  • ---Great Song !!!! Kudo's for posting this 70's cool song

  • I came here from Lobo's original almost skeptic but I have to say this is good too

  • @kirbygene Summer Song is a fantastic song!

  • Has it been forty years? Does not matter one bit. They absolutely nailed it. The harmonies and melodic changes still make me smile...and want to hear it again.

  • 1971 - I was twelve years old, growing in Northwest New Jersey (Mountain Lake - Warren County). enjoying life, swimming in the summer, ice skating in the winter. Life was so uncomplicated at that time.... And this music was uncomplecated too.....

  • Classic

  • I could hear this song everyday for the rest of my life and never ever tire of it. What a great song!

  • heard it when i was in my early early teens, still at home....folk rock times, they may roll back in

  • Memories of a time that seemed happier and full of possibilities because we were young. Wish I could go back for just one day!

  • loving this song...finally. wish I knew what took me so long but it's working for me now!!!

  • Well, if you're going to have only one hit why not this little gem? ... love it

  • Had this song on the very first album I ever bought, one of those 'K-Tel Sounds of Summer" things.

  • Me too bellier :)

  • I married my high school sweetheart. This was "our" song.

  • i miss the days when this song came out. I fell in love with kim smith in n.ky I still miss you after all these years. i really wish you would have never moved away to reynoldsburg oh. if you see this kim send me a msg richard3jackson@aol.com

  • thanks for posting this song

  • Sherrill This is one of your old buddy from Obion Ken Butler if you see this Please get in touch with me at Golfdaddy2003@yahoo.com

  • Thanks for the post. I was on hwy 41A between Pleasant View and Clarksville that day when we met. Well it's been 40 years ago today that we met. 8/1/71. Still love you Deb. Steve

  • I totally forgot about this song! I used to LOVE hearing it come on the radio. It always reminded me of the earlier hit by Chad and Jeremy "The Summer Song" . (when the rain beats aginst my window pane, I'll think of summer days again and dream of you) Same wistful melancholy feeling

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever ever ever!!!!

  • This was one of the BEST songs of the 1970's and the BEST version of this song, though Lobo had a close second with his version. I was 18 when this came out and still remember that summer well today. I had just graduated from high school and did not know what direction I was going in in life. Sweet mellow songs like this on the radio helped give me joy during that most difficult time. Thanks, Cymarron, for the inspiration and this very memorable song!

  • Chatauqua Lake New York summer of 1971. Best song and one of the best summer's of my life. 14 years old, Good freinds, boating, water skiing, GIRLS! and just bombing around having fun.

  • What an incredible song. Brings back memories of my first and best gf. The one who got away. So a little bittersweet listening to this....but music at its simpliest and finest. Here's to you babe, where ever you are!

  • In 1971 ..I was 20 years old...where did the time go? now I have a 20 year old daughter!

  • Such a happy song, timeless...

  • How can anyone not like this song?

  • I was 21 in 1971 remember it well,

  • This song was a constant on the radio in the summer of '71... on vacation in NH, driving from the lake to the beach picked up a couple hitchikers. Went with them to an island off the Mass/NH coastline. Hung out with them at their cottage and the neigbor girl came by and I was so smitten by her, it was unbelievable. Her last name was Ring. The two are forever linked in a very happy memory.

  • This definitely brings back the memories of the early '70s. I was just entering high school in San Antonio in '71. Heard this yesterday on kfxm.com, a great oldies station that plays a lot of stuff that nobody else does. I was so happy to hear this again--probably the first time in 20 years or more. Ah, when life seemed simpler and so full of possibilities. More stations should pick up this song and so many others that never seem to get played anymore. Glad I grew up with this kind of music!

  • @wanative57 71 was my 1st yr. of H.school too.Went to work at my uncle's horse ranch that yr.taking tourist on horseback tours of Chickamauga National Military Park (Civil War).Probably my best summer EVER(yet?).

Good to see some of us old folks still "truckin" HaH!

  • Come on in, I got James Taylor on the stereo, I'm glad you come around been feeling down, just talking to Tony and Mario. Awwwww....

  • Vive l'analogue! Music doesn't sound the same any more.

  • Love this song. I was only 7 when it came out!

  • I heard this on the radio today and it really struck me. can't stop replaying :)

  • Think real hard all you 50 somethings, doesn't this song take you back to the late Summer of 1971? As obscure as this song may be, it zones me into that exact time of my life, barely 3 months out of high school!

