yeah Nas is no freestyler, he is a writer. He can WRITE a battle track probably better than anyone alive today though, but in a freestyle he would lose. I've heard nas try and freestyle and it wasn't pretty.

ALL rapper write their freestyles. ALLLLL. Jayz, biggie, big L, Jadakiss, tupac was horrible at freestyle. I guess you never heard nas freestyle..go listen to his eye for eye freestyle. Only great no writing freestylers are Redman and methodman..and they also repeat their freestlyes so its equivalent to writing the shit. Ed lover and tiga also freestyle pretty good but they sound like kiddie raps..

Exactly, originally freestyle was a way to describe a rhyme that didn't have any particular subject matter or style. Listen to Big Daddy Kane and Master Ace and youll see what is meant. You dudes don't know your history. You let MTV tell you that freestyle is strictly off the head. Not so. Ask any old school head from New York like KRS, Master Ace, Kane, etc... and they will tell you what a freestyle is.

Understanding wasn't a freestlye, it was a left over track from Illmatic, replaced by It Ain't hard to Tell. Nas really can't freestyle at all, hes horrible at freestyling and has admitted that it "isn't his thing". Nas is a writer, and a DAMN good one at that.
