@HippehMac I do expect Xeons, I use them in my home servers, it's not like Xeons cost lots more than consumer grade anyway. If you're going to call something a server, it need not look pretty, nor shall it contain consumer grade products.

That setup is a great machine but it sucks so badlly because of the operating system.

What version of windows server 2008 r2 are you using? standard? enterprise? data center? I have been looking at the prices as im too wanting to get my hands dirty with network. user account, shared memory for users etc... By the looks of it the Op is going be the most expensive part in the build

My Windows Server installed default with Windows 7 Basic, and I was able to turn Aero on right away.. Dunno why, I must not of had the same version or was using an Release Candidate or something.

Perhaps I'm just different, but I'm putting together my own home server using Ubuntu 10.10, but I'm running into some problems; I'm sure a few of them are just because I'm not familiar with Linux.

Thanks for sharing the video only two things i would have done different is the fans, not out of not liking noctua (i have 4 noctua fans), but becuase of the theme, i would gone with Scythe Typhoon, they are black with white/grey blades, and as good or better than noctua fans, but with better colors to match this rig. And i would install an intel pcie gigabit lan card, specially for a server.

Dude i need you help, i want to use a Noctua NH-D14 on my new mobo with an i7 860, but it seems that i will cover the first pci express slot.... Any suggestions of a cooler or what to do? The mobo is an asrock p55 extreme....

Those Noctua fans are really ugly. Can't you get some paint on them? I would never ever put fans like that into my case - no matter how good they are. I'm using Scythe Gentle Typhoon fans in my rig. at lease they have a black frame, and honestly, I'd say they are better fans as well.