  • Doesn't ANYONE out there think that Cymarron sounds a little like Kenny Rogers and the First Edition? Thought it was them when I first heard this in the summer of '71. Finally downloaded it. Great pop song with a slight country feel. Refer back to riccardo8943 posted in 2009.

  • nice song

  • I can,t believe, i fianaly found this dam song--i kept remembering the -let the telephone ring-i searched everything i knew for years--this is WOrth the searching--Thanks Cymarron---

  • Thank you for posting this!!

  • @justmusicandme - and thank you for sharing, Loretta! Haven't heard this in a coon's age! :)))

  • @justmusicandme Thanks for sharing this, Loretta. Added it to 1971 in my 111 playlists for every year since 1900. Reminds me of Partridge Family style arrangements, cute bubblegummy sound! chuck

  • Kick ass song. Could not find it on itunes.

  • I totally agree with one of the posters comments that the early 1970s is the stronger half of the decade than the late 1970s when it comes to music but both eras of the 1970s are great

  • I agree with you Doobie1975. One thing about that, Elton John was rather dominant in the first half of the decade.

  • Really like this song a lot, only wish it was a minute longer, this song doesn't appear on very many compilation albums either.

  • My Angel has returned to embrace me after 35 years and I love her still.

  • One of my favorite songs from the 70s, a great time for music and a great time to be alive!

  • Rings bings back so many wonderful memories for me, I was listening to it in Tennessee on Aug 1, 1971 and ran into a car from Illinois. Met the family in it, and their 17 year old daughter, Debbie. It was love at first sight for both of us. We talked on the phone everyday for 2 weeks . I met them in Orlando, Fla. after that. We dated a couple of times and got married on Aug. 30, 1971. We went to Jettys Park every time we could. We loved the beach. Still together. I love you Deb, Steve.

  • @StevenG1953 That really is sweet . You really ran into each other ,, HA . I loved your love story . Really happy you're still together. I heard this song on Sirius Radio today & had to lookk it up . My husband & I had a short 'courtship' too . 2wks. ,been together 20yrs. 8mon. Who says whril winds don't last .{?} Just had to reply to you .

  • @connie390 Wow Thanks for your comment. Congrats on your 20 yrs. It is so strange, An hour ago We were talking over breakfast about going back to Florida for our 40 th in Aug. Well good luck and enjoy being with eachother. StevenG1953

  • @StevenG1953 Great story, Steven! I'm in Tennessee and also enjoyed this song exactly 40 years ago this week. Happy Anniversary to you and Debbie.

  • @StevenG1953 That's beautiful, Steve.

  • @StevenG1953 Awesome story, dude. Love conquers all.

  • @StevenG1953...goose pimples. What a story in itself, but I recall this song from my time as big dog" fixin to enter the sixth grade in the Fall of 71'. One year later, Summer 72', this Chicago native, moved with my family to Cocoa Beach, Florida. I walked the few blocks from homw to the beach every day that summer. I have made Tennesse the most visited state since then, visiting an older brother in Chattanooga. Small world!

  • perfection

  • Great 1 Hit Wonder...

  • Makes me smile "from the inside out!!" Good old fashioned fun, happy music.... Thank you Doug for making me look this up!!

  • These guys and Twiggy nailed this tune! Beautiful!

  • Very hard to find oldie. This song is so forgotten that it's not available on ITunes or any other music service.was 11 years old when this song was popular. Forgotten oldie but I always liked it.

  • been wondering and searching for this from time to time for almost 35 years... i was 11 when i heard it on my first radio, but never caught thier name ...thanks now im satisfied after all these years... love it and sharing it to my facebook

  • I hear this & I'm at the beach watching the sunset with the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen, Deborah Gartlett. Thanks for taking me back there.

  • music at its sweetest!

  • Now that's a amazing song. Almost brings a tear to the eye!

  • Australian 45 print at 1:34.

  • @christinedhamilton. I read Eddie Reeves story about the song, how all the contents in the song meant something to you two. The sun comes up across the city...how you two were married at the beach house at 6am...Great story, and I always loved this song. Guess ol' Mac Davis missed out.

  • This is a fantastic song, and I think it was their only hit.

  • ty sooooooooo muchhhhhhhhhhhh

  • How the heck do you pronounce Cymarron?

