  • everytime my friends listen to lady gaga, lmfao and all the other shitty music i put on steely dan on my ipod and i feel relaxed

  • when you have TRUE talent, this is what it sounds like.

  • anybody who knows music that hits the soul the way steely dan does knows that this is a priveledge to hear.....no one will ever compare to the genuis sound that was created when these two got together..its music at its best!!!!

  • Oh My Gadd!!!!!!!!!!

  • Only 17,000 hits wake up yall all time top 15 musical groups ,Named my baby after the song

  • Simply put...True musicians in every sense of the word. From Lyric to performance. I was blessed to see them in concert.

  • Credit goes to Melegorm/Morcaiden for the video.

  • masterpiece!

  • the first few minutes of this song nearly made me cry :')

  • ...fantastic to see the coments around this song....'ajarachelle' , best!! and 'maybelle' listening to Steely Dan with 7 years old.... and for me this band will always be a blow of fresh air. So long ago since I last heard it...grew up with it...now after all these years and travellings around the globe....this magic music joins me again. Thanks guys! )loved 'Those of My Kind' !)

  • steve gadd makes me want to play drums and I'm i die hard guitar player

  • its amazing how much a really good drummer can impact a song

  • @220friend My Dad always told me that the drummer is the most important guy in the band. A good drummer can make a mediocre band sound great while a bad drummer can ruin a great band.

  • Listening to Steely Dan is like washing my soul clean of the daily crap. They are my personal intimate Norton anti-virus!!!

  • Greetings to Those of My Kind.

  • The amazing thing about Gadd in this is that he sight read this and recorded it in two takes. There was an article from Modern Drummer magazine in 1992 that confirmed it. I have a quote from it: "For 'Aja' Gadd sightread the entire seven-minute chart perfectly, solo and all, by the second take. An article at the time quoted Fagan as saying, "I was stunned. No one had ever done anything like that before. I couldn't believe it."

  • idk y but this song reminds me of a cemetary, but i still love steely dan!!!!!

  • soulless.

  • The absolute best Steely Dan song ever. Kudos to Steve Gadd

  • Best of the best!

  • Oh yeah. I was taught this by my older brother, he had a million albums, then that sensibility was reinforced by my jazz fusion pianist husband. That spanned a lot of years, right there. :)

Steely Dan always has been and always will be my favorite. D Fagan and W Becker. You nailed it!

  • Dad, thank you for making me listen to this album when I was seven... Now I recognize how much of a genius you always were... RIP LWH....

  • @mayabelle1107 damn, My daddy too taught me the ways of Steely Dan and may he too R.I.P. 2/12/09 Miss him DEARLY!!

  • @Phinfan9570 but I knew it long before he passed... He knew know matter what direction I went... it was sure where I came from :O)

  • @mayabelle1107 so sweet a message…I bow to you...

  • Aja is the epitome of tasteful arrangement and has some of the best drumming i've ever heard.

I remember having mixed feelings; it certainly was seductive but seemed so polished and slick compared to their earlier, raw sound. Now, after 30+ yrs, it's a masterpiece.

  • I have a friend named Nick , and I think this may mellow him out .

  • @ajarachelle-- I knew a girl who was named the same way. Y'all should form a club.

  • my faverate steely dan song nothing like it it takes me home every i hear it.

  • Bands don't seem to evolve or change musically any more. The magnificent Steely Dan did, the later jazz influenced stuff sounds so different from, say, Can't Buy A Thrill. All in the shift of five years, like The Beatles changing from Please Please Me to The White Album (sic) in the same space of time.

  • @Crochetify I was thinking just the same thing. The progression of Steely Dans music (albums) reminds of the Beatles.

  • i used to hate it, but now i appreciate it for it's uniqueness.

  • i love this song it reminds me of my teen years

  • this song is where i got my name......

  • @ajarachelle WOW, ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS NAME WAS AJA, AND THIS WAS ONE OF HER FAVORITE SONGS.....XOXO RIP AJA

  • @ajarachelle my parents had a cat i grew up with named after her too. She was a gorgeous apple-head Siamese.

  • @Jaxshun WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE FUCKING CAT HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @NatoriousGmc maybe ppl who arent buttheads such as u

  • Very nicely put together. My compliments to the poster :)

  • @Torquil1000

The poster didn't put it together. He/she acknowledges that as well, above. This montage is from someone who still lives on YouTube under a different name than the one he went by when he put this up.

  • Absolutely magnificent
