  • someone can put the lyrics? please

  • It's cliché gothic/wave

    But it's sound so gooooood

  • Can somebody tell the lyrics?

  • Comment removed

  • yeahh great song!

  • nowhere near as good as the scottish post punk band the wake

  • Stone did this sound better

  • Film in Mexico :D 1995 :3 the wake forever

  • Oh I loved The Wake those days. And I still like them. Great voice (slightly different to Andrew's if you ask me).

  • sisters of mercy..

  • The Sisters Of Mercy ???

  • Je partage l'avis de ceux qui pense que ca ressemble beaucoup trop aux Sisters...

  • first, they sound like Sister or ezrly Cln of Xymox; second they name a song Christine after the cult Siouxsie song; then their name their band The Waka after the cult Factory Records band...... that is a lot of coincidence. Trainspotters!

  • So I decide to name my band The Wake.... And I do a search on YouTube so to make sure there's no other bands by that name.... Turns out there is a band and they sound brilliant! Definately reminiscent of The Sisters and that's why I love them!!!! Although Andrew Eldricht is sooo much hotter and I do prefer his voice but the wake are cool too! So in the end I've to look for a new name..... XD XD

  • This sucks.

  • They had to really want to sound like The Sisters... this is no mistake, but never the less, I like them

  • The wake was sort of the american version of the sisters of mercy but both equally good

  • this is the sound that i like so dark and amazing, greetings from peru for the gothic community worlwide

  • It's like Rodney Orpheus from Cassandra Complex...

  • Is this the singer of Sister's of Mercy or do they predate Sisters of Mercy or is it just by chance they sound like them or... :/

  • It would be way cooler if the band was called the limo driver and the valets

  • this is a terrible Sisters rip off.

  • @mandingo1 This is no Sister's rip off, I love both bands but this is BETTER!

  • It seems like a 80´s gothic band: The Sisters of Mercy.

  • It seems like a 80´s gothic band: The Sisters of Mercy.

  • THE WAKE..!just awsome music.. DAMNnice.. like alwys.. great stuff

  • Never get bored of this track great tune and pounding drums.

  • where can I find lyrics for these guys?

  • is this the same band that made crush the flowers, because that shit was cool but this shit is whack as fuck

  • Different band completely. These are from America apparently. The Wake who did Crush the Flowers (pop songs don't get much better than that, btw) hail from Glasgow :)

  • NOSSA QUE PARADA SINISTRA

  • Killing Christine?

  • he sings exactly like andrew eldritch from sisters of mercy

  • I also love the video in black and white in the graveyard, authentic, chillingly beautiful

  • there is a thin line between the alternative dark wave and the alternative new wave, prob the dark wave (rock), the new wave (synth) i love both sounds, dark and industrial alternative, my cup tea

  • this is alternative industrial rock new wave, i love it very, very, very, very much, they sometimes call this dark wave in europe

  • im 47 and still love goth

  • Anyway, great song.

Also, I lol'd at singer, he's looking like cop.

A cop singing gothic rock, lol.

  • >Rosetta Stone - Christine (Re-mix 2.3 wHATEver)

    lolwut? is this a remix?

  • Some people on here are saying they're a sisters copy. But unlike others I don't "feel" it when I listen to them. They simply adopted the style I think...not blatantly copy it. The singer can sing, he's not trying to copy Eldritch, hes just using his style.

  • Great band!!!

At: 1:43 the pure essence of the real Gothic Rock sound.

Alleged "gothic" rock bands Turn Off the Awful Metal guitar pedal!!

  • goth rocks !!!!

  • @ cybershane That is sadly not so much a Rumour as it was true in 97 he kicked them off for "making" fun of his style of vocals and playing . Good man just has a bit too much ego sometimes . Rate down if you must . I really dont care. PLus the wake are suc a good band . really great tsyle even if its borrowed slightly From the sistes .

  • a classic!

  • how awesome, I noticed its Mexico City!!!!

