Kino already did a STUNNING job on cleaning up and re mastering the original without the Moroder. I admit that the 80's version is a little bombastic and cheesy, but it's still great fun. Hey, it makes more sense than the Tommy film! ;-) I'm just really happy to see the Moroder version finally re-released because I kept hearing it would never happen.
Les ouvriers et les patrons reconciliés, on a le droit d'y coire, sinon le film de Fritz Lang est d'une beauté exceptionnel et la musique du film autant.
Amazing to see this again after so many years. The end of this film is so emotional. Love the song too, I can't imagine the conclusion of Metropolis without it.
What a voice! I think Benatar can do just about anything. But, singing one spectrum to another....Rock and Roll to Opera. Superb!!!!! Who else can do this???? Challenge me!!
@LydiaDomino - The album version was to attract a younger "pop" version of people. The movie version is classic and beautifully sung. Who can sing rock and this??????
Thanks for posting this. I remember seeing this movie in a theater, and came away mostly remembering this haunting and beautiful melody with killer vocals by Pat Benatar. Too bad this wasn't released as a single in this form, rather than the disco version that doesn't carry the emotion that the film version did.
Thanks for this very nice compilation of scenes from a most beautiful movie. I love this Moroder version of Metropolis - it's a great film and the music adaptation is superb.
This was, first and foremost, an absolutely amazing movie, made long before the age of sound. The music, added almost 60 years later, fits it like a glove and this song sums up the entire story. I've never seen it presented in quite this way, and I thank you ... an excellent job!
@m33watkins Nice to know I'm not the only one that likes the Moroder version - Still hoping we'll eventually see a dvd ! We have the VHS but afraid to play it too much- you know how tapes get if overused :( At this point If I see it on Laserdisc I'd buy a player on ebay just for this movie!
@ginastarke2 Not sure if I like the Moroder version the best. Some of the songs seem to hold up well ("Here's My Heart", "Here She Comes") whereas others don't ("Cage of Freedom"). Still this is one lovely song, which captures the ending so well. I also appreciate what Moroder was trying to accomplish with his restored version. I was only about 7 y/o when his restoration hit the theatres, but when I was in my early 20s a local theatre did a midnight showing of it.
@ginastarke2 Oh, one other thing. I've also got a VHS copy that I've got to play very sparingly. It's a former rental that I bought from Amazon for $30.00. Yes, it was the least expensive quality and yes I really wanted the movie. Here's hoping it comes out on DVD.
I actually loved this so much when I first saw it, I did an audio recording running all 3 scenes audios together as a full song like effect. It looks likes you did the same thing here with the video, wow!!! I was praying someone would do just this and put them together in one string. Nothing she did in the studio does justice as the versions from the movie here. Incredible! Thanks!!!
Thanku for posting this! I have been a huge fan of PaT BenataR since i heard HEARTBREAKER from INTHEHEATOFTHENIGHT album back in my HS days. I went out and brought it right after i heard it on the radio. My nipples get hard when i hear her soprano voice! I found METROPOLIS VHS tape in a flea market years later! Ordered the CD soundrack and was dissapointed cause Pats song is not the same as Movie! CURSES!! Love it! Now i am looking for her version of Roy Oberson CRYING on utube.
so beautiful true maria's theme

@ginastarke2 Hey, I liked "Tommy" (even though it came out before I was born). It's got a w-a-y over-the-top trippy kind of fun to it.

Why are my eyes leaking....?
It is because of the song or the scenes? Whatever the case, they are both wonderful to watch.
