This a well written and played song, too bad its identified with the Partridge Family. The writers and singers aren't the goofy little kids standing there with big, silly grin on their face or in the case of the little girl looking like a lobotomy patient.
The artist behind this song and other Partridge Family are real musicians. So if you can take this away from the inane show and listen to the song on its own, it quite good.
@kuhnhan - not that you're wrong in your points but you sound like the depression coming out of a black cloud. The show was great for us as kids and the music was great too - no matter who really sang behind David & Shirley.
@kuhnhan I don't think it has to be taken out of The Partridge Family context to be considered a good song. That's just musical snobbery. If it wasn't for David's vocals and sex appeal to the ladies and wannabe like him for the boys, and Susan and Shirley's sex appeal, and the whole family concept for the kids and families, these songs would never have seen the light of day. They were written FOR this show. Most real musicians have great respect for The Partridge Family's catalog of songs.
Awesome song, Wow, so refreshing to hear these songs in light of today's shit that trys to pass for music, I loved this song the video was great, the only thing inappropriate and out of place to me in this video is shirley jones outfit, its too inappropriate for those little children, it's awesome doing that, big acts should go around and sing to children with cancer, and all kinds of children and elderly and handicapped people of all ages, Carl Malone former nba player buried al little boy in
What gets me is people make fun of this today, but what do they think Madonna, Britney Spears are? They don't write or record any of their music as well.
Partridge family is fantastic, back when things were raw real pure, not plasticized infomercialized fake society like today, everything is fabricated, no originality, creativity, they try and remake every old show, song, movie, all they do is mess it up
It's little wonder this show was a phenomenon back in the day. Wes Farrell was a terrific songwriter, and the studio musicians who actually played the songs were top notch, as fully evidenced here. And of course, that golden voice.
I don't feel like such a dork, thanks for posting this great music,It's still feel good music, somebody needs to redo it and update it a little bit, I know it would sell..
Best Partridge Family song among the work of many talented people. Single mom raising a family that writes and sings together, playing in a children's hospital... If this show/song doesn't demonstrate the youth, optimism and early 70's love, then I don't know what does...still fresh today. Thanks!
Sorry I don't have time to read all the other comments, but is this from the episode when their dog chased the skunk onto their bus, and they had to keep washing and using tomato juice to erase the odor? is that why they're all dressed differently?
The partridge family was one of my 3 favorite shows when i was a boy the other 2 were dark shadows and the brady bunch..i just started listening to the partridge family again and i agree brand new me is one of the best songs
@YRNGHFAN2 This clip is from a Season 1 episode. The famous shag with bangs that gave his features perfect symmetry and proportions appeared in Season 2.
Thanks for uploading this clip Partridgefamily4ever. It's one of my favorite songs.Cool to read all the appreciative comments on this show and its music.
Oh cool thanks accually I haven't watched that episode because I'm only 12 and I just found out about the partridge family this year and started to listen 2 the songs!!!
The reason they're in costume is because their regular/concert outfits were contaminated by a skunk - if you remember this episode they encountered this skunk while out on a Family picnic prior to their concert. They had to find clothes to wear, so, on short notice the whole Family went around the hotel they were staying at and asked ANYone there if they could borrow their clothes just long enough to perform this concert at a local children's hospital.
Shirley Jones always had a wholesome, girl-next-door image, even though she won an Oscar for playing a prostitute. At 76, she's still lovely, a silver siren. Her husband talked about how wants her to pose for Playboy to show that mature women can still be sexy. I say, go for it!
David Cassidy steals the show. Sounds trippy in Stereo too. And Shirley Jones vocals won it for those kid the in the audience despite her beautiful legs.
Between the hotel and the hospital, a young boy returned Simone, the Partridge Family's dog, to them on the way to the concert. He said he couldn't smell the skunk because he had a cold. I didn't know if it was before the family had to get new clothes or were already dressed in the borrowed clothes.
shirley looks pretty . but too provocative in this episode .otherwise she is very homeley and simple in all of the other episode. mr kincaid is just dreaming
Homely doesn't necessarily mean ugly...plain, perhaps. It can mean unaffected, natural, related to the home. I think that's what BOGZASV8MA meant. You couldn't call Shirley ugly.
This was the episode where a skunk got in the bus and they spent the episode trying to get rid of the smell. All their clothes were contaminated too, but they had to play a benefit at the children's hospital, so they wrangled up some clothes from somewhere. They are also playing in the operating room because of the smell. As a 10 year old boy, I never missed an episode, especially that first season. Its amazing what you remember 38 years later.
What the.... ? Why is Shirley wearing that outfit? She looks groovy but not quite the look one puts on to visit a children's hospital. Somebody explain!
The Partridge Family Album was my first album. Me and my friends used to get together and set up a make-shift band just outside my bedroom window...I had a drum set (from Sears), my girlfriend (Barbie Emmanuel) played the guitar (tennis racket), my sister played another racket, along with a few other kids thrown in. I'd plop the PFA on the record player in the bedroom, and then run through the house to arrive outside and jump on my drums just as the guitar intro ended and the drums kicked in.
Shirely Jones and David Cassidy were the only PF members who actually sang, all the rest were studio singers and the studio band. Shirley sure looks hot in the Ring Master outfit, guess I STILL have a crush on her. The PF is actually based on a true life family, the Cowsills, whom I believe were offered the TV series, but without their real mom. Screen Gems wanted Shirley instead. The Cowsill family said no, and so the PF was casted, starting with Shirley, David and the other actors. Viva PF!
And aren't we all glad the Cowsills didn't take this gig? Not only was Shirley Jones a wonderful Broadway/screen star who I loved, but David Cassidy, as a teen, was my idol. And as an adult now, and as an avid music fan, I see what he had to offer, his producer's limitations, his schedule, read his biographies. This man has been through the mill and back again. He rocks! And I still love him, which is why I don't feel silly favoriting him at all on my channel.
I had the privilege of interviewing Danny Bonaduce and David Cassidy in Chicago 1993 David was a childhood hero of mine since Danny and I are the same age I was in the 6th grade when the show premiered. This video takes me back to the good ole days when my biggest worry was not getting caught passing notes to the girl i liked in school. Thanks for posting, great memories!
Love the fact that the '...feet are on the ground' riff is actually song by background singers John & Tom Bahler. The early days when Screen Gems were deciding weather Davids voice was suitable for the series! Great job on that video - I think this is one of the rare times that they sing the WHOLE song and not an abridged version for the series, is that correct?
Luckily for us, David Cassidy's voice was suitable. Some of the songs on the early PF episodes and the first album had Tom Bahler and John Bahler (now married to Janet Lennon of the Lennon Sisters and bandleader at the Lawrence Welk resort in Branson, MO) singing the lead, and the song, "To Be Lovers" had the Bahlers singing lead during most of the song and David singing "A Sad Oak Tree, That's Branches will not grow, A Beautiful Valley Full of Sand". Thank God David got to sing.
Love you David!

Why is Shirley dressed as a hooker at the Children's Hospital?
CandyKane1 3 years ago
They all had to borrow clothes from the people at the hotel they were at because a skunk had got into their bus and contaminated all there clothes.
They didnt have time to get new clothes before the benefit performance at the Childrens hospital.
I think Shirley got that outfit from the waitress at the cocktail lounge at the hotel.
They are also playing in the Operating Room because of the skunk smell
