Very surreal and interesting place compared to where I live...more life there at 0430 than rush hour on a Friday afternoon in my town. To many westerners, Yakuza have an image of 'cool' but, let's not forget, they are a criminal organisation with members who would probably not hesitate in 'dispatching' the very person they just exchanged pleasantries with
I have ALWAYS been beyond fascinated by the Yakuza and only DREAM of meeting some member " on good terms of course" ohhhh not to mention how very attractive many of them are heh sorry sorry, but all the more reason I must go to Japan :P
@linettehausiwei I was thinking the same thing, the music is not really needed. But I suppose the uploader wants to give it a spooky vibe because it's Japan and Yakuza.....so scarrry....
the thing is, from what i do know, and thats not many. there are very very strong hirarchies. the guys you see outside are not as many, as working inside their offices.? right?
and also the ones outside are higher ups that do not have to serve in the office anymore.. like washing clothes and cleaning and cooking and towel up the boss after his shower.
its not very forgiving when it comes to mistakes i think?
I'm Asian, but not Japanese...I view these criminals with detachment more than anything, the same way I view the pedophiles I hear of in Japan. The more Japan allows or supports them, well, the more harm they're doing to themselves, tainting and weakening themselves further from within. But at least the other Asian nations aren't being hurt or dirtied, so...
@YourfriendOmenBoy Yakuza are business (albet illegal ) people. No one wants to do business with a raggedy/dirty person. It doesn't look professional :)
@MrKoize True, Yakuza are highclass gangsters that usually work behind the scenes. They seem more like businessman than gangsters. Honestly Cambodians, Viets or Triads seem much more intimidating since they would actually chop you up. Also wtf this neighborhood(Kabukichou) doesn't even look that bad...
I see no yakuza in this clip. They're probably too busy hiding in the dark, selling drugs or child pornography, or busy killing someone who think it's wrong to rape children. Doing anything to make money without doing proper work.
They're called yakuza for a reason. Yakuza means filth. Yakuza are hated by Japanese people, for a reason. I see positive comments about yakuza all over internet. If you're positive about yakuza you're filth yourself.
@Gautigoth Yakuza doesn't mean filth, it translates to the losing hand in cards and labels the yakuza as losers or outcasts. The Yakuza today are able operate today in plain sight for a reason, that reason being that they keep there hands clean and they also claim to be the descendants of the warrior/samurai class of old. The samurai in their day were both feared and respected. The same is true for certain bands of yakuza. Yes some bands are cruel but the same princ. is true for people too.
@Gautigoth yakuza was formed because japanese people shunned them out and saw them as dogs, as a means of survival they banded together mostly composed of what japanese saw as 'outsiders' most often racial segregation, these few 'outsiders' which werent of equal status to that of the average japanese saw this unfair society, which resulted in the yakuza,
but last i heard for the 2011 tsunami, the yakuza helped alot of the citizens that needed help. ironic isnt it?
Every other day my friends and I would come out from Kareoke at 6am, and we would see this scene. I lived in Shinjuku near Kabikucho. Lively place. I miss it.
@Ohninjapleaze1 You are right, but you must have to be the stupidest and most senseless man on the earth to let change the "heartbeat" of Yakuza.. I work here in Kawaguchi city and meet almost every night some of them and I know how they want to be treated and if you treat them the way they want to be, they dont mess with common people often on streets! I`ve seen them giving tips on convenient stores and even they accept it even if the boss is on head.. you have to accept everything they "do"
Can some Japanese people familiar with this update me on this? I read somewhere in an article that the Japanese go soft on these people because these guys were instrumental in coastal protection(from invaders, pirates from China etc) during the feudal period and are hence not taken with very seriously.I am sure the government can defenitely take action if they want.It was very interesting to know. Also the Yakuza are called homeless or something like that. Also wikipedia says they helped @ tohuku..
