Ford Thunderbird Timeline (1955-2005)

I got a 71 T-Bird, same bodystyle, hubcaps, and vinyl roof as that first one on "70s".  Mine's light green, with dark green roof and interior. Pointed bird-beak front end, 429 V8, electric windows, seats, mirror (singular--there's no pass. side mirror), very spacious rear seat and trunk. The doors are very heavy and substantial. The car has plenty of power, no hesitation at all. I love these kinds of cars. I'm old enough to remember, as a kid, seeing them on the road and in use.

What a miserable car. Released in 1955, like Chevrolet's Corvette, how in the world did Ford lose its way with this stupid barge? Look at 1955 T-Bird & 1955 Corvette. You can see that they were competitors; contemporaries! How did Thunderbird get so overweight while Corvette remained our Nation's performance benchmark - performance value OF THE WORLD. If you like '70s era Ford Thunderbirds, then you're also very fond of RUST ...

I have a 1976 Thunderbird with the 460 under the hood :-) Great car. I have owned it for 8 years now, funny thing is i was born in 1978 lol :-) but to be honest,the models from `63 to `66 are the best looking.

about 1992,had a 77 given to me, 'if you can get it outta here its yours. had been sitting yrs in same spot, new battery and some fresh gas and off she went, big beast, loved it, but engine locked up. no full time job and not much car knowhow. sadly scrapped it.

I had a 71 when I was 21. 429 Thunderjet / 360 HP. My girlfriend and I would cruise just to cruise. Regretted selling it.

It took me 35 years of searching but found the same white on white with only 34K. Now my girlfriend / wife put in a eight track and cruise just to cruise.

My most favorite era of the T-Bird's are 1961-66 and my least favorite era of the T-Bird's was 1980-82, they looked too much like a luxury version of a Ford Fairmont and they were horribly underpowered

Ford stopped making T-birds between '76 and '83. '77-'79 are rebadged Torinos with Thunderbird script and underpowered engines. '80-'82 are rebadged Fairmonts with even more underpowered engines (6 cylinders!). Even the more recent ones still can't compare to the ones '76 and earlier. They were just finally diluted out of existence.

I have a beautiful Brittany Blue 65 with 39,000 original miles. The paint is faded pretty bad and there are a few dings in it but the interior is awesome. The engine is strong but needs a tune up and some exhaust work.

Hey badgerbuddy, you ever hear the story of how they once accidentally put Continental Mark IV badges on Thunderbirds, and vice versa, at the Wixom plant sometime back in the Seventies? Funny story. Anyway, good timeline vid. Nice cars many of those T-birds were, the older ones had some pretty snazzy interiors. I know these get a lot of flack, but I do really like the 1970-71 'Bunkie beak' T-birds, those had nice lines.

My favourite Thunderbirds are the 1967, 1968 and 1969 models, including the 4-door cars. Those three model years are the BEST Thunderbirds !!

The 70's and early 80's T birds Sucked. The 50's and 60's they were like Super Lux making Buiks ann Pontiacks looking like crap. I liked the 89's on up, but they weren't considered anything special after 10 years of ugly T Birds. My B in Law had a '58, bought new for 35 years!

I own a 1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. One thing thats funny about that car, is that it says "thankyou for not Smoking-healy ford" on the ash tray (that kind of defeats the purpose)