  • I used to talk a lot with Rich Witherspoon from The Wake when he worked at Lang's music in Columbus Ohio in the late 80's. I also played pool a few times with Troy at Staches back in the day. Good guys. Glad to see their music is still out there.

  • that's better than the sisters. haha. sometimes the copy gets better than the original.

  • WHOA--this is awesome--I'm one lucky bastard to have found these guys.

  • Powerful tracks and very morbid video.

  • Can I get lyrics?:)

  • I thank all these bands who can write this kind of real music, who can show as what true feelings can do.. an another beautiful dream to rest as from trashes of life or some times we have feld like this or we want..

  • @YourImaginaryEnd no I will have to go check it out, thanks. I still go out and I still buy new outfits though..just got a big shipment of new clothes from fanplusfriends..spent $1100 and it was really worth it. Money goes a long way in China..

  • Best American Goth band by a mile I used to send demo tapes to Van guys like him and Trev from Every New Dead Ghost kept the faith.

  • nice, a little siterish, but to be fair, if its a remix by stone, that makes it even better. Whats all this scene crap anyhow, just be you, fuck it.

  • This is Rosetta Stone's mix, not the album version, or am i mistaken?

Anyway - a great, catchy, danceable song. Thanks a lot for putting the video up!

  • Totally and the industrial they play is pure crap. Its like crappy recycled techno.

  • Damn, such great music. I just hate that I will never be able to form a band playing this type of music cause no one is interested and the ones that are can't be found.

  • HUhuu

  • The Wake are awesome! if you like this band, please check out my band on youtube called Elegy of Madeline, we have a video entitled 'Our Naked Masque (hymn to dust) with a very similar style in a way. Anyhow, great vid! hopefully they will tour here in florida sometime.

  • when i go too skool i get teased about the type of music i listen too

w is the point in that (bloody techno fags)

  • ótima!!

  • Whats happened this is'nt the Wake, can some one explain ?

  • @Hooverdan there are 2 wake's; the british post punk band and this american goth band. it's quite confusing because sometimes they sound quite the same.

  • oh my this sounds so much like sisters of... oh wait there are already 1000 people complaining about this. Fact is that this track sounds very cool, and the returning element of a (edited) dark, deep voice doesn't bother me at all. The instrumentals sound awesome.

  • this isnt even the wake or not the original one look up the wake on factory records

  • hehehehe

  • Why do they have to sound like Sisters of Mercy, per se? Is SOM the only dark wave band? There were many others before them, you know.

  • This era just seemed to be about people copying the sister of mercy. It's kinda stupid in my opinion. It's obviously not his normal singing voice.

  • @clearviewmind Since SOM refuses to give something to us then I'll settle for this.

I find it a pretty good copy of SOM. I bought all 3 albums and I can say the last one is more like Type O Negative.

    :)

  • haha...true. I've stopped seeing them live for that reason. Piss take!! Fair enough, mate.

  • @clearviewmind Sister of Mercy has the best damn gothic vocals ever period.

  • @666deathghost Uuuh this is The Wake. Totally Different band,

  • @avocadopunk I know that I'm just stating my opipion about another band not this one ok?

  • @avocadopunk Escuse me opinion not "opipion" sorry about that.

  • @666deathghost LOL and isn't it spelled excuse me? ;)

    so cute.

  • @avocadopunk Excuse not "escuse" my falt again. ;-)

  • @666deathghost

So true that Andrew Eldritch had the best vocals. As for elders calling you a poser, shame on them. I am an elder and say listen to what you like old and new. I just so wish some of the young people would give some of the older bands a chance and not just only listen to new bands.

  • @bobby666666 Thanks man. But the new generation thats trying to get into the scene don't realize that the bands what there listening to is from the metal scene the sub-genre "Gothic Metal" thats strictly Metal. But I do like that sub-genre of Metal and I also like Industrial Metal as well. Alot of elders from the goth scene starts getting on us cause according to them they're trying to over the goth scene. Well I get alot of shit for everything I do from almost everybody. The scenes need 2 unite

  • @bobby666666 exactly, if you dont know the older bands you cant understand what the newer bands are all about, I can spot it when they borrow stuff from the old artists and I kinda know where they are coming from when they do it.

