I'm immune to unemployment because I make money on the internet. I've been doubling my income every year since 2007. Now I can just laugh at all the unemployed people while I live the good life. Yeah I have a steady stream of passive internet income every day. A long time ago I used to be unemployed a lot but now unemployment is like an alien thing to me. Depending on employers for a job sucks balls. I'm doing so much better by being self employed and taking care of myself.
I imagine it like each nation's economy is like a pond, now interlinked with each other with the new global economy. The US used to be the highest level pond so everything is running out of our pond to the lower levels. The BIG lowest pond of China is gaining all the water. Even India is feeling the hurt now. Eventually, we will all be the same level but at what consequence? Everyone's standard of living will be lowered to that of China instead of everyone else's levels raised to ours.

Companies move overseas not from the tax rates but from a cheaper labor market, cheaper natural resources, and less environmental restrictions - all to simply increase profit.

there are so many pointless jobs out there. think about your job. think in which way it's completely required for your business to function. now think, how would the world continue without you doing your job? it would probably continue perfectly fine. it's a reality that i'm starting to see more and more. when a lot of jobs vanish and we realize, hey, we really didn't need all those other useless positions, things are going to get really bad for the unemployed.

Oh yeah, one more point that I don't believe that this clip makes clear - if you have not filed for unemployment benefits or if they have expired, you aren't part of the reported Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) - you are not "officially" unemployed.
That is the significance of headlines announcing that X number of people will "fall off the unemployment rolls" - to the BLS, they simply disappear...
I apply though the 4the tier came and went while still job hunting. As I've applied, I still get the $25 IIRC that was tacked on as an addition to what one was getting per week. I don't know if that actually lapses before fall 2010

I imagine it like each nation's economy is like a pond, now interlinked with each other with the new global economy. The US used to be the highest level pond so everything is running out of our pond to the lower levels. The BIG lowest pond of China is gaining all the water. Even India is feeling the hurt now. Eventually, we will all be the same level but at what consequence? Everyone's standard of living will be lowered to that of China instead of everyone else's levels raised to ours.

Because of these high taxes, the corporations are moving over seas to cheaper taxes and labor. Look at what the unions have done to GM. The unions have basically destroyed the auto industry and now because of the bailout for GM and because the unions will not play fair, GM is now moving many jobs to Mexico to get away from the high taxes and the unions.

@termase - "the United States has the 2nd highest Corporate tax rates in the world" Where do you get that figure from? Secondly, the rate may be close to 35% but what is actually PAID is closer to 16-19%. And that is from companies that actually pay their taxes. This figure comes from the IRS.
Companies move overseas not from the tax rates but from a cheaper labor market, cheaper natural resources, and less environmental restrictions - all to simply increase profit.

To anyone that might care. I recently got fired back in August. It only took 2 weeks to replace a job I hated with a better one in the same field. Every time I called the company I work for now, I got a we might be looking eventually. How about sending us your resume. Being jobless I finally sent in my resume. Do yourselves a favor and apply to places that are not advertising that they are hiring. I did and am very happy with my new employer.

in 1980, the finance, insurance and insurance sectors made only 8% of all US corporate profits. By the peak of this credit/housing bubble, the figure was 40%. So the 30-year Conservative Revolution was about taking on more debt and pretending to be wealthy.

I lost my job at the end of April and have not gone a day without looking for work.It took two months after I filed for unemployment to get my first payment.
I've worked hard all of my adult life and never asked for any kind of hand-out. I hated the idea of being on unemployment and thought it only last a few weeks at most. well here it is 3 months later, I've applied at several hundred places and have been called in for only 3 interviews. The numbers are much worse than reported-much worse.

I've submitted multiple applications and living off of my life savings atm. I cant collect unemployment cause i needed to be "in the job market" before i could be considered unemployed... and you just put in X amount of apps and not get any replys for 3 months before they give u benefits...

Oh yeah, one more point that I don't believe that this clip makes clear - if you have not filed for unemployment benefits or if they have expired, you aren't part of the reported Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) - you are not "officially" unemployed.
That is the significance of headlines announcing that X number of people will "fall off the unemployment rolls" - to the BLS, they simply disappear...

@mvp019 Don't turn this into an anti-government rant. Don't even attempt to pretend like you understand the complexities of regulating the economy for the entire us population, Especially in a recession such as this. Once you pull a Degree out of your ass, become a politician, and stabilize the economy for the 307 million people living in the US; then you can start complaining about the way the government handles things.

Government couldn't successfully run a hot dog stand. They don't pass economic policies, they pass political policies. Most people are bias towards their own subsidy/government hand out, are you one of them?
Let the person complain. America was founded because people not only complained, but did something about it (the right thing I might add).

@gottafly125 I'm not pretending to understand economics more than anyone else. Hell, half the people here probably know more than I do, but it pisses me off when people try and act smart by over-simplifying a complex issue. A few corrupt politicians and bad political moves doesn't merit a moron, as you would state it; 'pretending' to understand politics and slander the entire US government. I see it as an idiot with far too large an ego for his own good.
