  • lol haow do they glow blue then?

  • @JustinofJAWS003 Genes?

  • I have one of these guys, except of course mine doesnt glow. i never knew the technical term i have always just called him a waterdog. after having him for a year his frilly looking gills started shrinking and then they came off, and i thought he was dying, come to find out he was just morphing into a salamander i guess. i still have him i have had him for about 4 years now. now he prefers to be out of the water quite a bit, but always wet.

  • So bright...can't sleep...oh why won't they let me sleep!?

  • is this blue light or ultra vi?

  • I'd offer myself up for this to be "injected" into me. I'd be the life of a rave party!

  • Is it possible that the pokemon "mudkip" was inspired by the Axolotl by design? I am being serious.

  • @Telemuv highly plausible

  • @Telemuv Most likely.

  • @Telemuv He was

  • i have a baby black one

  • THIS is bad for the axolotl

  • @MrJaseGarden It honistly doesnt harm them in any way, its a little weird but their reasons for using GFP (green florecent protien) is to learn more about the structure and how the body works in certain animals AND to aid cancer reserch in learning how it spreads and multiplies. These perticular Axolotls are used in teaching children about GFP, I assure you these Axolotl's are quite happy living their lives and more than likely unaware of the fact that glowing is not normal for them.

  • U used a black light on them cuz there white they glow in black lights!!

  • i might get one they only cost 14-30 dollars

  • What did you do!?

  • awsome....... i want one

  • they can regenerate almost any part of there body

  • my freind has one of these as a pet he said it can regrow almost any part of its body exept its brain or hart

  • @123naitsabes I have recently just did a report on the axolotl. im pretty sur i read somewhere it can regenerate some parts of the brain

  • were did you get that >=O

  • mudkip used flash

  • He's stressing them with the light! =(

  • they obviously do not like the light

  • werent you happy with your mudkipz beein' normal?

  • @CursedOrb GFP organisms are not experimented to please someone rather it is a useful tool in gene tagging to see its expression

  • poor things, being changed just to please someone, its not like a glowing axolotl has a purpose exsept look pretty.

  • @CursedOrb does it look like its suffering due to the modification? no, theyre still living healthy lives.

  • @DeptulaRacing

Let's make you glow in the dark and let you out on the street ;)

  • Rhymes with "bottle"?

  • This is Intense! Watch my GLow Videos!

  • you do know that the light hurt's their eye's really bad right? so now they problly hate you.

  • whoa it moves fast....

  • D'awww they a cute~

    i want one now.

  • how much would it be to have a male and a female axolotl, and take care of them in a fish tank? would they eat my goldfish or koi?

  • @KipMarsPert101

As far as I know, it's generally not a good idea to mix them with other fish. They will eat smaller fish and larger fish might pick at their gills.

  • @KipMarsPert101 lol they eat fish but not koi or goldfish i dont think they can eat like guppies nd worms i think

  • @Tmoney16743 they eat mealworms

  • they eat mealworms

  • @KipMarsPert101 Depends on where you go to find your animal. But DON'T PUT THEM WITH GOLDFISH!!! The goldfish will EAT the axolotl's gills (Like someone gulping down your lungs!) For a male and a female, give them space (generally it's best to say a foot of length per axie) and some places to hide, lots of oxygen. My three live in a 4ft tank (apart from when it's hellishly hot, then a 40cm tank with HEAPS of aeration. I suggest guppies if you want fish in (Though they WILL be eaten!) Good luck!

  • UV animals! i love UV decoration!

  • haha its a wooper

  • munkip!!!!

  • @PBJwithTat I doubt there are that many blacklights out in the wild...

  • If this was released into the wild, who knows how long it will last...

    <3

  • @felix402 I WANT 2

  • @felix402 I WANT 2

  • i know how they do that biolumenenis

  • ME WANT :D

  • GENETICALLY MODIFIED. There is more here than just the light. As mentioned in the comments, the gene to produce GFP (green florescent protein) is spliced into their genome making them capable of fluorescing when exposed to certain lights. This has been done with other species too including dogs.

  • its just a regular axolotl under a black light.

  • hello, where can i get one? :D

  • @ItsTylerMarie they're a critically endangered species.

if you want one you'll need to seek out extensively, yet oddly enough they are for sale at some irresponsibly capitalist places.

  • @xmasiosare I think the ones you can find for keeping at home are all laboratory bred. The only place these guys occur naturally is in Lake Xochimilco near Mexico City, so I don't see people hauling them all the way from there.

AFAIK, the threats to wild Axolotls come from introduced fish species and pollution, so captive breeding is probably their best bet as a species.

  • i wish i could glow in the dark or under blue light.

  • is this real? is cool

  • yeah

  • Wooper?

  • what is axolotls?

  • The Pokémon Wooper is directly named after the Japanese "Wooper Looper" axolotl marketing phenomenon, and looks much the same as an axolotl.

    Thanks Wikipedia!
