  • Frank handled this beautifully. It was slightly awkward. But, pulled off well.

  • This gives you cold chills. They started out together and got so famous. I was glad to see the reunion, however brief.

  • Hey everyone should read Jerry Lewis' book "Dean and Me" it broke my heart and made me fall in love with these two men. <3 live forever true friendship

  • Actually this was on September 5, 1976.

  • Great Act. Always loved Dean, Jerry and Frankie too. Not forgetting Sammy. That said, No embalming needed with Dean Martin, he was pickled well before he died.

  • love you Dino, wait for me in the heaven!!!

  • KLEENEX ALERT OMG PRICELESS each time i watch this ....makes u think in an offbeat way how can u be angry at some1 who had such an impact for soo long .,how do u let that go?

  • Haha wtf how could 4 people dislike this?

  • That was Entertainment!

  • Dean martin

  • Dean and Frank are way past boozed!!!! Jerry thank God is still normal!

  • @mikjon67

Dean and Frank are 100% sober. Jerry's the one that's probably plastered. He'd hurt his back and had become addicted to Percadin. Frank Sinatra thought that if he saw dean, that it would give him the strength to break his addiction and pleaded with deab to do it, until he finally relented.

  • The coolest cats in town. Royalty right there folks.

  • Holy Crap! Frank Sinatra pulls out a gun watch at 3:14 no way that flies today!

  • they seem to be happy to see each other but jerry seen a little unsure of dean. i dont know it just didnt seem al that happy atmosphere . they havent seen each other after all those years

  • @Kid100JrHolmes @ 1:32 Jerry says to Frank "you son of a bitch!" in fun of course.

  • 2greats rip jery lochhem

  • friendship between men.

  • Frank was the Man ,,,,,,

  • These guys are PLASTERED! I wish I was around that time!

  • I love good comedy and Jerry Lewis makes me laugh.

  • just wonderful

  • funny and real and talented people!!! thanks

  • Funny how Dean acts like Jerry in this video.

  • @StanBennet Probably because he's more than likely rather drunk in this video.

  • Great Quality of film!

  • DUH ITS 1976

  • apple juice... the rat pack thing was brilliant. this really was the first time jerry and dean did this in 20 years - since their mid fifties fallout...

  • class act, nothing compared today!

  • Dean is totally sloshed!

  • @neilsoiland21

If anyone's drunk it's Jerry - not Dean. One of the reasons Frank Sinatra did this is because Jerry lewwis has hurt his back and was addicted to percodine. He thought that if he saw Dean that it might give him the strength to break his addiction. Dean just played the part of a "drunkie" extremely well, that's all.

  • they sure did smoke alot back then

  • Dean and Sammy both died from smoking related illnesses; emphysema and throat cancer. Sammy died at the relatively young age of 64 in 1990.. Dean died at 78 on Christmas Day 1995, but had been declining for some time and never really sang well after the age of 60. Cigarettes are poison and should be banned. In their prime years, Dean and Sammy had amazing voices - cigarettes were a great stage prop but a deadly life choice. I loved both of them as entertainers and mourn their loss still.

  • It would have been perfect and touching if Sinatra just backed off and let them have their moment..Annoying..

  • Couldn't disagree more about the "standard" of entertainment of this clip. Dean is just a disrespectful drunk on it this clip the entire time. Slurs words, can't read a song on the tele that he should know, tripping, forgetting words, mumbling. Look through your misplaced awe. The emporor here has no clothes.

  • Great, great stuff. I could watch the entire 1977 show.

  • This is a true classic moment not only on television - but in the entertainment world.

  • Great classic clip. Will never get over what could have caused the PR blunder of this years Telethon. There could have been a sentimental transition away from Jerry if there had to be a hard exit... MDA blew a great PR opportunity in my opinion...

  • I know that Jerry Lewis could be a loose canon but the telethon will never be the same without him. It will be interesting to hear what he has to say in his interview a day or so after the telethon.

  • This clip is just TOO COOL.

  • Hey MDA---You sure missed the bus by canning Jerry with what?--a 2 paragraph statement? After all the years he poured himself into this campaign and you just can him? Wow. Such appreciation. Then, a watered down 6 hour telethon. LOL. Don't count on any donations from this guy. I won't even watch. You should have given Jerry a grand send off for all his years of being Chairman. You should have had several top acts to toast him. But no. Screw you very much, Jerry. Now get outta here.

