  • Never a song deserved more tenderness than this. Never an octet have given it such tenderness than these!

  • I prefer Jonathan Quick's arrangement. It has a a more authentic Scottish flavour to it. You can almost feel your in bonny bonny Scotland. See Pfizerfonics choir on youtube sing the Jonathan Quick arrangement and compare.

  • From what I've gathered, this is a catholic highschool guy group and you, BrooksFabianG are their teacher? Are they still around? You're the kind of teacher that enriches lives forever. Singing is an amazing gift, listening to it, being a part of it, doesn't matter. I hated my mom most days while I was in highschool but she was our Choir teacher and being with her for that hour was the best part of my (and most kids') day. Thank you for what you do. Could you share this groups story, please?

  • @abbsterbean This is actually a group from Goshen College, not a Catholic high school. My understanding is that the poster is one of the men in the center of the group configuration.

  • There needs to be a movie about this school, this teacher and these kids ...

  • What is the lowest note either of your basses can sing?

  • Beautiful: marvelous pace and timing, voices and energies sweetly combining to bring more magic to an already magical standard.

  • My favorite version ever of this song. You can feel the emotion of the men who sang it those many years ago knowing they will never make it home.

  • you guys sound absolutely BEAUTIFUL. :)

    i got shivers.

i wish we had men in our choir who could sing like this.

  • nothing's hotter than guys that can sing this amazing <3

  • I actually had a question for youg uys, i am the leader of the sjhs men's ensemble this year, what type of warm ups did u do to get to tht sound?

  • First to last guy on the right (viewers right) is bouncing like a freaking idiot and cues the suspension resolutions with his hands.

Other than, this is amazing! Very, very beautiful.

  • Lovely. Well done. :]

  • brilliant !!! very harmonical and well sounding :-) Thanks for sharing this!

  • Wow... I'm not entirely sure what I expected, when I hit play, but you lads more than exceeded my expectations.

I was completely blown away. Best rendition I've heard.

  • wow this is mindblowingly pro!

i cant believe i was just about to click back cause i thought it would just be like some average version

then i listened to the first few seconds =) and thought THIS IS AMAZING!!!

  • Nice Fabian ! congratulations your well done job. All sing with heart it's essential. Fiendly, Michel

  • three people missed the like button it seems...

  • I love how the background humming and OOO's never get too loud for the melody to come out!

  • This is superb!!!! great harmonies and perfect pitch thanks for posting this great Octet.MORE To come I hope

  • Wow... beauty mixed with sadness at its absolute finest. You boys are incredible!

  • wow! one of the most perfect octets i've ever heard....soft but balanced..keep it up guys...

  • As good as it gets men. Thanks from Airdrie, Scotland.

  • Super ! A great version ( and good singers too) Congratulations Michel

  • I have heard/seen many different versions of this and you guys BY FAR have the best composition and sing it best! Great Job! I love the tempo. No need for Dai Dai part, your dead on vocals and perfectly chosen arrangement is climax enough. I would absolutely love to hear this professionally recorded. You guys would be great for critical listeners with high end systems!!! Keep it up!

  • YAY! my chior did this exact arrangment! good job, pulled it off well

  • One of the best acapella versions I have heard by a group of guys. I myself am in a group that has sung this song and its beautiful. The harmony of all the parts is remarkable. Great job.

  • by far the most beautiful version of this song i have ever heard! (and im an irish/scottish music nut! =0)

  • Wow. I have your guy's cd and listen to it all the time :) I wish my choir was this good.

  • My choir sings this song at college, but with slight variations in words and sounds. We say tak, not take and me and me true love and heeland hills.

  • Hi! I've listened to this countless times. One of my favorite songs of all. I play it on my tin whistle to the open spaces. Your harmony is so precise and soaring. Are all 8 of you music majors in voice. Where do you live? Do you all tour together? It's like a dream to imagine singing with a group like yours, such mystifying sounds with much emotion. Thanks for sharing!!!

you guys are awesome. wonderful version.

  • Wow!

Amazing..I just happened to find this video, who are these guys??

  • I've heard professional acapella groups before, and I've got to say, this was better than everything. I'm not going to lie, this was the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. Simply amazing. It's music like this that changes the audience and they're never the same again. I'm in awe. This is absolutely gorgeous. You need to make a CD, I know tons of people who would love it. I also like your cover of "Lean On Me". You are all wonderful singers.

  • I have to admit I didn't expect a lot from some guys in jeans and t-shirts standing in an empty hall, but I have to apologise. Fantastic version of the song!

  • Best version of this song i have ever heard.

  • wow, i got chills. this was one of my favorite songs when i was little. this is so beautiful i could cry.

