Russia was close to be done. Russia had only a chance because of the continuess (heavy) weapon delivieries by the US, the largescale destructure of infrastructure in germany due to allied bombing and the binding of large parts of german military resources in the west and africa. You might want to read up on the topic.
Germany came close to beating russia while fighting britain, the USA and their allies. Not to mention the enourmous military support russia got from the USA. Without having to fight and bind large resources at the western front, and russia beeing heavily supported by the USA, russia would very probably had fallen fast. Again, u might want to enhance your historical knowledge...

There was the Waffen-SS, basically hitlers personal bodyguard army, and the ones that commited the most atrocities.

Hitler therefore effectively had three chiefs of staff (Jodl, Zeitzler and Guderian) in addition to Himmler and Goering. All these people disliked each other and no other nation could have offered such a diverse organization for ground troops :-)

"what kind of army was that": it was the "kind of army" that Hitler didn't trust; that is why he fragmented its command structure. Hitler remarked that he had completely separated the panzer arm from the rest of the army with this end in view :-)