  • Reminds me of my girlfriend in jr high

  • Hit the charts June 12,1971 and made it to #17 in the US

  • Summer of '71. Left LA and moved to Boston. God, those were some good times!!

  • @smokiebird06

    They sure were Smokie!

  • It is so laid back.. I just love it.

  • such a great song love it!

  • Great vid montage too!

  • Very sweet, upbeat, pretty little song.

  • Sweet, sweet, heartfelt music. I liked it the first time I heard it years ago.

  • Dude with the white shoes is my brother.

  • @dirtroad25 Really.. that is fantastic.. you have to be so proud of your brother.

  • This is such a beautiful song!

  • You punks need to show some respect for your elders!

    That's your whole fucking problem!

  • BUMP (1 year ago) akytilop: Who were Tony and Mario? christine d hamilton:

I'm not sure if I responded to this. Nonetheless, Tony & Mario owned a huge radio/record industry restaurant in Hollywood.

  • BUMP (1 year ago -- by christine d hamilton) This is terrific. The song was written for me and my, then, husband as a wedding gift by Alex Harvey & Eddie Reeves. Our day was very special. Although we are no longer married, we are still friends. Still love the lyrics and everyhing about this song. P.S. We were in the radio/record business. So cool.

  • @Gravida12 , this is total lies and deceit. I guess you get off making fools of the unsuspecting public. Anyone who was truthful would include their real names. "PS: we were in the radio/record business." For kicks, exactly which was it? I've done enough research to know that Harvey and Reeves have no idea what you are talking about. Bullshitters. The truth is you have no self esteem and hope to get some by fakery. Maybe you should be in politics.

  • Hmm...chuy35, the main thing that stands out in your post is the anger. That's not very convincing. One never knows about authenticity on the web, but I thought these posts sounded credible--not a bragging tone, lots of background information. If you have "done research" that shows these are fake, I'd be very interested in your evidence. If you can make a credible case, I'd be glad to cancel these two "bump" posts. Otherwise, I'll leave them up for others to consider, evaluate, and enjoy.

  • Gravida, Frustrated, is what it is. The woman may be "the" Chris. But she never mentioned her husband by name, Bob, or the restaurant by name, a famous Italian restaurant, Martoni's. Curious. Reeves, or someone, posed the facts on the web at about the time she did, also curious, but possible. It is a good story. Maybe you should contact the person before re-posting. Just a thought. In the long run, it doesn't matter. It's still a wonderful song. Chinita

  • @chuy35medina Send me your email address and I'll send you the complete story about my song "Rings" that I wrote with Alex Harvey. Eddie Reeves

  • By far, I like Cymarron's version of this song the best. Lobo's version doesn't do it for me.

  • @monkeyblaze I like this version a lot, but Tompall and the Glaser Brothers's version is my fave. Was #7 on the country charts the same year as this one. Check it out for a different take.

Thanks for posting by the way. Love this tune.

  • @monkeyblaze .Ditto! The Cymarron version before even this one was even cool with less instrumentation...

  • What a gem.

  • "I've been feeling down just talkin' to Tony and Mario."

  • SUCH a gorgeous song.

  • Tompall and the Glaser Bros sings this song very well. You should check it out!!

  • dennis, I checked it out, at least, the first few lines. Sounds as if he is singing from cue cards. I predict it will never be a top 25, in this country. Cymarron is the genuine article. Thanks to radiovixen and deafsubtitles for posting it. saludos, joe

  • LOL! I hear ya, two different moods for sure. I was born in the '65 so I was but 9 or so when the Lobo version was on the radio. I didn't know that it was released earlier by someone else (Cymarron) until a couple of years ago when I to XM radio and they were playing on the 70s channel. I have spent a lot of time putting an oldies collection together and when I play it at parties they are always a hit. Take care.

  • Yep that's it I just checked it out. "come on in, I got the Allman Brothers on the stereo". I like your pun...doesn't ring a bell I do like the Lobo version better but they are both good.

  • Allman Brothers

  • I love this song, I had asked around forever who sang it and someone said LOBO then I heard it on xm radio and had Cymarron, Its great !!!!!!!!!!

  • Lobo did do it a couple of years later, both versions are good.

  • Thanks for the memories!!!! I've missed hearing this tune all these years!