  • The best version I have seen on Youtube!

  • Ohmygosh!!!

So hauntingly beautiful, gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it.

Yet at the same time it is incredibly calming.

  • this is fantastic! great job

  • A-fucking-mazing!

  • gosh you guys are absolutely amazing

  • you guys are killing me!It's so hard to find a group with every single part sounding great!are you like a college group?

  • Comment removed

  • i get the privilege of singing the solo for this in my mens quintet, its truly the greatest song of all time!

  • Wow! And the echo in the room only added to the beauty of these gentlemen in harmony.

    Just beautiful. Beautiful.

My sincerest thanks to you boys for doing such a wonderful job!

  • truly a wonderful song, sung with sincereity and praise for those who have gone before us and a fine tribute to many, praise be to all of ye!

  • Beautiful!

  • Nice live room. I remember singing this arrangement before. So hard to keep it from dragging. But good job though. Very nice blend.

  • WOW! You guys sound amazing! Your voices work so well together! Simply amazing ;]

  • You guys are amazing, I seriously need to know where you found this arrangement of Loch Lomond, it's awesome! You guys blend so well, kudos on a spectacular performance. :]

  • Hey guys your stuff is not on amazon. I assume this is a mistake of biblical proportions because it SHOULD BE!! Let us fans know where and how we can get the real thing and support you...financially. Thanks.

  • You guys are good, where are you based?

  • You guys are good, I like the Cantus version better but I like how you guys look like a bunch of well, guys. Where are you guys based? I'm actually auditioning for Cantus which I think is the best mens group there is but you guys and chanticleer are very good as well.

  • That was great. Speechless...

  • very amazing!

  • You guys are AMAZING....!

  • I have alway sworn to Runrig's version of this song, but your version are about a billion time more touching that their... I brought me to tears... I love when a song takes you by the heart! Blessed be boys!

  • Watch out Chanticleer , these guys are good

  • man,I wish there were a cappella groups that I could Join around here :/ It's great music, and there isn't anything that beats singing a song like this with solid parts.

  • this is amazing. one of the purest sounds ive ever heard

  • This sounds awesome but it just misses the amazing Dai Dai part. It's the the climax of the song. You need it.

  • Ive heard that arrangement, the only problem is that section is not very appropriate to the songs mood and message; It seems that it was added to entertain an audience with a short attention span. In my opinion, this version is much more pleasing to both the performer and poet.

  • I understand where your coming from.

I've heard the arrangement sung perfectly....the dai dai's were sung more like a funeral march than anything...it was very powerful.

  • The story is 2 of Bonny Price Charles men going off to war.

When I did the other version of this song, my director told me to imagine it like your marching to war.

I did this version as well and although I do like it, the other version is much more fun to sing...

  • That's not entirely true- close but you have a couple things mixed up. Prince Charlie led the Scots into battle, where the British won and took two comrades prisoner. One would be hung and the other let go, but the one who was hung wrote this song for his sweetheart who lived near Loch Lomond. His comrade was to take the high road home (across the countryside) and deliver this as a message of sorts to his beloved Moira. Moira sang it as a tale of his soul's journey back, taking the low road.

  • this sing is not meant to be a fun and upbeat song.

  • @BrooksFabianG , my choir recently did the Jonathan Quick arrangement (with the "dai dai's'" and I always found that part very unsettling in my mind as apparent to the message of the song as well. So, kudos on being seemingly the only other person who agrees with me.

  • Brothers, I gotta post again. Wow. you all are good. I really would like to try to help you (if you guys are interested) get up to the GR, MI area for a gig/concert up here. I am guessing that the Goshen reference is of Indiana? If so, it isn't too far away.

    Thanks for the YT posts.

  • If ya'll do a gig in MI I will definitely get a group to come and see that!!! Great sound.

  • DO YOU HAVE A CD???????

  • Wow incredible...

  • Where were you singing this? Because you're getting really good sound quality.

Beautiful rendition. Sad and slow, just like it should be. :)

  • This is beautiful. Would make Ralph Vaughan Williams pleased, just what he intended. The spirit in man can produce beauty and love. Thank you for making my night end in such a pleasant way. Keep it up, men!

  • AMAZING!!!

  • i have'nt even heard the entirity of the tune and i can realize i'm hearing a masterpeice thanx lots lad

    Eric McHallad

  • amazing sound. keep up the good work.

  • Excellent

  • Your voices are very pretty. I can't say it sound Celtish. It almost sounds like your singing a hymn, but good nonetheless.

  • Again, gorgeous. Simply lovely, and as one of the other commenters said, "like honey". But, it's almost as if there are no words to describe the feeling one gets listening to this group. So much heart. Thank you.

