What is being used for the nitrogen and potassium I am wanting to try this. any issues with gas build up in the animals. Wanting to use for goats and horses
I posted this video for Marcel b/c I thought it interesting. Compared to other grains, barley seed is cheap and has low nutritional requirements, but Marcel's system is not organic. He does use soluble fertilizers. However, with a bit of research you could probably do this with compost teas. There is another farmer in Ontario who has purchased a feeding system the same in principle but mechanically driven - expensive but much less labour.
@crlndy i wanted to know if its ok to email this gentleman..im in montana,an am currently sprouting fodder for my farm, but have hit some walls.. thank you :)
@gypsymama04 hi, my dad is old school and he doesn't use email, but if you are interested you can inbox message me and i will send you a mailing address or phone number to reach him
Wow, we had this Technology thousands of years ago, and lost them during the 18 and 1900, only to start using them again because of the economy, keverything was organic 300 years ago... haha.. funny but true..
The videos say flooded with nutrients. It does not say where they come from. He could be using compost tea as the nutrients. Without more information I could not say much but nutrients does not need to be in the form of chemicals. Potatoes are a resonable source of potasium. Any green leaf composted would be source of nitrogen.
I'm thinking about buying this system but one thing that seriously gets me concerned is the chemicals put in the irrigation water, I have heard that they can be harmful. Can this be done with just water?
Interesting video , where do i get your book. Is your farm still operational in ottawa i would love to visit it sometime. barley is also great for human consumption the beta-glucans content it contains is being intensely researched for it effect on human health

@molinobeer The water contians nutrients that are found naturally in the soil. It boots the growth aswell as the vitamin-mineral content of the feed.