  • @tma291 "He couldn't put out the cigarette before coming onstage? " Well, see this was a time when people were free to smoke if it pleased them without busybodies and scolds butting in with their lecturing and whining.

  • Frank to Jerry after he kissed him: You do that one more time and we'll buy the furniture.

  • that's old school baby. Nothing compares!!!

  • You can tell Dean hated being up their and wasn't too fond of seeing Jerry again

  • And they say cigs effect your singing voice :p yeah righttt

  • genial ´´como retroceder el tiempo amigos que trió .

  • who were all the performers included in this telethon?

  • Good joke dean

  • Dean still looked great.

  • dean's not drunk is he? is it just part of the act?

  • @zeldagirly22 that was a common act of his.

  • @zeldagirly22 Yes, it was just an act.

  • Who cares about the cigarette! Besides Jerry lit up too! Enjoy it for what it is and the time it was. Don't be so critical. It was thirty years ago, you want to write a letter to complain. Such a great piece.

  • @1973cessnaflyer Yes I totally agree with you! It's a classic..and very enjoyable to watch these amazing entertainers!

  • this is from 76, not 77

  • So wonderful to watch these guys...REAL entertainers!! They were the best..Just love them.

  • @jheathish The look on Jerry's face says that he wasn't expecting to see Dean Martin.

  • Classic

  • Jerry Lewis was in a "drug fog" during this event because he was hooked on Percodan after a fall causing a skull fracture. He actually had to watch this on video after because he didn't even recall it ever happening. A little useless fact for you all :)

  • hay wait a minute, didnt jerry had another skit in 1964 or 65 with dino and frank on mda and jerry saying well here i go again?

  • " how's that for a dollar!"

  • God bless Jerry for the great work he has done.

  • Guys, these three show that it IS possible to be straight as an arrow and yet show affection for your friends beyond fist bumps and fake hugs.

  • @indyracingnut Anyone that doesn't allow themselves to be influenced by religion or peer pressure knows this!

  • @loveunderlaw Nah it has nothing to do with either of those things...these are three men who truly loved each other & made it very evident during this reunion between two old friends.

  • @indyracingnut Of COURSE it does, religion breeds hate. Specifically Islam, Christianity, & Judaism. They are all built on intolerance, & closed-minded ways of "thought".

  • Dean Martin totally wasted drunk, anyway, three huge legends none to been seen in these days, first time i watch this clip, it`s awesome.

  • @ClioSportRS Actually it's part of his schtick, it's a well known fact that he acted this way, & kept Apple juice in his Shot Glass in place of Whiskey. It was all to boost ratings you know!

  • @ClioSportRS The drunk thing was an act.

  • Just think what MDA could have done with a show featuring Jerry's final MDA telethon, replaying old videos for many hours over Memorial Day Sunday and Monday. But no. You fired Jerry, and the telethon will only be on for 6 hours on Sunday night.

How in the stars will you raise $58+ million on a Sunday night, with so many people out of town for the weekend? Didn't most money come in Monday afternoons? What about the firefighter boot drive? Simply idiotic, guys!

  • @bobjfs They're finished, I bet they won't get the same volume of donations either!

  • @loveunderlaw I couldn't agree with you more. It's like the "New Coke" thing. They had the most successful soft drink ever conceived, so what did they do? They changed the formula. Sales died. They brought it back as "Classic."

MDA had the most successful telethon known to mankind. So what did they do? They fired the man who made it a success and changed the formula: ie., they changed the formula.

How can people make such bizarre decisions!

  • @bobjfs You have to know by now that the corporate, and politicial "leaders" in our country don't have a clue about the common person. It's so stupid in my opinion how these wealthy fools at the top of the food chain wreck everything they touch. I know, Coke was ruined, MTV was ruined, Wendy's etc...

It sucks, but they don't get it, because they're not one of us. I just feel bad for Jerry Lewis being dumped like that, he made the MDA telethon what it is today! The bastards...

  • @bobjfs The hosts are air head models who try to act and host. Wow, what a drop in talent.

  • Holy Crap! Martin is faced! Jerry Lewis: The only guy who could call Sinatra a S.O.B. on live TV and live to tell about it...

