@TRE1275 You know, that's very true. I was thinking the same. As adult now, I can remember back and put these toys into perspective, they did help in kids developing their imaginations, creativity, working that brain, the toys' simplicity, heck even SW movies then, although elaborate but in no way over the top as today, allowed you to fill in the gaps with your imagination.

Kids today, the public, its all imagined for them with elaborate CGI and so on, there's no room for kids to imagine more.

My best friend/neighbor & his 2 brothers always got tons of Star Wars toys for X-mas. After that is was G.I. Joe. (I didn't get a whole lot of "toys" in the 80's, but instead got video games/consoles). So, we'd often play with'em over their house & have big "battles". Sometime GI Joe vs Star Wars. Lotta fights (some physical) broke out over false/un-registered battle "hits". "Dude! I did so shoot/hit your imperial walker with my cobra tank!" Liar! My Tie Fighter got you 1st!, blabla" etc

I always wondered why Kenner released a non-open belly Tauntaun first and only later released the open belly version. It's not as if the belly feature added a lot of production cost to the toy.

From what I heard the solid Tauntaun was released as ESB hit theatres so kids who saw the movie would grab the toys of the characters they saw on screen, kids wanted to recreate the rescue feature seen on screen and was dissapointed by lack of open belly so Kenner retooled the mold and we got open belly rescue

I remember getting Tauntaun a day early for my 6th birthday (open belly rescue). I had been given a dollar amount and a time frame to find some Star Wars toys and pick them out for my gifts. I ended up with Tauntaun and the micro-collection Bespin Gantry with Luke and Vader. To my surprise, I was allowed to take them home that same day. That was rare in my family. Thanks mom!
