BIG STEELHEAD BEST OF 2007

I fly fish a lake ontario trib called the credit river, dunno if you guys have heard of it, but this past fall i only took 2 rainbows of only about 2 lbs and i lost an 8 pounder. I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW YOU GUYS JUST POP HUGE FISH AFTER HUGE FISH, i wish i had your catch rate.

do u guys got skamania there? Our smolts in IN have a genetic problem with their gill plates developing. About 10% of them have bright red gills just hanging out. I talked 2 dnr they were puzzled.

@superkindonmymind - they stocked skamania years back but  the returns weren't good.

iv'e been noticing more steelhead with the short gill plates here too

@superkindonmymind The returns of Skamania in the lakes has been poor in the summer. But we catch a lot of them in the fall. We tell them apart from the other steelhead because many of the Skams have clipped adipose fins.

16 mile creek is a great place try out Oak Orchard WaterPort Dam nice fishing spot big ones there

Reminds me of a day I went fishing below the Scobie Hill dam. The temp that day was 7 degrees below zero F. I was near chest deep in my waders when the rock I was standing on decided it wanted to leave, so it did.

So, yea, I guess I'm in the polar bear club now. The car was only 50 yds away but when I got there my clothes were like cardboard on me. Spent 1/2 hour in the john naked at Machias laundromat while my buddies dried my clothes. After that warm beer never tasted so good...

our great lakes steelhead may not be as big as west coast fish only 6-12 lb avg but we catch 20-40 fish each per trip most days.