  • @exposurejd No, he was playing his character. Look into his eyes. Clear as a bell.

  • such a pair... to bad they didnt do this before they hated each other

  • Martin is clearly drunk, smoking a cigarette and Jerry Lewis says "it should have been the Jew to do it" - THOSE were the days!

  • Saw the clip live when I was a kid. Just reminds me that it is time to donate once again. Don't forget MDA on Labor Day.

  • Very cool, I love watching historic moments like this. Three absolute giants on stage!

  • Was dean Drinking that night ?

  • Jerry did hate this, watch how he folds his arms every time Frank steps away and there is no barrier between him and Dean. Also how he keeps looking at the floor. Dean was truly one of the All time Greats. Jerry, not so much.

  • A thousand dollars from the Stardust hotel in vegas. how considerate.

  • folks at mda it was 1976 is when jerry and dean reunite

  • Lewis hated every moment of this.

  • omg i'm gonna cry, this is so sweet, cant believe it has already been 16 yrs that Dean Martin has gone, RIP Dean. i still love Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin movies today

  • Dean & Me: A Love Story written by Jerry Lewis pretty much explains their relationship including their eventual feuding and unfortunate break-up in 1956. It was a needed evolution for both of them but too bad they couldn't keep some association over the years. Lewis explains they did to some extent after this telethon appearance.

  • Take a long look people - this is real entertainment.

  • @herefordmsv

It would have been if Dean Martin hadn't been half in the bag. I did not find this entertaining or funny at all.

If you're going to sing, sing. If you're going to do stand-up, well do that.

No, not funny at all. I'd say more like PITIFUL.

  • @Rich8951 No, that was part of Dean and Frank's act. Maybe you should do a little research before you rip on it, or just read some of the many comments posted here. Dean was the exact opposite of his stage persona, he was a true family man, he didn't even drink. He played comic foil for Frank and Sammy in the rat pack and it was wonderfully entertaining. And Frank knew he was an icon, he was a perfectionist and would never have allowed Dean to really gone on TV sloshed.

  • also... In 1987, after Dean lost his son, Frank asked him and Sammy to go the road to get Dean's spirits up. But Dean just couldnt keep doing his devil-may-care playboy act because his heart was no longer in it and he retired from the tour. A great disappointment to Frank. But the secret was out...that it always was an act.

  • @Rich8951 Dean had more class "drunk" than you ever will "sober". PITIFUL? Seriously? Class, style, character and two of the best singing voices of the 20th century, too much for you?

  • @herefordmsv Real entertainment long gone....

  • Please, could somebody explain me if JL and DM had a fight? I love their films (with eatch other)

  • @drmms Jerry said that there were many incidents between them both. Some of it was frustration on account of them wanting to do things alone and also, their frustration stemmed from pain because as their relationship thinned out, they were both wise enough to know that it could no longer continue. It hurt them both, really. Dean was just better at hiding it. Jerry advised Dean to not let their fans see them go through the ropes which was smart. And yet it did hurt them to say good-bye </3

  • can you believe that the telethon is only gonna be 6 hrs this year

  • In the 60s and 70s the MDA Telethon was an event I waited for all year. Thank you for posting this, it brings back great memories. My brothers, sisters and I would try to stay up all night with Jerry. Now no major network carries this. Jerry Lewis, Bob Hope, and Danny Thomas really gave a part of them selfs, back to the public, in a way that seems to be lost today.

  • OMG they are totally drunk!!! Hilarious. Ya know I never noticed this when I was a little kid. :)

  • im crying, this is so sweet!!

  • Awww I love this !! It would have been the best if Dean and Jerry sang a song from one of their movies but this was still a beautiful appearance by them both. Absolute magic. RIP Dean ♥ Jerry, I love you!

  • 4.10 its magic :)

  • Class, style and bona fide talent.

    Golden Age.

  • What happened back then between Dean and Jerry? Anybody know? Very interested to know!

  • LOLLLL, "you do that one more time, we're gonna buy the furniture."

  • Ah, the good ol' days! You could smoke on air!

  • If it weren't for Frank, this moment wouldn't even exist. Can you imagine? :\

These kids right here... these are my boys.