  • absolutely gorgeous. and the blend is fantastic. smooth as honey

do you guys have a cd?

  • Exquisite

  • I would love to buy a cd of this group. I love mens small groups and this is the sound I love sooo much. Seriously though you all need to get on a tour or something.

  • one of my favorite songs ever. fantastic.

  • Thanks for getting back to me! This is one I will be purchasing right away!

  • Who wrote this particular arrangement and how do I get a copy?

  • Ralph Vaughan William wrote it.

You can get a copy by buying the music online. Just type in 'Loch Lomond by Ralph Vaughan William sheet music' on Google. You should get several websites that you can purchase it.

  • This was awsome!!! A small group of guys did this when I was in my high school Madrigal group and I have loved it ever since, although this octet was far more amazing than any I have ever heard. They really sang into eachother, which made for minimal tuning issues, great balance, and wonderful note sustantion. BRAVO!!!

  • where are these guys from (college?)

  • Goshen college

  • we sang this in choir.

    i love it.

    man these men are amazing.

    beautiful.

  • Goose bumps

  • yea, the solo'ist in the beginning... um... hes my freaking choir teacher BEEZAYS! haha as of 1 week ago. he is superb.

  • He has sweet hair.

  • Lucky D:

  • really beautiful! I'm learning this song currently with my choir. I'm pretty excited about it, it's a great song.

  • This is the best I have heard this song on the internet. If there is a better recording would someone please let me know :)

  • look into the Three Irish Tenors rendition

  • This was very good. There were a few tuning issues but you guys sang beautifully. It is refreshing to hear such a well matched group and your level of performance accross all your songs is consistently high. Keep up the good work.

  • I can only find two flaws in this:

    1. The camcorder wasn't set for proper exposure, and

    2. The camcorder was tilted about 5º clockwise. :-)

    Flaws in the performance? Zero.

  • I concur -- no flaws in the performance. These guys are great!

  • Very nice. That is sung most beautifully. Well done all of you.

  • They're rehearsing. If this were a concert situation, obviously they'd dress up.

  • great job guys

  • Does anyone know where I can get a recording of this? This is the best version of this song I have ever heard.

  • You might check out Chanticleer's "Wondrous Love" CD.

  • will all of you marry me? please?

    that was phenomenal!

  • i seriously hear absolutely nothing wrong with this.

I had professional training for 8 years, was in vocal for 5, and a barbershop for 6,

    this is incredible guys

  • I'd love this tune even more if I could sing this to my boyfriend. Honestly, I am Scottish at heart, but Irish by blood. I understand some of the backstory to this song. Love it, love it, love it.

  • WOW this was awesome! :)

the only criticism that i have is it would've been awesome if you had done the Scottish accent! it would've been amazing!

  • So moving --- please keep up the amazing work!

  • How are you arranged in this recording, in terms of voice parts (from left to right, I mean).

    Thanks:)

  • fellas, that was incredible. You sound like the King's singers!

  • I listen to this everyday when I come home from school. The most moving performance I have ever heard in my life. Thank you, and keep up the good work.

  • Simply gorgeous!

  • One of the best versions I've found on YouTube. Bravo!

  • just needs some bagpipes lol nicely sung though better than the other pish choirs on you tube

  • I wonder how many listeners know the story?

2 men in Newcastle jail, one to be hanged and one set free.

The one to be hanged takes the low road (death) and he rejoices to be in Scotland before his friend and see the places where he courted his love.

    Soldiers!! Shish!!

  • thanks, I love the song but never heard the back-story. That makes it much heavier...what a gorgeous tune...always brings me back to Scotland and the North Sea

  • hahahah google yahoo they know the story you dont have to show me what a cloud looks like _ just tell me i'll understand !!!! If not then thanx you saved them a click - now where was i oh yes back to billy conolly and incontinance knickers or the national anthem is boring now that is fucking funny -search and enjoy the big yin

  • That was freaking awesome!

  • I can picture you lads singing somewhere like the edinburgh millatry tatoo ,singing this ancient scottish folksong against the back drop of edinburugh castle, then a piper joining in that would be nice .Awfy braw.

  • impressive

  • real nice my mens chorus is doing this but its a diffrent arrangement but i love this one its way better then some of the other garbage ive sen on here

  • We're singing this for our Real Men Sing Tour. i'm a baritone and will be trying out for the solo on the bonnie banks of loch lomond.

  • I remember when you guys came and sang this in the choir room during Success. I honestly have not been able to get it out of my head since.

    My new favorite song.

  • ten points for gryffindor!

  • Great Job! Haunting melody lead singer. Excellent.
