@sasa110 ..They're both composed in the ragam Reethigowla, and it is one of those very characteristic ragams, as in the phrases and structures become very recognizable after a while.
@ashwinrohin - beautiful rendition... but disappointed that the video does not include the whole song. iLayaraja has used this ragam on several occassions as well. Well known movie song (of yesteryears) in rItigauLa is "cinna kaNan azhaikirAn rAdhaiyai..." sung by Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna and the song "talaiyai kuniyum tAmaraiyE" sung by S. P. Balasubramanian.
Superb singing by shri balasubramanian.very captivating voice.Authentic carnatic music indeed.Great accompaniment by the artistes. Well done...

Very nice performance, great voice, but there were some deviations in the gamakas and slight changes in shruti.

The ragam is ritigauLA. It is not anywhere near Arabhi. Samaja vara gamana is hindolam.
Aro: S G2 R2 G2 M1 N2 D2 M1 N2 N2 S
Ava: S N2 D2 M1 G2 M1 P M1 G2 R2 S
Other famous compositions in the ragam: dvaitamu sukhama, nannu vidachi, baale baalendu, janani ninnu vina, etc..
For the film music fans out there, look up "Azhagaana Rakshasiye" by A.R. Rahman, it is also based on Ritigaula.