  • thanks for this :-)

  • Does anyone know where I can find a download for this song? Been searching everywhere...

  • Egypt is calling

  • is that Mexico??

  • can somebody tell me in what country this video was shot?? plz ppl it's very important!!!!!!!

  • Wikipedia tells: A video for Christine also exists, and is set amongst the Spanish and Aztec landmarks of Mexico City.

  • I love the intro, just kicks in.

  • great song great video

  • The goth version to Village People's ''Macho Man''

  • @ego1st0ne I just wanted to give you a thump up for this commentary - made my day!

But never ask a cop where the construction worker, the indian, the cowboy and this guy in leather are!

What ever, I was looking for the same named british post-punk band.

  • Ouch.

  • Two bands with the same name... I know of two New Orders, two bands named the Pastels, Nirvana, etc etc. It's kind of funny.

And this video rocks, music and visual-wise <3

  • @malachai37 There are even three bands named "Dogs".

  • Lol what the hell, I thought this was the British Post-punk band. What are the chances that In two days I discover two bands with the same name, that both happen to be great.

  • It just happened to me, too.

  • love it.

    looooooove it.

    very joy division-ish

  • Poes!! can't load it on my latest samsung phone....fuccckkrr lime wire naaier!!! any alternatives...for imac???

  • I heard a rumor...

Several years back (97 or 98), The Wake was opening for Sisters in Europe somewhere... Andrew Eldritch kicked them off stage because he thought they were making fun of him!

  • Haha.. that was funny.

    But not true.

  • though it could be typical of eldritch i do not think it 's real XD

  • @cybershane The 90's was the last great era of this underground music.

  • @oramikleepunk The underground scene is still alive, but now so only more underground.

  • @cybershane LOL

  • @cybershane Eso es muy posible!! con lo engreido que es Eldritch!!!

  • @cybershane lol

  • @cybershane Alot of those goth bands in the 90's were good, but sometimes they sounded like the sisters lol.

  • Their music was muthafuckin' TIZZIGHT. Too bad the singer was a pompous asshole.

  • he was?

  • this goes to out to christine..dead in australia, dead in the red stone...sobek calls in the fayoum...christine,.,,

    what does it mean....

  • Is is only me or do I hear the singer from Sisters Of Mercy in this song?

  • hm...i think so too

  • but he does not look like Andrew Eldritch

  • Hm, I think it's a guy who sounds a lot like Andrew Eldritch, but I've liked The Wake for about 13 years now, and I think it is a good thing, in their case. It sounds great for their type of music.

  • really....What does it mean? about a girl named Christine, car, or what? ??? love the song. and what is with the skull with a crown of thorns and with a cross shape. human skulls are hard to come by.

  • my guess would be it's a reference to Siouxie's track Christine but just a guess.

  • "Egypt is falling..."

  • My favourite song from the Gothic Rock Compilation Volume II's second CD by Cleopatra Record. Fucking awesome.

  • Their best song ever !

  • Man, those were the days!..I go to the club and its all industrial crap now..I wish these kids would bring back "the Goth" ...funny thing is that I didnt really like this one back in the day..I considered it a Sisters rip-off but to hear it now I can give it a thumbs up! In some ways a bit better than the Sisters.

  • Exactly. That's what made me slowly stop going to the clubs after awhile...now it's just like now "eh, whatever"

  • Yeah I go and Im just wasting time there..and money. Only the occaisional is worth going to..I saw the only Xymox show in the US in the past 10 years just a few months ago..it was awsome, they played for 45 min..Ive got photos too...only 200ppl at the show! seach for "xymox ibar" here on youtube and there is video..I was just a few feet to the left of the camera man! woo hoo! lol

  • What songs did they do? And why so short of a time on stage?

