Nice Snake, I have tons of questions. My 3 ball pythons are in glass aquariums, but I want to move them to plastic tub, what size would be acceptable for an adult. and are heat mats ok or will it burn through the plastic. Also Im getting a columbian Red tail boa at an expo soon, What size cage should I get for an adult It will be a male. Custom enclosure, wood, what size feet.
@chicagocubs2124 the mimimum size cage for a male is 4' x 2' x 2' but remember the bigger the cage the better so you can fit like hides and branches and stuff so i think a 6' x 2' x 2 vision cage would be good as males get 6-7 ft and i wouldnt do a heat mat id suggest using flexwatt heat tape

@MrRavekid I doubt they would dare ban large snakes in the U.K. There are about 8 million reptiles in the U.K but we don't seem to have as much of a problem with escaping large constrictors or death by constrictors as they do in other countries. As far as I know there have been no known human deaths by common boas, I don't no about bcc's though. Also it is much more difficult for snakes to survive in the U.K in the wild.

I doubt you had a Burmese python if you would mistake a boa for a Burmese. They are entirely different. I have both and there is no getting them mixed up.

@moshstradamus at 4ft he should be eating rats. Make sure they are equal to the snakes girth, though. 2-3 mice is nowhere near enough for a 2 week basis.
so i have heard from some people that you should feed them from a post and let them strike the mouse/rat from above to simulate there hunting from trees. I just place my boa in a box with the mouse. what do you do ?

I found a redtail today on the street (I live in Costa Rica) And its about 7 feet long but only about 10 pounds, its a very slim boa, and I'm not planning on feeding it for another 8 days.
I think it has escaped from one of my neighbors, so I'm not really getting stuff ready to keep it for another few weeks since some one will possibly come looking for it.
Its beautiful and looks healthy, but most red tails are really thick compared to this one, I'm a bit worried.
Hmm... No I'm pretty sure it's a red tail, its not as thin as a BCI and its longer then 7 feet, but I weighed myself with it on top of me and it was around 10 pounds.
It is large if you are certain it's a male. If not 100% sure you should have it probed as was mentioned females do grow larger, but males can and certainly do get as big as yours and bigger. Nice snake anyhow.
its no sometimes referred to as a common boa. People are often sold common boa's by pet stores under the name Columbian Red Tail Boa to get people to buy them.

red tail boa males usually only grow to a max of 7ft, 8ft if u powerfeed them but you dont wanna do that and females usually 9-10 ft any higher its cause you powerfeed..
I only kno? one snake lover, and he never explained why he was one, so I'll ask you. They aren't like mammal pets. I doubt that you can interact with them and get back the kind of affection you get from a cat or dog. So what's the attraction.
It all depends on what kind of animal you like. This isn't my pet but in my house we have a dog, a cat, 6 mice, and four birds. None of which I like... at all. In my room I keep a 3 ft. Savannah monitor and a baby redtail. You don't need the animal to lick and kiss and love you. Some people are just... into it... and I'm not going to lie... every one is scared of my pets.
i just got a 7 1/2ft female rtb and the second day i had her she bit me on my face,no warnig or a sign that she was pissed, usually the bigger sized snakes are pretty unpredictible sometimes.and she is like the sise of your boa too.
He was in a large stock tank (watch video toby and his cage) I now keep him in a 8X3X4 cage until I finishg a new cage since the stock tank is now being used for another 'gator. I'm currently working on a 20X4X4 cage for him as his life long set up. I have a lot of new videos that I need to upload.

Sounds like its a BCI, rather than a real red tailed. They stay bit slimmer, and smaller. It May be a male rather than female as well.

it can but since i had her she never bite me becuz when i feed her i just throw the mice in her tank, i never put my hands on her food... and once i finish throwing her food, i wash my hands and i dont hold her till a couple of days..

gorgeous! i have one too :D his name is phil he only has one eye..got bit by a rat cuz the people that we rescued him from had fed him live rats instead of frozen and obviously it was too big or somethin idk but it bit him

red tail boa males usually only grow to a max of 7ft, 8ft if u powerfeed them but you dont wanna do that and females usually 9-10 ft any higher its cause you powerfeed..

Jayjay, actually some bci specimens from Brazil can grow bigger than 15 feet. But your standard boa will top at 10 or 11ft.

I only kno? one snake lover, and he never explained why he was one, so I'll ask you. They aren't like mammal pets. I doubt that you can interact with them and get back the kind of affection you get from a cat or dog. So what's the attraction.

It all depends on what kind of animal you like. This isn't my pet but in my house we have a dog, a cat, 6 mice, and four birds. None of which I like... at all. In my room I keep a 3 ft. Savannah monitor and a baby redtail. You don't need the animal to lick and kiss and love you. Some people are just... into it... and I'm not going to lie... every one is scared of my pets.

i just got a 7 1/2ft female rtb and the second day i had her she bit me on my face,no warnig or a sign that she was pissed, usually the bigger sized snakes are pretty unpredictible sometimes.and she is like the sise of your boa too.

He was in a large stock tank (watch video toby and his cage) I now keep him in a 8X3X4 cage until I finishg a new cage since the stock tank is now being used for another 'gator. I'm currently working on a 20X4X4 cage for him as his life long set up. I have a lot of new videos that I need to upload.