@axnlogix I see....it maybe has to do with the collections of revenues...yakuza is more like a feudal remenant..besides if the government is so capable why don't they swoop down on the yakuza? I have heard these guys take pride in doing things in the open so to speak so the govt knows their targets. Why don't they take action?I though thats what going soft meant?
@cillantro I think you need to ask yourself, what you think the biggest Mafia/gang is? The police? Crime lords?possibly the government itself? None. Greed and honor is the biggest gang. It unites certain people together whether it be yakuza, police, or crime lords. In order to become balanced they need to coexist. There is never truly just one power that controls a country. Yakuza helps create a peaceful balance, I can try to explain why, but it's something you must experience in your life.
@axnlogix Maybe so but did'nt you tell me about non-yakuza owned businesses despising them? Isn't that like...bad for business and the economy in the long run?
I'm going to Tokyo in about two months from now. I'm searching for an apartment and I found one in kabukicho. It looked nice and all that, but since I heard kabukicho is the "red light district" of Tokyo and a lot of Yakuza, I really am too scared to live there.
What would you guys have done? Is it that dangerous in the evening? Also, if I meet Yakuzas in Tokyo when I live there, is it ok to talk to them because I'm really interested (but careful) when it comes to maffia stuff.
Nearby Korea is free from human trafficking(that is,selling women and children) since the late '80s and also has death penalty for such things. But Japan has yakuza which does such things all the time. So how can we call Japan an "advanced" society?Yakuza sells women, children and drugs and extorts people by threatening them with swords. @xxwzaebd The yakuza is sort of legal in Japan or the Japanese government simply turn its blind eye to it. Many Japanese politicians have connections to the yakuza as they help in their political campaigns. The yakuza claims to be the champion of the poor but in reality they are nothing more than thugs that preyed on the weak. It is not easy to eradicate organized crime that even the US is unable to eradicate the Mafia. Their influence can be reduced but eradicating them is impossible.
Once another natural disaster happens in Japan, it is very likely that the korean army will be dispatched. They will turn the yakuza simply into powder. There is a reason why there is no real organised crime in Korea. Everyone knows what happens when organised criminals fight using guns. It will put Beslan pale into comparison. Japan has no military at all ; selling women and children can be capital offence in Korea, unlike Japan which is very generous for such things.
Even taking leadership in a criminal organisation of any kind is eligible for death penalty in Korea, with minimum sentence of 10 years. In 1991, laws were even strengthened to enable rapid trials. Local mobs exist, but they cannot fight anymore using sticks or knives like in movies. The police always knows beforehand. In Korea, everyone is fingerprinted and CCTV coverage is #1 in the world.
@xxwzaebd It seems that Korean government took strict measures in controlling organized crime. In Korea, it seems that organized crime has less opportunities to thrive. The police must have undercover agents in every organized crime factions. Korea must be successful in controlling organized crime.
True. Korea is the most centralised and micromanaged society in human history. The crimelessness comes at a price: very little individual freedom. One of the reasons for the high emigration rate. I am also moving to a developing country with my entire business since I want general aviation, FPV and target shooting.
Yakuzas should be eradicated by military action. Since they have been using handguns, they would be eradicated and leveled here. It is a pity that Japan has no army. Yakuzas would be handled in an oh-dae-gi fashion here.
@xxwzaebd I agree to an extent. The yakuza were quite instrumental in rebuilding Hiroshima after the war. Of course these are mainly izakaya, clubs, pachinko parlors, etc. but Hiroshima became a bustling city in only a few decades, much of this development was due to the strength of the yakuza and the black market in Hiroshima. The yakuza are still quite strong in Hiroshima because of this
@abigailgeli Originally the yakuza began as an organization for lower ranking members of Japanese social hierarchy to protect themselves from bullying samurais or any other high ranking elites. Nowadays they are an organized crime syndicate with an enterprise on gambling, smuggling, prostituition and other activities. To many youngsters, yakuza members are thought to be cool and being one will make them look cool as well. Life in the yakuza are full of violence and many may ended up dead.