  • I have no Idea why I wrote 45 min in that post, i was thinking 2 hours..the show was really long and they were having a really good time playing for an American crowd..they did like 4 encores..you name it, they played it. But nothing off of the "Phoenix" CD..just goth stuff. Moscovite Mosquito, Damp Dark Day, Evelyin stuff like that.

  • Did they do Louise or Jasmine and Rose? What about No Words?

  • they did Lousie Jasmine and Rose and alos "All I have" and a bunch of others I dont remember if they played "no Words" or not

It was a very good show, worth every penny

  • You are thinking about Clan of Xymox

  • Yeah, I bet. I freaking love Ronny, I'd do anything to hear Back Door live.

  • did you see the video of it here on youtube?/ search "xymox ibar orlando muscoviet mosqueito" Im about 5-10 feet from the left of the guy filming..cant see me though..I do have fotos of me at the show on my Myspace page in the Ibar photos section..

  • I'm one of the kids still bent on bringing The Sisters to the masses, but it's difficult to be young and into the scene. The older folks don't like you because you weren't even born when these bands were around, and the kids your own age are into industrial and ebm.

The old folks need to let their judgemental bs go if they want the scene to carry on. Calling us 'posers' for being born in the Manson generation doesn't help batcave goth stay alive. It just turns kids away.

  • Im not telling you not to listen to it..the kids Im talking about have never even heard of the "Sisters' and the other great bands..they think "Goth" is Metal or Industrial and its not! So, if youre like me you just look at them like there from another planet b/c theyre all fucked up about things... bc no one has ever taught them about anything and they dont even really whant to know. Then they act as if they know everything! Its a real trip!

  • be yourself, have fun. most of your older "goths" are still goth, but have to go to the "cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the baby " sceene.

  • very true. my wife and i are in that category. haha! =-)

  • Ageism will always be there. Your elders will always be your elders. One day you will be the elder.

What's important is that you know the music, respect the music, and love the music. Eventually they will see that.

But a bunch of little kids running around with stupid runes painted on their foreheads with black grease pencil over three pounds of white grease makeup, wearing trench-coats and being the exact stereotype that the media loves to drool over kind of pisses us off.

  • @Shoogle Why you whipper snapper you !!! I should embed my false teeth in your neck and beat you senseless with my cane !!! Now where the hells my Metamucil???

  • @Shoogle Look, I can relate to you. Here's my advice. Stop complaining about the scene and get around to actually doing something! If you do that, you could actually make an impact, and be viewed as someone who actually tried to do something with the goth scene.

  • @vanuaturocks Yes do something, but don't forget the underground roots of the scene.

  • @Shoogle Be your own person, don't give a fuck what others think of you. If they are saying that shit about you, then they're the ones that are the real poseurs.

  • @Shoogle THANK YOU!!! JESUS FUCKING CHRIST

This guy on the one iof the goth rock comment videos Garden od Delight - Agony keeps calling me a poser cause I like Type O Negative. You know what the elders is 2 stuck up on them selves they hate the new goth rock bands especially The 69 Eyes. They're the ones who prevent Gothrock from going into it's earlly grave. But we're posers 4 liking H.I.M., Lacrimas Profundere, Type O Negative etc...

  • @Shoogle This is the main reason the scene doesn't have it's unity like before. With that other scenes such as scene or emo is fading us out. This shit needs to stop

  • @Shoogle We need this unity 2 bring back the goth scene back on its feet and bring back The Bat Cave

  • @Shoogle im in your boat. im a deathrocker and im truely starting to hate ebm.

  • @Shoogle Well-said. I'm a kid who radio DJ's more of a goth-ROCK sound.. and it's so difficult trying to separate my show from getting mixed up with the industrial show at our station.

  • @Shoogle As long as your trying to bring the music to the masses and make it top 40's pop mainstream, I would agree with their judgemental ethics.

  • @Shoogle Don't worry, you're not alone(: Those people that choose to use the word 'poser', clearly have no wisdom to share.

