if u ever know dat pandit bhimsen joshi is god of indian classical music den u won't have guts to say those filthy words. u should feel shame dat u r insulting ur own culture....kahte hain na "apne hi pairon par kulhari marna".....all our indian singers either it is shreya ghosal or atif aslam, they all have base from classical music....n if you love english songs, then i'm damn sure you like those bloody singers- lady gaga n alice cooper who don't have their base classical
I couldn't find 'sexypranav's' comment, but I'm guessing from the reactions that his comment was pretty brain-dead. However, when you talk about 'shame for insulting one's own culture', I can make the same judgement about you. I don't respect Bhimsen Joshi because 'I respect my culture', I don't give a shit who's culture is, it doesn't matter, what matters is that his singing hypnotizes me, that's all that matters. Please don't bring you stupid 'group identity' arguments here...
I listen him repeatedly ,,the whole day..nearly 5-6 hrs..i have exam and i feel very good and relaxed to study while listening him in background.. He'll never die,,he is in our hearts..
@drsandeepdahiya Pt Bhimsen Joshi was influential because at least two generations of musicians wanted to be like him, and many innocently mimicked his style. He had grace and charisma in person and on stage.
Many people turn towards Indian Classical Music by listening Panditji`s Voice. He was really BHEEMSEN.we have lots of Ustad & Pandit...BUT nobody is nearer to BHEEMSEN.He is not only BharatRatna but VishawaRatna SwaraBhaskar Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.
Get some real BRAINS and remember we have 5 sense ears being very important ones among them and organs other than that in the middle of our pants (Atleast we have them)
Just came to know of his death a few months ago. One of my favorite classical singers. Now I will just have to live with the regret that I never managed to attend a live performance of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi (:
Bhimsen-ji you were loved. Your artistry rightly earned you the title of Bharat Ratna. Thank you, you showed the deep and beautiful soul of India to us through music.
@tbalarao You cannot be more true. The Lion has stopped roaring, but the Lion will always roar in our years; Hindustani Shastriya Sangeet has lost its voice, but the voice will always be heard in our hearts.
Music and Joshi ji belong to each other. Blessed we are to live at a time when he too lived. Today, i.e 24-1-2011 is the 164th Aaradhana of St.Thyagaraja (another king of divine music) and Bhimasenji has choosen this day to become one with God. Panditji Aap Amar hai.
Jogiya - a Raaga which has mesmerized listeners for centuries, but here When Pandit ji is rendering "piya milan ki aas..." Jogiya is becoming something else... not a mere Ragaa, but a celestial vehicle which will take us beyond our mere worldly demands and expectations!
If God does not exist, then who is Bhimsen singing to? He is not singing FOR us, he is singing TO someone, and who can that someone be but God? Perhaps God exists while Bhimsen is singing, and when he stops, who knows?
imagine, after full nights concert of 3 nights, after listening to many singers, at 5.30-6.00am on third morning this great Bharatratna will sing such extraordinary raagas, expressions, culminating as crowning glory of sawai gandharva music festival in Pune. sadly gone are those days and nights!
@BIBISHAN I agree with you. I have the same experience here in Kolkata in Dover Lane Music Conference. Listening to so many musicians and the culmination with Panditji , at the dawn of last night, with 'Pia ke" or "Jo Bhaje' or with some bandish of Raag Basant. Alas, those days are gone. If only God can bring him back to his former health!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@birkhauer Dear Friend, This is, for your info, raag Bhairav, one of the most soulful melodies in the Indian music. For the sort of me and a vast majority of the Indian classical music lovers, this is DIVINE MUSIC that takes your mind to a comtemplative and meditative state.. Please donot equate this divine music to something that makes you feel "high", it should make you feel "divine". You don't want to stop what????
words cant express satisfaction of this rendition we r fortunate that we r contemporaries of Panditji and Lataji. do us a favour pl post bhavani jagatjanani by panditji its divine
I could attend some of the last Savai festivals with his involvement, But as I could not afford a chair then, I was on ground at a distance. I remember the efforts in vain to get a glimpse of him and just watching him on screens around.
Had the hair on my arms standing on end. Panditji is truly a national treasure. Beautifuly Jogiya Thumri. Another beautiful Jogiya rendition of Bhimsen is "Jiya Me Basi".

A true quality of a genius.

We are just plain lucky to have lived in this time of musical renaissance of Indian Classical Music! Every moment was an awakening!
