I'm watching her movie doc with Halle Berry now on tv1 right now. She was such a beautiful talented woman. Pure class and elegance. It's so sad she was mistreated and unsung.
Thanks for uploading this. She was great and as I watch this video , I tear up. Its such a shame that women like her, Lena Horne, Theresa Harrisa and many other talented women of color never truly got to show their talent.
OMG Jerry took a chance having this beautiful black lady on national t.v. in the early 1960's she was a beauty ..Hallie did a good job doing her bio..
No weaves, fake boobs, jacked up booties. Dorothy died when I was in grade school. She was my idol. I tried hard to have my hair look like hers in Carmen Jones but of course, I fell short lol. But she is what talent, class and lastly beauty meant. Comparisons to her and anyone who dared to play her in her life story couldn't help but fall short. From all accounts, Dorothy was a smart, sweet, quiet and troubled woman who succumbed to depression. She wasn't a diva just a timeless tragedy!
It's inspiring that even though she was black woman limited to a range of work, she fought against all odds and managed to make a name for herself, proving that it can be possible, and the fact that she is still known today is a great accomplisment, as a young black female myself, she has shown me along with other women such as Della Reese and Fredi Washington that i can do anything.
So elegant and feminine. Very lovely to watch. Truly a beautiful woman. If I had to pick a favorite Dandridge sister it might be Dorothy. But that's because I'm watching her clip right now! LOL!
her voice was too high pitched... not like really high... well i think she'd sound better if she had toned it down a bit... to a Marylene Monroe type of tone
What happened to "Foggy Day in London Town" video? I have searched the internet and asked questions but I have not beeen able to determine the origin of that video. Some said it was taken from "Remains to be Seen" (1953) but that movie is not available on video and I thought she only performed one song "Taking a chance on love" in that forgettable musical comedy. Another video was posted on You Tube which look liked it was from the same movie, but I don't remember the song. I'm baffled???
I fell in love with Dorothy Dandridge when I first saw her in "Bright Road" in 1953. I was 8 years old at the time. She became my secret lover and I have been in love with her ever since. Her lack of starring roles and early death have caused me great pain over the years. I will be 65 in December.
i ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOOVVVVVEEEE THiS WOMAN...SHE'S MY iDOL...TO ALL THE WOMEN WHO TRY TO iMiTATE DOROTHY DANDRiDGE HAS FALLEN SHORT BY MiLES SORRY HALLE AND BEYONCE U JUS CAN'T BET THE CLASSiC...
Ever think, maybe they are not trying to be Miss D. Dandrige but honoring her in all the grace they carry. No one can be anyone but themselves, so, why not be the very best "you" that you can. Instead of hating on Halle, Beyonce, ect... you should thank them for keeping her memory alive and kickin'!!!!
You know, I hate when the only comeback that people can make involves hate. You are correct, Dorothy's beauty cannot be imitated because she is one of a kind.
Dorothy Dandridge is so beautiful. I love her. Im just mad that they dont show alot of her movies on t.v. Every now and then I see something on t.v. about her but not very often.
the only movie that i saw of dorothy dandridge was carmen jones and clips of porgy and bess. i would love to see more of her movies. she was an execellent actress and simply gorgeous!
