My Dad's work burned down because of the built of the building and no sprinklers. If the Firefighters weren't trained in knowing how to contain such a large and hot fire, (caused by a lithium battery blowing up, and they catch fire at 1000+ degrees) it would have spread throughout the town. Firefighters ROCK! I know I wouldn't have been able to do that...

In Britain we don't really hail firefighters as heroes. They put out a fair few chip pan fires in the 70's but since then it's mostly been school kids setting bins on fire. Hardly the sort of stuff you could make a multimillion dollar patriotic film about.

@3424lauren no, firefighters do get something. They are well respected by everyone. Firefighter is the worlds most trusted job. It's also one of the hardest jobs to do. We do get something, and that's appreciation by everyone.

I liv in England, where there is a horrible recession on, where my mother has lost her job and we can't even go to the lake district for a week to get away. So yes firefighters in ENGLAND should get more.

@3424lauren I too used to live in England where I was a volunteer firefighter there until I moved to Canada. The firefighters there are underpaid. I agree with you that they should be paid more.

Abso-freakin-lutely. Firefighters, EMS, and other emergency responders so so severely underpaid for thejob, the risk death every single day, and recieve a pittiful paycheck. How about some professional sportsman donate a part or half of their salary to their local emergency response teams? That would be someone worth cheering for.
