Thanks for the great compliment! I really enjoyed making videos for this series and tried really hard to put together a good quality show. Comments like yours make it all the more satisfying. My personal favorite is part 12.
There are several ways to do it. I suggest you ask at your local model train store as I do not have room to describe it all here. They will be, at least in my experience, more than happy to assist you in learning all about this hobby (they want you to spend money in their store!). There are also a lot of good beginner books available too - they have them.
I prefer to uncouple by hand and then edit the film!
I have a old rebuilt brass Alco C-636 and custom painter into a private railroad scheme (ZGM--Zyglot Gold Mines RR) and this railroad hauls coal and aggregrate from upper Michigan Peninsula and Minnesota and southern Manitoba Canada and a seperate line in the Yukon Territories which connects w/ CP in Canada. I will be concentrating on Minnesota and connecting with the BN as far as coal trains is concerned and shipping coal to the Texas ports as well as the Seattle ports.
I have gathered quite a large collection of real trains sounds surfing the internet. When I edit my movie clips, I mute the audio portion and "dub-in" the appropriate sound for the shot.
I wish! I do a lot of editing with real train sounds laid over the top of my clips. It would be a lot easier if the models were doing it but I guess that's half the fun of doing this.
@wesolint All along I was thinking that it was the trains that were doing the sounds and the rumble and stuff and I thought that this must have cost you an absolute fortune. I will say that this is worth watching very well made.
That would be TOO COOL if it were all generated from the models! It took a lot of editing to get it to sound "just right". Thanks for the super compliment!
If you're talking about the cement hopper (the car behind the transformer flat), BN had tons of them, many inherited from the GN, NP, and the CB&Q. I've switched them out at several cement companies in my area. They are one of my favorite car types.
It's amazing how much TAA has progressed, this video really tops it all off, you guys made it as real as it can get and with all the new angles, and you guys a truly experts. Amazing work
This is one of the best videos I have seen on Youtube in a long time. The action, the scenery, the trains - it all fits together. You really have two amazing layouts in your area.
We have a new place to build a layout. The preparation of the room is nearly complete. We should be able to start the benchwork after the first week in December.:)
The common term is FRED. It stands for Flashing Rear End Device. You will find them at your local hobby shop. Be prepared to give up your first born for them.........lol
I miss so very much that cascade green of the big mean bn machine.
