@81Donnie dracula x chi no rondo pc engine 185$ ish , and for the nes Panic Restaurant at about 99 bucks. the most ive spent on a single game would have been the dracula x at 20% off 179. so about 150~. i clearly remember spending almost 100 dollars on warcraft 3 box set in 2002 and knowing/thinking that was the most expensive game i ever bought. even when chrono trigger snes was 79.99 new
@CrazyGamesDude thats my goal. i try to buy a few 100+ dolalr games a year adn next spring im drop a good 600-900 on a rare game with my tax return since i got a hdtv this year. i need cheeta men bubble bath babiesand hotslots poker still ima get one of them.
it looks like having a video might be your best bet. have everything looked at front and back. dont just take a video of the sides of your games it needs to be the whole item. if its a cd game it needs to be opened and shown the cd. if in a box and not factory sealed it needs to be opened and shown the contents and game. this is info my insurance broker told me this morning the day after the video
@echo036 just have videos of all your stuff. if your house is protected by fire it might take a while but if you have things documented with video it can help you after the fact.
Thanks for participating. I love hearing all the different answers and viewpoints. I just realized that I think I'm the only one who's done this that has actually sold everything in the past.
Thanks for doing the research on the insurance angle. I know I've heard of people who do have it. I'm sure the fellow who bought the $32000 boxed Air Raid a couple of months back has insurance. I remember reading about it because he wants to eventually make a museum.
And I'm sure no insurance policy on the planet excludes video games. They needn't be new either, because in reality every game you own is not new. All you must watch out for is make sure you are insured for the total value. If u r insured for 200,000, and total damage is 220,000 because of rare games, they would penalize you 10%, and only pay you 180,000 TOTAL. Never underinsure! (My brother is insurance broker)
@duhmez kool info ! this is what my insurance broker is telling me. that my youtube video and my 1 + years of vids is well enough to prove i had these items. as long as everything is shown clearly and able to specify.
I don't know about where you live, but up here in canada, if you merely made a video, and pass everything u own acroess the field of view, this would be sufficient documentation to be fully insured for the REPLACEMENT COST. If you have some more expensive titles it may require just a little work on your part to showm aybe a closed ebay auction, or online store seling it. No additional coverage would be required either, as it is your stuff, and unless excluded specifically like bikes, u covered
Nice response, good info on the insurance too i was considering it when my collection got bigger, but i dont want to pay the money lol i live with my parents in a safe location at the moment so im ok but when i get my own place il be bumping up the security as well as protection against fire or floods.
@amurphy245 i live in my parents house also as they take care of the bills and i keep the place afloat. my pops is looking a what is in his coverage but nothing my parents own inside the house is worth anything near what my small videogame room is worth. we have 50,000+ dollars worth of plants in and outsides the house but thats it. so idk if he has a "home contents" coverage as there nothing but his old hdtv worth anything. even my guns are in the garage in a gunsafe so there safe there.
Love the passion man! My collection is not even close to yours but i dont think i will ever get rid of it. I love my collection and hope it grows tramendously! Great vid!!
Vinnie, I would just estimate what your games are worth and add that cost to the "Personal Property" section of your Home Owners Insurance. I'm not an expert, but I think that would cover it. :)
Allow me to ask you a question. What would you want to happen with your collection if you die? Before you say something easy like "let my friends have it" . put real thought into it.
@GreenJanuary i have thought a few things but i do not klnow atm. my uncle being a neurologist and jsut like me, cept with more money, wants to be frozen close to death. hes extended the offer to me and if thats the case ima be frozen and kept with my games to wake up in the future and play them.
@vinnieblacklodge intresting, i told my wife i want all the video games to go back to goodwill (unless she wants to keep any) and all my closed toys to goto toys for tots.
if you have homeowners insuerance, then you are covered for what ever is in your house,, just take a video of what you have and put it somewhere else... you dont need specific video game insurance...
And had the guys (who were legally able to) appraise them and now they are in a fire proof safe in the closet in my game room lol. As for receipts I have kept everything I have bought for the last 9 years in a safe, and they counted as legal documentation, and proof of ownership.
@911BONEZ yeah i think all of this is great ideas. i would love to be a video game appraiser... in addition im making the videos of everythign people are telling me to.
I have a comic book collection, and a Coin collection in edition to my video game collection. The way I went about getting the comics and coins insured as online. I had to search for a person who knew what the value of the comics were. I finally found a man from Vermont who knew that the "Millie the Model" comics were worth more than the 30 cents I was told, about $200 more. I had to put out ads asking people about the comic appraising. The coins were easier, I took them to my local coin shop
@sinistermoon yeah but it all has to be appraised or have receipts for it all like tv , game systems receipts. and for older games im still trying to find out how you would go about showing that you have a small item worth alot or 1000+ small items all worth something. if you had 1000 diamond rings, that would cost you lots of money to have someone appraise them all and tell you what their worth, so you could insure them properly. that being said idk how retro games would be done legally.
@vinnieblacklodge they will give you the replacement cost, which easy to find for any game on ebay.. I had two guitars stolen out of my car in my driveway, and I got full replacement value for them from my homeowners insurance
Damn even tho I recently past 200 NES carts I got a long way to go to match your collection. Speaking of you wanting to build a shelf I will send you a video of my NES home built shelf, keep in mind when watching it looks fairly empty when compared to my games now!
@starsoldier1 theres "home contents" my broker says but that can get expensive and you have to have everything appraised and cataloged with receipts and such. it would be considered computer ware atm im told.
What is your most valuable game you have, what was the most valuable game that you used to have, what was the most you spent on a game.
