At first I thought this was going to be hilariously crappy, but wow, this is actually pretty legitimately neat. Some people really take that theremin seriously!
Hey Thomas, just thought I'd say hello. Watching this video reminds me of what a good time that was when I was visiting Jackson, Mississippi. Hope this finds you doing well and still playing the heck out of the theromen. Cheers.
@Boutdonow14 HI, I am indeed still playing the theremin like crazy. Yeh, that was a great visit. :) Hope you get to make it back this way again. Take care, and keep on jammin' ! :)
Just out of curiosity, are you improvising in this video? I'm thinking about getting my own theremin, but I'm afraid the applications may be somewhat limited. I play the alto saxophone as well as another little-known electronic gem called the Stylophone, and while I can (and have) played classical pieces, I much prefer jazz, especially improv.
Theremins are electronic. The tone generating oscilators are controlled by our interactions with a radio-magnetic-electrical field which surrounds the two antennas.
The resulting tone is output to a speaker or amp via the audio cable.
The oscilators produce sound by means of "heterodyning" (differing energies). One oscilator beats at 200K b/sec. The other a few b/sec off. The combination of the UHF tones produces a VLF tone we can hear between 20 to 8 Khz.
Regretably, this 20 minute video is all that remains of 3 hours worth of jam session in the studio which we attempted to record. The cameras were brand new, and unbenounced to me, the batteries in the cam overide the AC adaptors, so they were never on AC, just batteries which were dead, so we only got a few minutes per clip which is why this video is the way it is. At least we have this to enjoy.
Talent! I'm surprised - quite a few times the acoustic guitar and theremin complemented each other nicely. I wonder how many other thereminists have done something like this before, mixing their uncommon instrument and talent with that of a more "mainstream" instrument. I've often thought of how I could add a didgeridoo, myself being a player...
Bringing the Theremin up from the background and into the mainstream. Very nice Thomas. This is a really tight collab you guys have going. Very nice! :)
great jam session, great musicians, great music...now i'll wait a 2 theremin jam session with the other great thereminist pekkanini...thank you for this fantastic video
Thanks. It was a LOT of fun. My only regret is that the cameras batteries were not fully charged. At least we have this much of the 2, and a half hours that we spent jamming. ;)
Are there any videos of people playing the Theremin fast on youtube?

@videolizzard99 Yes. I was improvising here. The theremin can work just as well in jazz, as it can in classical, and other genres. :)
