carried daddy out of the funeral home. This and "Lord Help Me Jesus" by Kris Kristofferson were the first 2 songs I remember Daddy playing for us. I knew I had to play it for him at his funeral. I will never forget this song and all the songs on "Lullabys, Legends, & Lies" double album that Daddy played constantly. God bless Daddy and Bobby Bare & Bobby Bare, Jr.

  • When I 1 heard this song it touched me. Ithought of the times i fought with my dad and asked my self why??? This song will touch me for life hope it will do the say for everyone else. So next time i fight with my dad i will think of this song and stop and ask why and tell him i love him. and i will never leave him and i lovve you for life.

  • Unreal! Thanks for posting this gem! BB rules!

  • absolutely adorable.

  • Super, I Love Bobby sr :)

  • Bobby Jr was SO cute!

  • First time I heard this, it touched a nerve for me. I was a teenager struggling for identity and how to define my changing relationship with my father. I lost Dad in 1996, and I've thought about this song many times. I know Dad loved me, but didn't know how to show it. Well, now I'm a Dad and a Grandpa; every day, i say, "I love you."

Dad, thanks for being there when the wind stopped blowin, the sun stopped shinin, and the grass stopped growin. I'll see you & Mom both over there.......