  • hi oldstuff ,dean was the( in my also humble opinion) the finest crooner ever. but sammy davis junior had it all as an all rounder. watch paul anka tribute at montreal to sammy just fantastic. cheers

  • I'm glad they made up in Dean's later years. They were a superb double-act and Dean Martin, in my very humble opinion, was the greatest all-rounder out there.

  • this was entertainment when their wasn't 10,000 channels on t.v

  • it's like they picked up right where they left off. Wonderful!

  • I think Dino is drunk.

  • Has anyone besides me noticed how most entertainers today are not held to the same standards as before? Three legends on stage there and Lady Gaga to replace them. God help us.

  • @mozartgenetics Lady GaGa is a classically trained musician, you may not like her image due to your own closed-mindedness, but you shouldn't try to compare different times, & eras. Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, & Jerry Lewis were legends, as is Lady GaGa is now. I like them all, why can't you?!

  • @loveunderlaw Believe it or not I am a fan of Lady Gaga's....but not for her musical attempts. I appreciate her drive and her fearless aproach at living her life. I am aware that Gaga is classically trained and as a pianist myself I am aware she is very good at it. Her musical taste simply does not appeal to me. I recognize her talent, but do not like her choice of musical medium.

  • @mozartgenetics The thing is I don't think she's trying to replace anyone, in the end Lady GaGa is just herself.

  • @loveunderlaw Lady Gaga is a legend? She's crass and way over hyped and overrated by people like you. She will never attain the level of class that these guys had. She drapes meat on herself and you think that's talent. She may be classically trained, but training is going to waste.

  • Comment removed

  • @loveunderlaw "She's NOT trying to be like these guys" That's good because she doesn't have the ability to attain that level of class. Draping meat on yourself is considered art, is it? Sounds more like an attention getting gimmick & that's the mark of a so called "artist" who can't stand on her own merits. If thinking Gaga is an attention seeking hack makes me closed minded, I happily accept that title. The Rat Pack guys are timeless. A couple more years & Gaga will be long forgotten.

  • @loveunderlaw "If she was like Taylor Swift, or Miley Cyrus, then their wouldn't be anything special about her." There's nothing special about her, even with all her little clown outfits & silly behavior. Notice the Rat Pack guys don't need any stupid outfits to perform? That's because they don't need gimmicks to cover for lack of real talent. Their talent alone drew the crowd. On the other hand, Gaga needs all the help she can get. Hence the gimmicks & outrageous behavior.

  • Comment removed

  • @loveunderlaw So how exactly do you come to the conclusion that I'm jealous of that no talent hack? You don't know anything about me, yet you've brilliantly deduced that I'm jealous of Gaga. That's the kind of argument a 4th grader would make. So am I arguing with some little kid? Seeing as how you have no real argument to make, I guess the best you can do is stoop to name calling. Great debating skills you have there, bub. I guess that's the kind of mentality you need to be a Gaga fan.

  • Comment removed

  • @loveunderlaw She a talentless hack. She uses gimmicks because she needs the attention that her "talent" alone won't get her. You just can't get over the fact that not everyone has your taste (or lack thereof), which is another sign of immaturity. You can assume whatever you want about me and I don't really care. Gaga is a useless twit that will be extinct in a couple of years. No one will care about her anymore except sad lonely pathetic little you.

  • Comment removed

  • @loveunderlaw It's funny how you accuse me of projecting, when you're the one making stupid accusations of jealousy & following me to other videos to harass me. If that isn't the very definition of sad & lonely, I don't know what is. As far as my photo, I don't answer to you & I don't care what you think. Gaga sucks. She's a no talent hack who relies on gimmicks and she will be forgotten soon. Go on & keep sucking her cock all you want, loser. Your dumb opinion means nothing to no one.

  • Comment removed

  • @thafoofa ------ignorant on your part.....gaga can sing write play perform........not my cup a tea really ,but your way off and sound foolish ,,,,,its like saying the yankees suck or the beatles sucked......might be your opinion which is fine but a pretty wacked out statement......give the kid a break.......she prob the best of whats out there...atleast she does it organicly...not like many of the artists today who reley on autu tune etc.......

  • @loveunderlaw try to come with some stronger argument besides it sucks to eb you.. That's so unmature....

