He was calling out 2 CCCP players actually. The one target and one other that was chirping back at him. I mean like him or not..most men wouldn't have the stones to call out any Russian, OR Esposito.. I'm pretty tough for an average guy but f*ck that!
For people who call Phil Esposito a goon, he scored over 700 goals (76 in one season) and fought, on average, maybe once per season. Can you find any video clip of him EVER giving somebody a cheapshot, in this series or otherwise?
Doubtful. Espo was a clean player and a GREAT player. His stats indicate he was a great player, but I think people may not put him in the same category as some other greats like Lafleur, Dionne, Trottier, Bossy, Clarke, Sittler, etc. (I'm leaving out Gretzky, Lemieux and Orr cause they're beyond compare) but they should. Phil was a great hockey player
@ggqbc: If you were alive at the time, you would have known that most people didn't care as much about the '74 Series because it was made up of WHA players, and the WHA was seen as being totally inferior to the NHL. When the WHA blew the series, most people just shrugged their shoulders and said, "What do you expect? It's a WHA team!" No one got really broken up (save for people who lived in WHA cities in Canada), and it wasn't seen as being bad for Canadian hockey or anything.
I AM CANADIAN! it is important to note that the 1974 summit series was won by the CCP/RUSSIA/SOviet union and was won very handedly! the actual tournament rules which was agreed apon by both teams was that the team with the best goal differential at the end of the series was the winner! by midway through it became a laugher and CCP clearly had it won so they began resting their players to make it more interesting. Canadians are vbery strange people so tey told their people back home different
@ggqbc That's not the case at all. The goal differential issue was only to determine the winner if the series was tied after 8 games. As the Soviets held the goal differential advantage going into game 8, Canada needed to win (ie: a tie would result in a Soviet series victory due to goal differential). While the Soviets were missing 3 players in the last 2 games, Canada was without Orr, Howe or Hull all series (arguably the 3 best of the era)
Gotta love old time hockey. Boris never did take up Espos challenge. Boris was a backstabber who would hit and run. Thats why Espo hates the guy to this day.
Paul Henderson!, the man who scored for Canada in the last 30 seconds in the final game against Russia, which lead to the victory for Canada. Resulting in Canada's greatest sports moment of all time!
Esposito was THE main reason Team Canada came back to win. I'm a Bruins fan who saw him play many times for the B's, but without a doubt, Espo's finest hour came while leading Canada back to win in Russia. Le Leader he was!
are u freaking serius? If Canada's known for anything, it's hockey, Were almost always on top and wining gold. Your completly stupid if you hounestly think Canada sucks at hockey. I'd like to see you do anything as close as what Canada's players have done

@ggqbc You are not Canadian or you would know that NHLers were not allowed to play in the 74 series. Nice try though.

You people criticizing Esposito's hockey, are you fucking stupid? Esposito is one of the greatest forwards ever. Check the stats!

@leafyutube Exactly ... you don't score over 700 NHL goals without being one of the best ever!
