He planned it all out, and was going to tell him about Madara, and why the clan slaughter happened. He loved Sasuke, and Sasu' realized that at the end.

He breaks down and CRIES awhile after as he watches the sunset.

The Uchiha's really have a sad story, it's depressing.

Itachi wasn't killed by Sasuke, he was killed by his disease AND maintaining his Susanoo with low chakra, Itachi really did beat Sasuke, and he was holding back from the very beginning, even though he was already weakened from his illness. If Itachi went at full power in the beginning of the battle, Sasuke would have been killed on the spot, with little effort

At age 12 Itachi was already well on his way on becoming ANBU captain, while Sasuke was a mere genin. That's why Itachi is much more amazing, not only that, but Itachi's true self is noble and self-sacrificing. Sasuke's true self is nothing but insane trash.
