I loved Ted's band when they were on Scrubs, and I only recently found out that they were a real group, but it always makes me sad to see a cappella groups doing this kind of "performance art." I know they are trying to make the experience more entertaining, but I always feel like it cheapens the experience for some reason. The didn't do this kind of stuff in Scrubs (the most I saw them do was Ted pour a pitcher of water on himself when singing Maniac), and they did just fine.