  • @Shoogle

Nevermind what they say. If you like goth, then you are goth. Doesn't matter when you were born. Keep spreading the word. We need it

    cheers

  • @gothiciris

    Exactly.

  • @Shoogle You're a Baby Bat that's judging people of my generation with blanket statements, not too smart IMO. I've actually had FAR too many of your generation telling me that "you're too old to be Goth". I don't care who you are, blanket statements make you sound like a fool. Just STFU, & enjoy the music for a change!

  • @loveunderlaw I generally agree, but it's good that there are baby bats that are actually interested in goth music for a change :P

  • @Shoogle dont worry i went to a christian death shw in 1994, (i was 10) now i know his older bro , i even have some ashes, and personal jewlery, note i was born im 84 im only 26 years of rot

  • @Shoogle

*NEVER* let anyone change how passionate you feel about something...... The old will eventually be replaced by the young.........

  • @Shoogle : I think what your trying really do here is not bring The SOM back to The Black Planet but bringing the exciting, and monumentous glory and valor of the rest of the underground movement/PASSION during that time.. . Sucess of an a UNDERGROUND scene is based on ALL diliances and definaces of the accepted or the norm while still honoring/being knowledgable of the hard push that came before.Jesus Loves The Sisters... and Spiggy rides again for all of the understanding it's worth!!

  • @Gloomshadow1 I also used to write off the early 90's bands as a bunch of lame Sisters rip-offs but have had a serious change of heart in recent years. Hell, bands like The Wake, Rosetta Stone, and Big Electric Cat were far better than The Mission ever were! In all fairness, the kids at "goth" clubs today aren't really listening to industrial music; just try asking them about SPK, Factrix, or Z'EV and see how confused they become. Also, the "cybergoth" look is beyond awful.

  • @marvalbertlovesyou yeah Cyber is for people that want to dress up but dont have the balls to return to the roots of Goth bc the mens goth fashion had an effeminate edge to it. But most of the Goths that actually looked and acted that way were far from feminine, we were all closet "poon hounds" ha ha ha

  • Great goth song from a great goth band from the 90s. It doesn't seem that long ago though;)

  • Where was this filmed? IT looks kind of like mexico but not sure?

  • Yes, it´s Mexico

  • muah pretty very siouxish.. thumbs up..

  • Yeah, this band was from Ohio. Very Sisters-ish. The other 'The Wake' were a band from Manchester on Factory Records in the '80s. I have that LP.

Also good, kind of Joy Division-y.

  • The (UK) Wake were from Glasgow formed by ex Altered Image guitarist Caesar, they also had Bobby Gillespie, now of Primal Scream in their ranks for a wee while. They toured with New Order and were on Factory.

  • This song is great! I own the "Masked" CD and I love it. This video makes me feel proud cause it was filmed in the Spanish and Aztec landmarks of Mexico City, and I'm Mexican. The Wake is a one of the best bands I've ever heard.

  • Cool, but if the Wake is one of the best bands you've heard you should really listen to more gothic rock and darkwave. These guys sound a lot like Sisters of Mercy. Not saying they're bad or anything just derivative, I actually like them a lot. Been getting into the March Violets lately they were on the Sisters label in the early years and are more original sounding IMHO.

  • Where did you buy the cd? I can't find anything by them.

  • Ha, ha ha! Well, I don't own the CD to be honest, but a friend of mine lend it to me a long time ago (5 years ago, I think) and I copied the songs to my PC. I've been looking for their albums too, but no result. 4 years ago (or something like that) I saw the "Nine Ways" album in a record store here in Mexico, but had no money. A couple of weeks later, I went again to the store, and the CD wasn't there anymore. Is difficult to find this albums, cause they're out of print or something. Contact me.

  • google it

  • If i heard this on the radio, i whould think it was Eldritch, wow... pretty intense.

  • buena cancion, pero se parece demasiado a Sister of Mercy
