It seems that the original are destroyed by the stupid romantiques during the 19th century.

@KarlAmade Yeah, they really were stupid asses weren't they. All they had to do is plug up the top scroll peg holes, replace the fingerboard, bridge and tail piece. No one then would have realized it was ever a 5 string cello. Oh well then.

Oui, beaucoup d'instruments ont été massacrés au XIXème s. Mais certains indices laissent à penser que celui-là a été recoupé dès le 18ème siècle. D'ailleurs, à cette époque, les grands violoncelles ne convenaient déjà plus à l'exécution du répertoire (suites de Bach par exemple)... Il ne reste malheureusement plus un seul violoncelle d'Andrea Amati ou des frères Amati qui n'ai été recoupé :'(
