I really loved this performance from Carly. This and "Crazy on you" were my top two performances from her and it is amazing to me that I still come back to look it up and listen to her sing this song... I think she turned a dated song into a modern ballad and it is dreamy!

I loved this performance. It was truly a bellwether performance Carly that not only extended the range of material in her Idol oeuvre but really showed Ms Smithson ability to reinterpret a song and take it away from Idol's pure karoake roots. This is a 10/10 and a top ten all time Idol performances.
I liked, i didnt love it. She can do so much better, I thni she was trying to play it safe by singing a soft toned song. Because last week she shreiked her way through Total Eclipse. But it was definately good. But Simon had no right to call her out on her clothes...a 7 and a half out of 10 for me!
I'm debating on if American Idol, with season eight starting tonight, should get any more of my precious time. I have always felt that it was a rigged promotional campaign for a predetermined winner, but after watching Carly's amazing run last year I cease to care who is trotted out.

I'll always remember this performance...Carly on stage singing this beautiful song I had never heard before, I had tears in my eyes. And Simon lied...on other seasons he said he did NOT like country music, and here he says he does like it. We know the truth, he loved David A and hates country.
She said she did end up crying, but she waited until she got back stage. I would have slapped Simon then and there. She looked gorgeous. The only reason why Simon made that comment is because he couldn't say anything negitive about her singing :)
This was a forced song choice, the last song on the list for that week because Carly wanted to do Jolene and Brooke ended up getting it in a hat draw. This was so, so awesome too.

I actually like the live version on this song, that big note at the end is pristine here and the studio had some kind of tuning tricks done on it and it doesn't sound natural to me.
But Carly definitely does not sound like Brooke White, either on the show or studio versions.
I agree about the glory note, I like the live version better, I think the note is different in the studio version because the studio version is structured so that the song keeps rising to the part with the bigger power note than the softer one we hear here.

This "Irish girl" was the star. You can see it and hear it clearly in the group performances. She has the chops (range & control), the distinctive tonal quality and really was amazingly consistent in the fact of almost constant bashing from Cowell and Randy too on occasion.
After all these years, I still get chills from all her performances.

I'll always remember this performance...Carly on stage singing this beautiful song I had never heard before, I had tears in my eyes. And Simon lied...on other seasons he said he did NOT like country music, and here he says he does like it. We know the truth, he loved David A and hates country.

She said she did end up crying, but she waited until she got back stage. I would have slapped Simon then and there. She looked gorgeous. The only reason why Simon made that comment is because he couldn't say anything negitive about her singing :)

This was a forced song choice, the last song on the list for that week because Carly wanted to do Jolene and Brooke ended up getting it in a hat draw. This was so, so awesome too.

I really liked this one. The ending was great! Man, does she look pissed when Simon makes that comment about her wardrobe. She went from smiles to being really annoyed.

I think Carly is an absolutely stunning looking woman and her voice OMG is amazing. I cannot wait for her to release a CD. She should not have been voted off, she should have gone on to win, as usual the voting public got it wrong. She is a superb singer and she can sing any kind of music. You rock my world Carly, I love you.

Carly looks so beautiful and sounds so freaking good and Simon craps all over her. The charm of this show is long, long gone. Anyone who watched this farce of a show this year and saw the disparity between the performances and the "judging" has to come away shaking their heads.

i didnt mean cook i meant archuleta, they wanted him to win, we chose cook instead (the right choice). your right cook is amazing, but your wrong about him being waaaaay more talented and powerful than carly, ESPECIALLY on the power part i mean come on man that one isnt even opinion that's just science. I love cook, he, Carly, and Michael were my top three. archie is my cash cow popular vote enemy this year.

yes u do have the point, but in my opinion i guess they are both vocally powerful, i know what u mean, michael johns, carly was underrated, they both deserved the top 2 and 3 spot, sad really, unlike a certain someone who was OVERRATED this season, do i need to mention the name? i think we all know him by now.

I actually like the live version on this song, that big note at the end is pristine here and the studio had some kind of tuning tricks done on it and it doesn't sound natural to me.
But Carly definitely does not sound like Brooke White, either on the show or studio versions.

I agree about the glory note, I like the live version better, I think the note is different in the studio version because the studio version is structured so that the song keeps rising to the part with the bigger power note than the softer one we hear here.

This "Irish girl" was the star. You can see it and hear it clearly in the group performances. She has the chops (range & control), the distinctive tonal quality and really was amazingly consistent in the fact of almost constant bashing from Cowell and Randy too on occasion.