  • Tuneeeeeeee Vixen! wtg. My computer wakes me up everday. At 7:30am my Realplayer launches and this very tune wakes me up leaving me in a great mood for the rest of the day.

  • Man what a great song. Bought the 45 when it came out and was able to download it from Limewire. Still makes me smile when I play it!!

  • I'd like to retract the comment below, after listening to this version a few more times it's definitely much better than I thought at first, in fact it's really good.

  • actually I have this lp this song came from and its quite good, nothing wrong with 1970's pop music sure beats alot of the music out today,

  • I love the music of the 70's, especially the early 70's

  • far out man, I really dig this man, I mean like this is totally groovy man, outasite baby, its my bag dude, I can really get it on in this scene. These cats are just too way out man

  • I was driving cross country from LA to Boston when this song came on the radio. I was singing along so happily that I lost control of the car and ran over 2 hippie hitchhikers. I've often wondered if their families missed them. Come to think of it, I remember singing along to the rest of the song!! What the hell. Why not?

  • I was one month away from finishing my 4-year hitch in the US Navy, stationed in Key West, Florida, when this song was on the charts. I think it was on the juke box in every barl on Duval Street. To me, it was a good easy listening song.

  • when you were an -e4 but wanted to be an e5,

  • I remember this song from the last few times I was ever genuinely happy

  • Thanks so much for bringing back a truly great song. Believe or not I still have the 45 single. I too wih I-Tunes would bring it onboard

  • Thanks for posting this song!

I remembered it on the radio, but

didn't realized the title of the song

    was "Rings" - hehe. :-D

  • Simple.., elouquent song, about an ordinary relationship, an ordinary courtship, and an ordinary marriage, like most of us all will eventually have... Absolutely beautiful.

  • I don't ordinarily enjoy this type of music., but I actually like this one, actually. It is indead beautiful.

    5*****.

  • Gotta find this song to download! Anyone know where it's available? Napster doesn't have it....

  • tip e two and Cherokee too, Amazon has the cd, cheap enough, or I have the wma.

  • Thanks 2dodaz. I ordered it from amazon a couple of weeks ago. You're right - they had it cheap. Thanks!

  • Great tune, really brings back the memories. Thanks for posting!!

  • Iam 56 and remeber this exact version believe it or not playing on a juke box in a bowling alley

  • I'll be 57 in exactly one month. This is one of my favorite early 1970s song. But please pull James Taylor off the stereo and put on Neil Diamond instead! Maybe his song "Glory Road", which was recorded by group member Richard Mainegra as a solo artist. But not Neil's rendition of "Up on the Roof"! I'll take James Taylor's over his, and the Drifters' over either of them!

  • I love this song. thanks for posting it.

  • I'm 54, had this original on 45. Still have it.

  • Any idea of how I can find it to download it on my ipod? Great tune!

  • Alice 3161, I have it, mp3 or wma, I believe. let me know.

  • I am 53 yr old.This is the version I remember.

  • The 2 Richards in this group later joined up with Jimmy Griffin of Bread fame, and formed the country group The Remingtons. I saw them at Taste of Cincinnati & again on The General Jackson showboat down in Nashville. Miss them, but wish them all well. Thx for posting!

  • Thank you...this may be the most romantic song ever. I was in high school when it came out. Happy to find it here.

  • Heard this song on an oldies station and realized I have not heard this song in FOREVER!! It's just one of those "one hit wonders" that doesn't get played enough. Love it!!!!

  • I agree, heard it the other day on satelite radio and brought me back to when I was 16!It is never played?,but a good lil song!

  • Hey genius, this is the version from 1971. Lobo did it, but not 'til a little later.

  • This is not the version I recall on the radio in 1971, this version sucks, was this a country version and somebody else had a different one on the rock stations?

  • still a good song, perhaps a stupid question cymarron with some bellamy brothers

  • Hey Uncle Ricky, Still one of my favorites hearing you, Sherril & Richard again takes me back to Anaheim & Memphis. You guys were great together, but you are a star all alone in my sky. Mama was so happy everytime she hear you singing this song.... Love you, R

  • im 59, a long distance truck driver, I havent heard this song since 1973, an when i heard this song again, the other day, I had to pull over,I cried my eyes out, called my wife "Amber" , it was our song that put us together, god....I love my wife "Amber", thanks CYMARRON !!!!!