@egeagles14playa Especially is you are the godfather. The godfather has the higher probability of being killed by his own subordinates as they have the ambition of being the new godfather.
The guys in suits are hosts not yakuza, they are working in clubs that cater to girls looking for time with good looking guys. They are snapy dressers and the Japanese have an obsession with old english style - hence the umbrellas.
This. You're in host town; this video is just a loop around koma stadium. Haven't quite hopped over to the seedier areas closer to Shin-Okubo, now have we?
Yakuza are actually very nice and funny people for normal people.. especially for foreigners.. I work in Kawaguchi(the center of Yakuza in Saitama ken).. the biggest population Area of Yakuza! They are very lively people and very different from Normal Japanese.. there is a saying
"Triads (Chinese) go to bar and drink and dosnt pay"
"Yakuza (Japanese) go to bar and drink and pays double"
that's partially true. the older and rich ones are nice as long as you dont fuck with them. but some of the young poor yakuzas are like the worst kind of people in the world. i won't hesitate to call them "roaches". they kidnap women and rape them using meth and force them to prostitute. Saitama yakuzas are relatively nice but Northern Kyushu yakuzas are cold blooded beasts. see how the northern kyushu local governments are corrupted because of these parasites.
@junaidjaatt right im half sicilian and my uncle got conections with the yakuza theyr kind in my eyes and im from the usa and i live in tokyo and i go to school and i went to meetings and stuff like that pretty awesomë! but for some reason they fear my uncle for some reason and i dont know why...
@junaidjaatt yes pay double and afterwards collect 4 times :)
i bet they can be nice. i travel japan next year and want to see nightlife and look out for things there may be commeing xD like yakuza. but i dont expect them to be very nice and unselfish?
They also work in sex trafficking. Being a funny group of guys doesn't give you the right to tell a poor Chinese girl you'll get her a great respectable job and throwing her into street prostitution. They are involved in many other honest markets and can be helpful to communities, but that doesn't justify the bad things they do.
@soccrroxmysox I am a white guy with a half asian wife. We frequently walked through Shinjuku fairly late at night when I was in Japan and I was never approached by them, I noticed many out the front of Strip clubs trying to get local Japanese men in. I reakon they leave whitey alone.
@soccrroxmysox You shouldn't be. As long as you don't stick your nose in their affairs they will leave you alone. I'm saying this as a female. I'd rather walk by THEM than walk by the obnoxious foreign club touters who are always groping and verbally harassing girls who pass by.
i very appologize there was no any person in Lithuania, Vilnius, lakunu 30 in shop evelkas closed andtortured. he lied to me. maybe B.L. is oles nydahls friend.
Great video. The music makes it great. Most of those folks are just guys looking to get laid. Maybe a couple Yaks finishing up a long nights work, but for the most part its stragglers from the clubs. I do like how you can hear the crows that take over the Tokyo streets in the early mornings. Japan is so light in the early morning hours. Well done.
The most dangerous gangs in Kabukicho are Korean, not Japanese. The Yakuza won't mess with you if you don't mess with them. However, find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time and you could find yourself hospitalised -like a friend of mine and his European camera crew, who walked through the place with cameras rolling. Big mistake! They had the shit beaten out of them.
I wonder if the yakuza have any enemies? Not law enforcement agencies, I mean rival gangs, like triads, western gangs, mexican drug cartels, etc. It would seem like yakuza would be crucial allies to any group who would want them on their side. As an enemy, very dangerous. I bet yakuza have ties to ninja clans (LOL). Gettin too anime, hope to visit Japan someday.
since alot of you don't know what a yakuza looks like, they all wear very high value black suits, its like a uniform they wear on Dayle bass and also most of them have yakuza tattoos which cover their whole body from neck-leg and that's one of the reason they wear suits to conceal their tattoos so the police wouldn't notices and its also a culture thing. they control most of japan and also located in other parts of Asia.
are they like how takashi mike depicts them in his movies lol u look at them wrong they stare at u for a minute with no expression on their face no sound then BAM they stick chopsticks in ur eyes and kick u to the ground lol.
