the fact of the matter is that it is extremely likely that Tomas can do ALL the stuff jordison and lars do on drums, and probably do it better. His speed, even if you're just going by Bleed, is phenomenal. His grasp of rhythm is incredible, that even being used to Meshuggah's odd rhythms won't help you when they throw another curve ball. He's got serious metal chops and serious chops in general. That's why i love this guy. He's different.

Well, Haake actually insists that everything he plays is 4/4. Better still, I managed (after lots of practice) to count through all the dazzling polyrhythmic stuff, only to found out that the damn guy was right xD
All I can say is how? Honestly! I sit here trying to figure out the timing for the intro and I cannot get it into my head! It's ridiculous-- It sounds so off but it isn't! He is crazy amazing. The only parts that I can get is when the intro ends and he is just on the short chorus.

@T3ddisen Basically, he plays quarters on whatever cymbal, and a snare hit on every 3rd beat, which really is a basic 4/4 quarter note beat. He just comps the rhythm of the bass guitar on the bass drum while playing that. Tip: Get intro to Lethargica stuck in head. Then, on a piece of paper, draw two x's, a line, and another x. Play bass drum part, and quarters on the x's, whenever you hit the line, its a reminder for a snare hit. Thats how I learned lol. Works best bored in history class

Well, Haake actually insists that everything he plays is 4/4. Better still, I managed (after lots of practice) to count through all the dazzling polyrhythmic stuff, only to found out that the damn guy was right xD

All I can say is how? Honestly! I sit here trying to figure out the timing for the intro and I cannot get it into my head! It's ridiculous-- It sounds so off but it isn't! He is crazy amazing. The only parts that I can get is when the intro ends and he is just on the short chorus.

just got done checking out animals as leaders periphery sikth and architects they're nothing compared to meshuggah. they are all trying to achieve meshuggah's sound and failing miserably at it. there will only be one meshuggah no other band will be able to duplicate their music

@jaydendrums111 No seriously. He just plays 4/4 but he puts the snare and bass where it fits according to the bass line. Ofcourse the 1 isn't always marked in all measures but that's because of the rhythm. But he counts to 4, I've met him personally and he told me that when I asked him.

@T3ddisen Basically, he plays quarters on whatever cymbal, and a snare hit on every 3rd beat, which really is a basic 4/4 quarter note beat. He just comps the rhythm of the bass guitar on the bass drum while playing that. Tip: Get intro to Lethargica stuck in head. Then, on a piece of paper, draw two x's, a line, and another x. Play bass drum part, and quarters on the x's, whenever you hit the line, its a reminder for a snare hit. Thats how I learned lol. Works best bored in history class

I dunno, I can headbang to these songs easily, I think they are the best headbanging band in the world, honestly i think people who cant headbang to this band are the ones who say meshuggah is "math metal". their rhythms are only complex to the people who just dont get it! man...stick with Tool you overcomplicated people LOL!

@klearlykahmerican Well, it's all centered around a 4/4 rythm, and they just play with rythms all around a 4/4 time, however if you were to analize it you'd have to get heavily into polyrythms, which are what people refer to with "math".

You've got a point.
Lyle Cooper of the Faceless is just fucking phenominal. Groove and chops all day. I'd love to see Thomas play some type of progressive metal, similar to an Animals as Leaders type of thing, hes got the off time grooves for it.