  • how incredibly sweet.

  • Brings back the memories!

  • i really love this one hit wonder if any of u all listend to 107.9 it moved to b104.3 it comes in through ridgewood so any of u ridgewood peeps are alsome

  • Mellow and feel good sound.

  • I have this on a Time/Life "Sounds Of The 70's: AM Top Twenty" cassette.

  • Crud

  • Do you have the song "Like Children"? It was the flip side of the single Rings, or at least of one release. I've never heard it again since I lost the 45 decades ago (I can still play most of the guitar chords, though...)

BTW this is a mindblowing song to play a cover of, if you're a hitchhiking hippie... it's just NOT what people expect to hear. Good for getting people to give money who ordinarily wouldn't give money to hippie street musicians ~~ \ 8>)

  • Very pretty..don't recall...but I like it.

    Nice post..radiovixen76

    thanks rob.. ;)

  • Thank you for posting this song. It's great!

  • Thank you so much for this song, I couldn't remember who sang this version, it took along time trying to find it. This is the best, I love the haromies at the end!!! You're the best.

  • Great song! Memories , oh the Memories, WLS, WCFL Chicago AM Radio, Raspberries, Badfinger, Do do do lookin out my back door....... Thanks

  • don't forget to see/listen to the LOBO version here as well

This is the one i remember though......love lobo.missed his version...did it chart?

  • Where has the Music gone? My God how fortunate many of us were to come up through the 70'S. A decade of talent in both quality and quantity that sadly will probably never be repeated. I know you shouldn't live your life looking back, but I can't help it. I'd go back in a nano second. Wonderful, Wonderful years. I am so Blessed and Thankful!

  • @kayakndave I agree with everything you said.

  • Thanks! I have been looking for this song forever, but I was always spelling Cimarron the correct way. I was 15 that year and I had high hopes that someone would ever love me that much.

  • Gosh, what a great feel good song! Reminds me of growing up in the 70's wondering what it would be like to have MY first girlfriend...also like the James Taylor reference since I grew up in NC.

  • met two of these guys during my radioi days, when they teamed with a fellow from BREAD and had a minor hit on Country radio as the trio THE REMINGTONS.

  • I always thought that this song sounded like Kenny Rogers. Anyone else out there think so? One of those tunes you don't hear very often. Fun childhood memories!

  • This is terrific. The song was written for me and my, then, husband as a wedding gift by Alex Harvey & Eddie Reeves. Our day was very special. Although we are no longer married, we are still friends. Still love the lyrics and everyhing about this song. P.S. We were in the radio/record business. So cool.

  • amazing story. thanx

  • Who were Tony and Mario?

  • Happy Holidays...I'm not sure if I responded to this. Nonetheless, Tony & Mario owned a huge radio/record industry restaurant in Hollywood.

  • Wow--thanks for posting Christine. It's great to know a bit of the backstory. Best wishes to you.

  • @christinedhamilton Love your post....thanks for sharing this w/ the rest of us that love this tune.

  • @christinedhamilton. i posted the Alex Harvey recording. check it out.

  • @christinedhamilton

That is so cool!!! Thanks for sharing that!!!

  • one of my faves....reminds me of an old boyfriend

  • Played this at my wedding so u no im an old fart

  • Haven't heard this tune in YEARS! THX for posting.

  • This was not their only chart hit. Their follow-up called "Valerie" hit the Hot 100 as well. Also a nice song. In fact, the LP is quite good.

  • You guys ever notice that most of the really great memory oldies (like this) are never heard on the oldies stations? Just the same tired old songs that we've all heard thousands of times. They just don't get it!

  • You are so right smokiebird06!

  • I had just finished the 6th grade when this song was a hit. I loved it so much that I bought the 45 with babysitting money. The lyrics and arrangement to this song are so beautiful. I had a best friend named Faith who loved the song, too. Sadly, we didn't know it would be her last June on earth. She was stricken with leukemia that month and died the next March 4th at 12. This song make me feel nostalgic for the good times we had.

  • one of my favorite songs of the 70's

  • I first heard this song when my dad obtained a pirated copy of it when we were East Germans. Then I ruined my dad's record by treating it like a frisbee. :P Now after all these years, I finally understand the English lyrics to this song. It's a nice tune.

  • I love this song! I have the Lobo version that I found a few years ago....but it was not right. This is the right version!
