Man... you're just amazing!!! Great personality, and your passion for music really comes through the screen!!! On my way to listen/watch more of your videos!
Great video bro! I like the session man! I played the snare & bass drum in middle school. I got to really get into the keyboard production side for real! Your video is inspirational. I chop vinyl at the moment. This is the other level peace!
I like that groove in the beginning of the video! You can add one more chord before going back to C. Left hand chord would be: F-B-Eflat....Right hand chord would be: Aflat-C#-F....and the bass player would hit G.
Why don`t you develop a sample Cd with the best neo soul licks for sample based producers who works with an mpc ...or a harmonizer with tipical piano chords harmonies?!!!!!
@AZGADA I would rather teach producers how to actually create and play their own music. The market is over-saturated with sample chops. I want to bring the musicianship back to music, by teaching producers how to actually play their own harmonies and chords.
Hey Jamal ..... Is there any way I could get that track ( starting on 7:31- 8:44) on CD or something.... That's real cool Neo-Soul ... something I could just listen to while taking a drive ....... Please let me know....... Thanks
@madara435 Did you watch the ENTIRE video, in particular, at time 9:20 that says EASY THEORY! We lay out all of the chords for beginners and teach you how to form the chords easily, then you move to the DVD to learn the chords.
@madara435 I don't have the money for it either. I just take advantage of the resources that they have on youtube and make the best of it. It'll definitely be a lot easier if we had a DVD to watch the entire thing. GospelMusicians gives snippets of the DVD that is helpful, even though it's not the entire dvd. Other than that we can only do what we can doc.
hey I'm trying out the midi keyz trial period and man I already feel like I've arrived. I just wish I new some trustworthy gospel and R&B midi download sites.
I have a cheap one that I just use with logic over usb and that works but it isn't very realistic playing on a cheap unweighted keyboard...if you know what I mean.
Just bought this today and let me say lesson 2 is worth the $50 alone! I loaded up Jamstix 3 with a nice neo-soul groove, selected the Rhodes preset on my Clavinova and jammed all night!
I just bought this today. I gained a lot from the boonie mayfield part of the dvd. I say that only because many of the major/minor ninth concepts I already know. But overall I think its a great dvd to buy. Thanks!
y does this dude always tease us with is greatness by playin somethin crazy for like 15 seconds nd leaves us hanging. it makes my stomach hurt frm 00:13 to 00:45
Fantastic player, works with fantastic players, feel is unstoppable. But when it comes to organized education video, it needs alot more work. If he gets a professional music education consultant involved these will be the ONLY R&B/Soul education videos to buy.
@halfasemitone I agree I have a lot of his stuff he knows his stuff but hard for newbies to follow. Griggs stuff is easier to follow but we all love Jamal's style.
The positive is, there is no DVD set out there that has these genres covered. The feel of the musicians is amazing, the best in anything education related. But, you can find many videos on youtube of players at this caliber just playing.
I have most of Jamals DVD's. Here's the scoop. From a teachers perspective, these aren't made for beginners who don't listen to anything jazz or soul.
@legatoman Click on the link in the description to purchase the DVD. It comes with the chorded sheet music, score, video instruction, and MIDI so you can learn every single thing that I'm doing.
Hey Jamal, you really brought the goods on this dvd!!! You should follow this format from now on with all the sheet music and midi files embedded on the dvd. It really helps before and after the lessons! 5stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing!! I like this stile, but I can't find neo-soul musicians. I would listen to something similar. Help me, please) When can I download such musicians' mp3?
hey i really dig your sound and i love your playing. i have been playing for two years strong now. i can read and i know all 12 major and minor scales by memory and i know how to make any chord like 7ths and 9ths from memory. i fiddle with the keyboard everyday because i adore music. i really want to advance and learn to make up my own progressions and what not. i listen to every genre too. With all that being said, i would like to know if you realy go into great depth on this dvd?
Sweet chords, and that's all you need- bass, drums and keyboard. Im trying to find some guys I can groove with like this. This is exactly the style I love! Jazz gospel/ neo soul.
That was so beautiful, this is what I'm into. Those smooth Dwele sounding chords. Just watching the fingering, it seems like Jamal is playing the chord with his left hand and the right is improvising chords in the scale??
God bless you, Jamal. I'm a keyboard player since my childhood and have formal music education, however, I've never played the organ. I want to learn some organ techniques to use them in the gospel band I play with. What should I do? Where can I find some instructional videos or lessons about organ playing in gospel? Thanks.
Okay so Im waiting on the SF2 (soundfonts) or a Jamel Hartwell Rhodes or MKS 20 Piano VSTi to be used in Reason, Abelton, FL Studio, etc...you can do it Jamal!!!
@MsBeatJunkie Where have you been? We already have the Reason format of the MKS-20 and we are working on the Neo-Soul Rhodes. You need to go to our website to sign up for the mailing list, so you can keep up with what we are doing.
@vowarrior1 All of the MIDI is there and the sheet music. You just go to the chapter and choose which chapter and which movement and all of the MIDI and the sheet music is there. It's just not on the screen, because it's very hard to find a MIDI Rhodes and you can't quite do a Neo-Soul DVD without a real Rhodes.
@ChristFan868 Any musician can use any piece of theory or technique as long as they understand it. If you understand it and can apply it, then yes of course you can use it. Music isn't about rules man, its about soul.

@GospelMusicians hey man i dont really understand where boonie gets those beautiful sounds from, i got komplete 7 and i aint really finding anything, well i just got it and barely know how to navigate it at this moment, can u tell me of some good software or vsts thanks
@HighFlight09 If you got Komplete 7, you should be straight! lol. Native Instruments have some of the best sounds out for software today with prices that are affordable... and I use a TON of Native Instruments sounds in my tracks... in fact, I probably use Kontakt sounds the most. The other sounds I was using in this vid were just some of the stock sounds in Logic. The key to it is adding effects. Putting some reverb... filters.. tremelo... delays... digital amps & pedals etc. when needed.
man ur vids help me out now ive been coming up wit sum chords which be turning sum heads dey be like man gimme da chord......dnt get me wrong i knew sum of deez chordz but there is so many though lol
Theory would say you only have 1 one each letter note in a key... so it would be F#, G#, A. Otherwise it would have to be Gb Ab Bbb. And double flatting is nonsensical...
@DiamondUrine Unless of course you're modulating on each chord. Still there's always an underlying key, and that should be where you determine you chord names/letter names from.
