What attack stat has your magikarp? It's attack can be 22 - 130, so it has to be EV trained to beat legendaries. It's attack is 4 times as much with the sword dances so 22*4 is still only 88. :P The 200 flail is really nice. If the opponent has maximum defence and HP it won't work I think. But they usually have max speed and (special) attack or are not EV trained at all. Also if they don't use sleep talk it gets much harder. So thinking that smeargle will do spore can get you killed.

Magikarp can also be trains up really strong with stat-boosters (protein, etc), since it can be caught at level1.

Really tedious, but being able to recreate this is so worth it.
