I have heard/seen many different versions of this and you guys BY FAR have the best composition and sing it best! Great Job! I love the tempo. Ive heard that arrangement, the only problem is that section is not very appropriate to the songs mood and message; It seems that it was added to entertain an audience with a short attention span. In my opinion, this version is much more pleasing to both the performer and poet.

The story is 2 of Bonny Price Charles men going off to war.

When I did the other version of this song, my director told me to imagine it like your marching to war.

I did this version as well and although I do like it, the other version is much more fun to sing...

That's not entirely true- close but you have a couple things mixed up. Prince Charlie led the Scots into battle, where the British won and took two comrades prisoner. One would be hung and the other let go, but the one who was hung wrote this song for his sweetheart who lived near Loch Lomond. His comrade was to take the high road home (across the countryside) and deliver this as a message of sorts to his beloved Moira. Moira sang it as a tale of his soul's journey back, taking the low road.

This was awsome!!! A small group of guys did this when I was in my high school Madrigal group and I have loved it ever since, although this octet was far more amazing than any I have ever heard.
