@sweeenoo kicking is at times necessary to get into waves. of course you probably never ridden a shortboard so you wouldn't know. and yes these guys can't surf
@sweeenoo you obviously don't surf. if you decide to try something new, watch some of the good locals first. Bet they'll be kicking into some waves. Kicking might not provide a ton of propulsion compared to paddling but it also helps you out psychologicaly into getting into those waves when you are sitting a little bit too outside.