  • Comment removed

  • @loveunderlaw Okay I don't even want to fight you because we all know what kind of person you are :) good luck in the future buddy :)

  • @jazzmann16 Okay I don't even want to fight you because we all know what kind of person you are :) good luck in the future buddy :)

  • @mozartgenetics stfu with your nostalgic over exaggerated stupid ass nonsense please. thanks.

  • @mozartgenetics Totally agree. I'm too young to have been in their audience when these guys were in their prime, but I can see what a class act they were and can respect their immense talents. Gaga? she's not worthy of holding Dino's ashtray.

  • @mozartgenetics

It was a drastic age shift.

  • @mozartgenetics Amen!

  • There's a real story behind this. Jerry was not too thrilled this happened. It was all Sinatra's idea and there is many a story of how Jerry was very angry about it. Too sad. But I think they calmed down a couple years after this.

  • I love Frank, but he gets in the way here.

  • Might b in d seventies

Dino is holding a cigarette while onstage

  • where's the missing part?

  • he's so drunk haha

  • LOL!!!! "WELL, there we go again!!" ahhaha that was hilarious.

  • Dean and Mr.Lewis were seen together again one more time..after Martin..completed a gig at a Las Vegas nightclub and Jerry brought a cake to help celebrait Dean's 72nd birthday.

  • @TheStanbabe Really? Gosh now I've got to find that one ♥

  • So...how ya been?

  • This is magic ! Jerry and Dean together again . I wish they sang together in this but it was still awesome to see ♥

  • Oh Dean, you are so drunk.

  • Why did they not talk to each other for a long time?

  • i think Dino really was drunk in this clip

  • Jerry said in his book he felt like he was in shock having Dean right there in front of him and the both of them standing on the same side of the stage they always did in their act, stage left I think he said. Dean always had that damn cigarette in his hand he was a class act!

  • Damn that was beautiful!!!

  • It didn't look like Dean wanted to leave....

  • It was a little awkward, but you could still see the genuine love the two of them shared for one another.

  • What a golden moment for sure! Dino surley had few then!? Thanks for posting!

    Peace;]

  • @fillmore593 If Jerry was upset, I certainly can't see it. Besides, if Frank said it's time to bury the hatchet.....you better get over yourselves & bury the damn hatchet. :)

  • what would i do without you ,what would i do boy !!!!!!!!!!!

  • I hate to see singers smoke. Doesn't that affect their voice? Dean always had a cigarettte in his hand. Was he really a heavy drinker or was that his personality? He sounded drunk a lot but maybe that was just his way?

  • @leahblashful That was just Deans shtick. He usually was actually drinking apple juice.

  • @leahblashful The Cigarette was part of the Cool... A lot of singers smoked and it didn't hurt their performance one bit. Of course that was when you were free to smoke or not smoke... and if you wanted to have a cigarette on the air, that was your biz and you didn't have some organization taking that freedom away!. I am not making a statement that I think smoking is just fine, I am just saying people used to have the freedom to decide that for themselves.

  • When Las Vegas truly was "King".

  • Comment removed

  • Read the body language...

  • crying crying crying! I love them so damn much!

  • so your working?? LOL

  • This was the very best live tv loved watching Jerry when he saw Dean,This is when tv was worth watching rv>almost all the greats are gone Miss Frank And Dean And Sammy.

  • The greatest enternainer in history

  • Dean Martin says "...and Thank You!" to the " Chaiman of The Board". Enough said. M & L BELONGED together.

  • 2 greats r.i.p.

  • Jerry at 0:31: "You Son Of A Bitch" /o/

  • I love how they immediately hug each other. They didn't hesitate and they didn't look uncomfortable at all...not until Frank interrupted anyway.

  • Have another drink, "Rat Pack". Vegas is AWESOME, but reality is reality.

  • His family swears Dean wasn't a drinker and it was all a put on. Seems hard to believe. He had the major crows feet which was typical of an alcoholic. I think he was a drunk and the family didn't want him to remembered as such. But it doesn't matter anyway. I think the guy was hilarious and entertaining in a good way. He was a hit in the Cannonball Run movies. LOL.

  • This was parodied on "The Simpsons".

  • @Kartoonkid95 When, and in what episode?

  • @blowtorch12345 In "Black Widower", when Krusty reunited with Sideshow Bob on the "Krusty the Clown Telethon For Motion Sickness".

  • @Kartoonkid95 Thanks!
