please tell me your cymbal setup, they all sound amazing. I know you have an 22" a custom ping ride, an a custom crash, and what looks like an avedis crash, but what kind are your china and hi-hats?
@glitchhacker101 Check out my newest video, "August Drum Experimentation." In that video I have a Remo Black X and Puresound 50-strand snare wires. It's got a much better sound. Also, brass snares don't generally have as much "pop" to them. The Reference wood snare has much more "pop" and much less "ring." I think you might like it.
@glitchhacker101 in this video u can couldnt distinguish a reference from a forum snare. camera mic and head have a lot to do with it, the Aquarian hi energy is an extremely muffled snare head. if you could play a reference in person u would hear how good they can sound.
@glitchhacker101 I know what you mean, i think the problem is the actual snare wire where the middle is slacker ( or is it tighter) than the edge, the actual drum should sound great when fitted with standard wires
hey man this is not bad at all . danny carey is one of my favorite drummers too. i'v been thinking about getting a reference snair for awhile. how do you like yours?
@MetalGuitarist457 Danny Carey is my number one influence. This snare is absolutely amazing. Get a Remo Black X and feel the true power of this snare (you can also visit Travis Orbin's channel [Youtube account = shaftninja] for lots of studio- and home-recorded samples). You can really get a Carey sound with snares off; even more so than the Sonor DC signature model IMO (I did an in-store comparison between the two). Hope this helps, and keep drumming!
amazing snare dude, how much did you get it for and where? I'd kill to get this thing except I can't find it anywhere and I don't want to pay more than 600$ for it...
@GishEagle Got it for about $650 all together through Stebal Drums in Willowick, Ohio. They're a 5-Star Drum Shop. If there's one of these around you, definitely get it from there since they take 50% off and order straight from the factory. It's pricey, but SO worth it. I now have a Remo Black X and Puresound 30-strand wires on it, and the sound is amazing. Check out Travis Orbin's videos (Youtube name "shaftninja") for a good taste of how this set-up sounds with this snare!
@Crazyfishyyy Thanks! It's gotten even more weird since I've made this video. I really like experimenting with different set-ups because it's so refreshing. Now I have my two high toms on the left and two low ones on my right side. My ride cymbal is right in front of me so that I can play it with both my hands and to make room for my soon-to-be right foot hi hat stand. :D I'll be posting a video with this set-up soon. I like your videos and set-up by the way!
nice one sounds like lots of fun! thats not my set up in those vids thats a friend of mines ill be posting drum covers soon tho check'em out if you can!
@MarvinMoshaka Wow, he certainly does have an interesting setup! I should have another video up in the next week or so with a cool groove idea I had using the Fibonacci sequence. I'll explain when the vid is up. :)
It was basically the out-of-the-box tuning with the stock head. It's crap. The high-end overtones were too much. I've since gotten a Remo Emperor X on it, and it sounds great! It allows the actual drum sing, rather than the head. I'll make another video soon!
Nice paradiddles!