I used to hang out in Kabukicho in the 80s, used the fun hotels in the back streets, never had any problems. Sure you'd see punks in the streets with a bit of attitude but it's probably heavily-regulated Yakuza turf - no law but plenty of order.
i love this area. i've been three weeks to japan (travelled from tokyo down to nagasaki) but spent every weekend in shinjuku. it's a fascinating place. your video is very cool and captures the emotion very well.
Way cool music for this vid. eerie......LOL. Anyways, love it. want ot know though: Always hear about the Yakuza, never see them. Are there ways to tell? Wouldn't askthem directly, of course they would deny, and have you killed later. :P And are there rival gangs in Japan, like Triads, and people who are (or claim to be) with western gangs? Love Asian culture
@Drunkenanarch I've met a few yakuza personally, and they aren't afraid of letting you know who they are. (Actually, they were quite polite when I talked with them). Anyway, don't think there's much of a presence of foreign mafia in Japan, though the yaks tally around 90,000 strong, which is quite a lot.
@Drunkenanarch yes, when i was in japan..i saw two yakuzas..well i think, they where dress in white suit and had a cold face. People told me to stay away from them, and i see no one will walk near them
@Drunkenanarch You can't really tell by appearance. They have body tattoos but the clothes cover it up. You can't walk around and pin point a yakuza out unless they're showing off their tattoos or if they're missing a finger. The Yakuza actually work with the triads, and Korean gangs/syndicates in Japan as well as Southwestern U.S. Western gangs are more street oriented. Syndicates like the Yakuza are business oriented. They are business men. They rival with other clans in Japan.
@Drunkenanarch One almost sure sign is full back tattoos or even full sleeves. The full back is meant to represent a turtle shell, a sort of armor for yakuza. There was a long period of time (until the 90s or so) that no one would get a tattoo at all for fear of being labeled yakuza.
if there were yakuza there which i have no doubt there wasnt you wouldnt of even known about it they dont exactly walk around with a big sign sayin YAKUZA!!!!
I love going to Kabukicho. xD The host clubs are a lot of fun. The guys are cool people and have reasons as to why they go into this business. I made a couple of host friends and they are great to hang out with.
look at all the ignorance and how many oblivious people there are in the comments haha . Everyone in this area. Knows that these Yakuza. Now they arent some secretive cult. They are a lot more casual and open than you think. Locals acknowledge this and dont care about em besides the fact they are smart enough to not start any problems for them. SO why dont you retards that say these arent yakuza go research this shit on google if your so skeptical about it.
This is The Yakuza ? Wake Up man. I am half japanese. Have You ever been in real places where Yakuza can be found ? No...I think. These are just some people who can arrange fun for you.invaters to the club standing around every corner in every village all around Japan. Wake up man. Yakuza never show up their face like this. Have you ever seen baskets with white towells early in the morning in front of bars or clubs ? They say : We can offer you also protection and You will pay. Wake up man.

Yakuza are good people. they serve the poor people.
it's member before are 20 ...
that's why they called them YAKUZA ( YA=8 Ku=9 Za=3)
around 200-300 years ago.
they are the people of low to the lowest...
search before you talk and study them...
abigailgeli 11 months ago
@abigailgeli Originally the yakuza began as an organization for lower ranking members of Japanese social hierarchy to protect themselves from bullying samurais or any other high ranking elites. Nowadays they are an organized crime syndicate with an enterprise on gambling, smuggling, prostituition and other activities. To many youngsters, yakuza members are thought to be cool and being one will make them look cool as well. Life in the yakuza are full of violence and many may ended up dead.

