  • I have 250g of this stuff. Will be having fun with it tomorrow

  • isnt this a carcinogen

  • it's the first year that i have chemistry in school and it's the best, sooo fucking cool..

  • haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa esta chidio

  • how does cancer smell like?

  • wow looks really cool

  • that shits a carcinogen

    you shouldve wore gloves

    but cool experiment!!!

  • Ammonium dichromate is a known carcinogen. It is not "slightly toxic". You shouldn't use it.

  • is there any possibility for this to explode.?

  • Enjoy your cancer :3

  • you've unleashed hell O.O

  • The smoke is just nitrogen and water vapor. The ash is trivalent Chromium Oxide. Harmless. The ammonium dichromate is hexavalent chromium. Which is slighly dangerous. Erin Brocovich not withsanding. Ambulance chaser lawyer. Try and remember that Hollywood is make believe.

  • Just breathing the smoke will cause you to take in chromium. NOT GOOD

  • w0w interesting

  • thermite is way more fun, im sure you would be expelled then after you burned a hole through the table top!!! lol

  • Did this lab today. And yes, this chemical is a carcinogenic.

  • did you lose your eye brows?

  • that's cool. can i get the materials from the store?

  • cool

  • Haha that's exactly how volcanoes build themselves! Except the chemical you used is lava in real life :)

  • @2013Neptune its ammonium dichromate(vi) :P

  • Mini Yellowstone

  • Self building volcano

  • now thats what im talking about!

  • Is this stuff hard to get? Dichromates are pretty toxic, I was looking into potassium dichromate as a reducing agent but found out its way too toxic for my likings.

  • oxidizing agent I meant

  • @TheCrackFairy66 why as a reducing agent? dichromate is a very strong oxidizing agent...use ammonium dichromate if you want to reduce....

  • You realize this reaction produced carcinogenic gas?

  • @cdmallory The only gases evolved in this reaction are nitrogen and water vapour.

  • ammonium dichromate costs like 150 euro lol

  • これは何を燃やしているのでしょうか?(。・ω・)日本語わかる方いますか?

  • @hitukihituki omg

  • wow that is cool what is the process called??

  • cooool!

  • Epic

  • 0:33 ITS GOTTA BLOW! ITS GOTTA BLOW!

  • my chem teacher used a strip of magnesium as a wick--it was pretty awesome

  • I believe despite the wealth of knowledge of many chemistry professors they forget the danger of exposing the human body to some of these chemicals just to do demonstrations. Dichromates are very Carcinogenic and is it really worth doing this just to make a point. I have been interested in pyrotechnics for a while but I have come to realize some things are not worth exposing yourself to despite how interesting or exciting the effects of the reactions might be.

  • omg awesome!

  • Hey that was cool.

  • Lol, you shouldn't do this as a personal experiment, it's carcinogenic (not to a high extent, but still). Best to watch safely from youtube.

  • where do you get the powder???

  • @xxxwarningxxx96 chemical suppliers of course research it!

  • Wow thats so cool! It expands!

  • That's amazing!! I wouldn't be near it, though...

  • my teacher did a better one he nearly set fire to the room. with gas like.lol

  • CANCER RISK

Students and teachers should know that ammonium dichromate is highly poisonous and a known cancer causer. It is considered a hazardous waste. See the movie Erin Brockovich, it is similar to the chemicals described in the movie.

Instead, try using potassium permanganate and glycerine, or potassium nitrate, sulfur and charcoal in a 75:10:15 ratio.

  • What is it you use to get that vulcano?

  • You should do the same experiment but then with a block of ammonium dichromate, makes it "spit" out more.

  • So can you do any fun stuff with the chromium sesquioxide or whatever it that's let afterward, or is it just a pile of toxic green crap to get rid of?

  • ccoollll!

  • chemistry at it's best! bad ass!

  • Freaking amazing video.

  • omg! it made a mini volcano.

  • LOL my teacher did this in science today. It was neat! :)

  • haha thats just a little pile of dust...what the!... AAAAHHHR!

  • AWESOME!!

  • cool, the mass increased by 10

  • Volume.

  • @lolb4udie yeah its mass actually decreased but the volume increased by 10 :)

  • how can expleine that reaction?

  • (NH4)2Cr2O7(s) —-> Cr2O3(s) + N2(g) + 4H2O(g)

  • can you repeat that in noob language

  • Ammonium dichromate decomposes to chromium(III)oxide, nitrogen gas und water, which is due to the high temperature also gas. Got it?

  • i want one

  • "Thermal decomposition" is science talk for "loads of fun".

  • i did this for my science fair but then i got expelled :D

  • @stoopidoooo you srsly got expelled D:

  • @rvasquez6089 hells yea the teacher got so pissed

  • @stoopidoooo did you really get expelled?? that's stupid if you did!!

  • @DowntownTB13 ikr? the think its too dangerous

  • @stoopidoooo

Its highly toxic you silly twat. Also a suspected carcinogen.

    You better have been expelled.

  • @sliver321123 its not dangerous will it is but so it anything if you act safe than its safe if you act stupid and careless you die kinda like a belt sander

  • @stoopidoooo lol xD

  • @stoopidoooo Thats so stupid, how can you get expelled for doing such a good job on making a volcano.... teacher must be thick

  • @stoopidoooo really

  • @stoopidoooo why did you get expelled for doing this at your science fair?

  • @rokenbok101 my school is VERY strict about chemicals and they specified this chemical as really dangerous

  • @stoopidoooo lol that sucks

  • @stoopidoooo oh come on they dont let you use acidified dichromate either as oxidising agent in lab?? we use it ALL the time and I once spilled some drops on me by mistake nothings gonna happen, just wash it off immediatly. It certainly carcinogenic/toxic but not gonna give you cancer if you touch it.

It would be really bad if you actually eat it but that would be stupid and insane xD

  • @stoopidoooo too bad dude they probably expelled you because of bringing carcinogens to the science fair lol

  • Poisonous.

  • looks hot

  • haha, deadly

  • wtf

  • the make the snake ash firework with that crap

  • holy fuck dude!!!

    stick ur finger in der!!!

    ouch! thatta hurt

  • where do u get it

  • this stuff is pretty dangerous but the products of the reaction are chromium (III) oxide, which is actually relatively harmless, nitrogen gas and water vapor. so actually, this stuff is relatively safe as long as you don't touch it

  • Wow, this stuff is soooo dangerous, whats the black stuff it produces?

  • The black powder should be Chromium(III) oxide

  • really nice

  • Looks quite well, it would be better with magnesium filings I think, but still 5/5

  • ...it's....BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Tell me, where can I find a pound of ammonium dichromate?

  • Skylighter.

  • would this get hot enough to ignite thermite? what would happen if you mixed em (thermite + ammonium dichromate) together? would it make hella dope volcano or would the thermite just ruin in?

  • i wouldnt purchase this stuff its highly toxic, gets in to you body by just toughing it, its corrosive, and carcinogenic.

  • I already own plenty of it and know quite a bit about it, but I'm tight on aluminum and would just like to know if it works or not..

  • Quite suddenly, I felt a strong power pulling me towards the chemistry shop... =P

  • would not want to clean that shit up

  • it looks like a ralvolcano forming

  • cool - this did my chemistry homework for me lol

  • ammonium dichromate thermally decomposing

    english???

  • Err... I don't see any errors in that.. As said.. Have a nice day :) Dumbass.

  • Awesome

  • funny

  • impresionante

  • Where cinder cones come from.

  • That was quite incredible the way it builds itself back up.