"Yakuza (Japanese) go to bar and drink and pays double"
junaidjaatt 1 year ago 53
@junaidjaatt
that's partially true. the older and rich ones are nice as long as you dont fuck with them. but some of the young poor yakuzas are like the worst kind of people in the world. i won't hesitate to call them "roaches". they kidnap women and rape them using meth and force them to prostitute. Saitama yakuzas are relatively nice but Northern Kyushu yakuzas are cold blooded beasts. see how the northern kyushu local governments are corrupted because of these parasites.
ComboJumbomumbo 11 months ago
@junaidjaatt Most Yakuza families are extremely well off and rich so they are more than happy to pay for drinks and have a good time
hidrokiliak 10 months ago

@junaidjaatt right im half sicilian and my uncle got conections with the yakuza theyr kind in my eyes and im from the usa and i live in tokyo and i go to school and i went to meetings and stuff like that pretty awesomë! but for some reason they fear my uncle for some reason and i dont know why...
jassir1316 8 months ago
@junaidjaatt yes pay double and afterwards collect 4 times :)
i bet they can be nice. i travel japan next year and want to see nightlife and look out for things there may be commeing xD like yakuza. but i dont expect them to be very nice and unselfish?
rudeEMOboi 7 months ago
@junaidjaatt
They also work in sex trafficking. Being a funny group of guys doesn't give you the right to tell a poor Chinese girl you'll get her a great respectable job and throwing her into street prostitution. They are involved in many other honest markets and can be helpful to communities, but that doesn't justify the bad things they do.

shit i'd be scared to walk pass them...this saying as a female.
soccrroxmysox 1 year ago
@soccrroxmysox I am a white guy with a half asian wife. We frequently walked through Shinjuku fairly late at night when I was in Japan and I was never approached by them, I noticed many out the front of Strip clubs trying to get local Japanese men in. I reakon they leave whitey alone.
Booya9272 1 year ago
@soccrroxmysox You shouldn't be. As long as you don't stick your nose in their affairs they will leave you alone. I'm saying this as a female. I'd rather walk by THEM than walk by the obnoxious foreign club touters who are always groping and verbally harassing girls who pass by.

I used to hang out in Kabukicho in the 80s, used the fun hotels in the back streets, never had any problems. Sure you'd see punks in the streets with a bit of attitude but it's probably heavily-regulated Yakuza turf - no law but plenty of order.

Wouldn't askthem directly, of course they would deny, and have you killed later. :P And are there rival gangs in Japan, like Triads, and people who are (or claim to be) with western gangs? Love Asian culture

@Drunkenanarch lol people at school keep saying i look like im in the yakuza , maybe i should give them a call lol
BlackRockShooterGuy 1 year ago
@Drunkenanarch I've met a few yakuza personally, and they aren't afraid of letting you know who they are. (Actually, they were quite polite when I talked with them). Anyway, don't think there's much of a presence of foreign mafia in Japan, though the yaks tally around 90,000 strong, which is quite a lot.
jlke45 1 year ago
@Drunkenanarch yes, when i was in japan..i saw two yakuzas..well i think, they where dress in white suit and had a cold face. People told me to stay away from them, and i see no one will walk near them
thebloddyzorrow 1 year ago
@Drunkenanarch You can't really tell by appearance. They have body tattoos but the clothes cover it up. You can't walk around and pin point a yakuza out unless they're showing off their tattoos or if they're missing a finger. The Yakuza actually work with the triads, and Korean gangs/syndicates in Japan as well as Southwestern U.S. Western gangs are more street oriented. Syndicates like the Yakuza are business oriented. They are business men. They rival with other clans in Japan.
shattori1 1 year ago
@Drunkenanarch if I had to guess it would be the guys in black suits and white umbrellas.
ontariobuds 1 year ago
@Drunkenanarch One almost sure sign is full back tattoos or even full sleeves. The full back is meant to represent a turtle shell, a sort of armor for yakuza. There was a long period of time (until the 90s or so) that no one would get a tattoo at all for fear of being labeled yakuza.

look at all the ignorance and how many oblivious people there are in the comments haha .
